For a Truly San Franciscan, Castro Neighborhood experience stay at one of the most colorful Houses in the neighborhood, The House of Muse.

Prior Guests of The House include a well known LGBT Film Writer - Director, an esteemed Sister of Perpetual Indulgence, and a World Famous Rock Star (names withheld until we receive permission).

Only 1.5 blocks to the Center of the Castro neighborhood (Castro St. at 18th St.), and only 2 blocks from Dolores Park, its central location makes the House of Muse an ideal location from which to travel to most parts of San Francisco. The MUNI underground access is only 3 blocks away and several bus lines are available within 3 blocks.

If you arrive on Wednesday, then you can walk to the neighborhood farmers market on Noe at Market. Avoid the junk food on the right side of the street, shop on the left, and keep in mind the fish and meat are the highest quality. After shopping be sure to stop in for a drink special at Cafe' Flore before heading back to your classic and historic San Franciscan Flat.

From the back deck enjoy a glass of wine while you watch the fog creep over Twin Peaks and as the ominous Sutro Tower hovers over The City.

Following Dinner at your dining room table with Downtown SF views you can walk down the hill to watch a classic movie at the historic Castro Theatre. If you prefer, neighborhood restaurants and bars with comedy nights and dancing are only 2 blocks away. Or, stay in and enjoy a film on the giant 63” Plasma flat screen display. Sink into the leather couch and enjoy 100’s of DirecTV full package channels or apple TV offerings, connect to Netflix, Hulu and many media channels. We also offer wireless internet, and of course, a Blu-Ray/DVD Region free player. All media devices come with a quality surround sound audio system in the living room.

In addition to your two bedrooms there is a large living room / Dining room, private bathroom, fully equipped kitchen and a shared yoga room / laundry room and a shared back deck.

Caution: Make sure if you book a vacation rental property in San Francisco that they are officially registered with the City of San Francisco as we are. New laws are being enforced, and some vacationers lose their rental upon arrival if the hosts have not done their part to make their business legal with the city.

Your host is a Multimedia Artist and film maker working in the fields of Music Videos, set design and music compositions for Dance and Theatrical works for over 30 years. If he's not writing music in his music studio, then he may be in his green screen and stage production studio filming an independent film or a music video. He's a veritable repository of San Francisco History, so if you've got questions about The City, he's got answers.

Your other host is a busy Chiropractor and Massage Therapist who is happy to answer your questions about health and healing. He is also available for in-house massage therapy, Bowen Therapy and/or Reiki energy work. Adjustments are only available off site at his office. Please make advance arrangements as his schedule often fills up a week or more in advance.

This house is a dream come true. It has excellent views, and it's one of the only homes in the neighborhood with a large back yard set up for entertaining. The backyard has unique starlight LED bistro lighting, oversized tiki torches, moroccan lanterns, sculpted flagstone patios, a hot tub with a blue light, an infrared sauna with medical grade LED Light Therapy, an outdoor shower that shoots color lighted water, a fire table, umbrella covered table and old growth tropical and california native plants. It's a great place to enjoy breakfast, and it looks amazing at night with all the lights and fires going.

It's location is rather central to the overall city, and it's close to the Castro neighborhood bars and restaurants with 2 convenient stores less than 1 block away. It's nice to get what you need with having to get into a car.

The House has some interesting history. It was build in 1895 with the adjoining property which was the stable, now Ruby's Clay Studio. There was a blacksmith who worked out back, and we still find interesting artifacts when digging in the garden from this historic time.

What makes this apartment unique

This is a prime location being situated between the Center of the Castro Neighborhood and Dolores Park. Downtown views and views of Twin Peaks, Sutro Tower, Redrock Terrace, the Pride Flag at Castro and 18th are inspiring to see from a single residence. I enjoyed adding my personal touch by designing a color scheme for the Victorian to meet my taste and style. Many visitors stop and look or take pictures. If you take a break on the front porch with a drink or a smoke, passers by will often stop and chat. I like that about this neighborhood. People are friendly here. By and large it is a safe neighborhood.

Owner's Response: A fully equipped kitchen is important to me as a guest when I travel so I made sure to offer it to my guests. If a guest requests an item like a specific tea or coffee vessel then I purchase that item ASAP for my guest so that they may use it and future guests may benefit as well. We aim to please and respond to guest requests as soon as possible. We love to have guests enjoy the deck with the view of Twin Peaks as the Fog creeps over the hillside ... if you are lucky enough to enjoy one of those rare days or nights when the hillside puts on a show. It's truly a site to behold.

Great Location in the Castro

My Friends and I truly enjoyed our stay. Accessing the property was a breeze with the electronic door locks (no keys to be misplaced). The unit was clean and comfortable; and after a day of exploring; the Huge TV (which I did not think I would use) was a delight.

Absolutely a. Home Away

I am writing my review from a hotel room in Palo Alto wishing I was back at the House of Muse. Starting with David greeting us so enthusiastically at the door to the easy access to the city. The mattress was amazing...actually both mattresses....There are so many amenities at the House of Muse that it would have been very easy to have stayed in the house and the yard for our whole visit....sadly we didn't have time to use the hot tub, Suana, massage services...or the kitchen...but it was nice to know they were there. Great place..wonderful host, lovely location.

Wow, what an amazing place this apartment is. From the period features to the comfortable furniture, this place does not disappoint.

Our concierge David is an awesome guy and was so welcoming and engaging. It felt like a home away from home and we would not hesitate to come back!!

Great, fun neighborhood with great food, fantastic views, and easy access to all of SF. David right there in case help or advice is needed yet leaves you on your own unless called upon. Both Davids were most willing to accommodate us.

Dolores Park is only 2 Blocks away. It has become a super popular hang out almost any day of the week. The Weekends are Packed with beach blankets and smiling faces. Some call it Dolores Beach or if you're up near Dolores and 20th, Gay Beach.
