About Sandra Babuka

For the past 20 years, I have bought, fixed up, lived in, and sold beautiful Victorian homes and 'city' houses so that I can work my way to my perfect home on water. This is the perfect home. As an environmental educator, this home epitomizes what a pure and natural home should be. With the freshwater lake biome, and the peaceful surroundings...it doesn't get any better than this!

Sandra Babuka purchased this chalet in 2011

Why Sandra Babuka chose Northeastern Pennsylvania

Water. Boating and kayaking has always been my thing. I built and raced cedar strip canoes back in the 80's...now I am into the calm and peace of kayaking. It is all good.

What makes this chalet unique

I spotted this home from the other side of the lake. It was sitting there, empty, alone...and it cried out to me and said...'Here I am...I am the home you waited for!' And, it was right. I spent 2 months before buying just sitting on the deck every night to watch the sunsets and the fish jump. To watch the beavers, the heron, the eagles, the hawks, the ducks and the geese. There is so much life here, and so much pleasure, you will not want to leave.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Your house is beautiful, with a nice quiet setting. We stayed with our five kids and had a quiet time..."

"The deck is gorgeous and very roomy. The chairs are so comfy...we loved the outdoor fire grill for making a fire to roast marshmallows, which we did every evening..."

"...the kayaks and canoes were wonderful. We used them a few times every day..."

The property and the area are beautiful. .. but the fracking.

  • 3 of 5

The House is really nice with everything you need, or might have forgotten.

The area is beautiful with rolling hills, farms and trees.

The lake is beautiful with swimming, kayaking and good fishing.

The one negative I should mention is the fracking in the area. Large water, and sand trucks are constantly barreling down the surrounding roads, as they go back and forth 24/7 to the frack well. The frack well is visible, and makes a droning sound non stop. It's really a shame because everything else is great.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review on my home. I am glad you liked the house. I am sorry that this was going on during your stay. The trucks must have been hauling from the quarry nearby to the new drill site about 5 miles away. This is a temporary situation and the trucks will stop when the construction is done. We have no way of knowing when this will happen, but it doesn't last long. I do hope that staying at the lake was enjoyable otherwise. I have lots of boats to keep you busy on the water, and the floating dock is so much fun. It seems unfortunate timing for the stone haulers.

Wonderful house on a beautiful lake!

  • 5 of 5

This was a really great place to stay for the weekend. The house is perfectly thought out and a delight for a renter. The lake is beautiful and the kayaks the house has allows you to really enjoy the lake. We spent the whole day out on the water, which was just how we wanted it. While this house was a bit far from NYC, the value was outstanding and everything really was perfect!

Nice get away, clean with all of the amenities of home

  • 5 of 5

Spent the week there in mid August. Enjoyed kayaking, fishing, reading, biking on some very hilly roads with beautiful farmland vistas. Great having a place that will accept pets, as our small dog will testify to. I'm sure it's also a great place to visit in the winter as well. We hiked at some of the nearby parks, fished at other lakes, and picked blueberries at a local farm A great break from city life!

Beautiful views

  • 4 of 5

We had a nice relaxing week on Butler Lake. The house was comfortable, nice big kitchen and plenty of room to store our food. We enjoyed using the kayaks and canoe numerous times to check out the lake, beaver dam and beaver lodge. It was quite easy getting in and out of the watercraft from the side of the dock.

The only things I was disappointed with were the dirtiness of the refrigerator (and all the food in it when we arrived) and the very dirty microwave. I actually chose not to use the microwave after opening it once.

There were a few spindles missing on the side of the deck. We used one of our own chairs to block the space so our dogs wouldn't think this was a way off the high deck. I would be very concerned about that if I had small children.

Owner's Response: Hello all. I am so glad that these guests had a great time...the refrigerator issue was brought to my attention by my daughter...who cleans alternately with another cleaner. I was sickened when I was told the refrigerator was not cleaned out previous to this guest. As I am usually the one who cleans refrigerators after a guest...I do know how they can get...and it is imperative that the refrigerator be sparkling clean when new guests arrive. I have discussed this with my alternate cleaner...I thank you all for understanding. The same is for the microwave. I have a 3 page list of things to do for my cleaners and, once again, I apologize as all these details are covered in my list of cleaning. My deck has a couple of 1/2 pegs taken out for me to put wood through in the wintertime. It is my way of making life a bit easier for me rather than hauling up the stairs. Yes, that small area can be covered by a chair or something similar so that your animals do not try to go off the deck there. I know you will understand when you see it. I understand the families that travel with their pets...thus the allowance of them at my home. I do need to be sure that they are in their best behavior, no furniture setting, and no doggie do do left on the yard. No one likes to walk or even mow over that. If you go out on the boats, please kennel your dogs so that they do not go crazy in the house trying to get to their beloved owners...again...I understand these pets and their needs. Be sure to be the best pet "parents" that you can be. Thank you so much for that consideration of my home. Welcome to all who wish the wonderful, incredible sunsets, boating, and just relaxing near the water. I wish you all happiness in your vacations.
