This modern year-round retreat is equipped with Smart TVs, cable, Netflix, Wi-Fi, docking stations, as well as linens and any other items you might expect in a well equipped home, including bikes, puzzles and Keurig.

Two of the three bedrooms are outfitted with comfortable queen-size beds, the third is set up as a den with fireplace and reclining sofa (double). The sofa -bed in the living room pulls out into a comfortable place to sleep as well.

A water access easement runs from our door step to the Potomac River bulkhead. The central heat, and central AC are always comfortable. In addition, to the two electric fireplaces there is an outdoor fire pit. All windows are screened and open if you want to feel the breezes off the river and listen to bird song in the spring.

Fishing and Crabbing for our famous Maryland Blue Crabs is a popular activity furthermore, Tall Timbers Private Beach Club is short walk from the cottage. The village of Tall Timbers and the Marina are both an easy walk.

The beaches, docks, lighthouse and bridge at Piney Point and St. George's Island are a short drive. We are happy to assist you in booking fishing charters, or cruise the Potomac with a qualified waterman. Located fifteen miles by car from Historic St. Mary's City (Maryland's Colonial Capitol dating to 1634) we are only two hours from the District of Columbia.

Tall Timbers, the community, is actually a forgotten Maryland treasure where time stands still. It consists of two rows of houses situated between the Potomac River and a dense timbered forest. We are located 3 miles east of the Piney Point/ St. George's Island Bridge off Maryland Route 249 not far from where the Potomac River flows into the Chesapeake Bay.

About Lolly and Lindley

We love the rural rivers, bays, and estuaries and enjoy helping you find the hidden paths around the Historic St. Mary County and the Potomac.

Lolly and Lindley purchased this house in 2003

Why Lolly and Lindley chose Tall Timbers

Tall Timbers is a sleepy waterfront community. It is where people pass slow summer days; and huge Rockfish are caught in the creeks, crabs from docks. There are more places to paddle than you will have time available to visit:

*Historic Old Mill Gift Store,

*Historic St. Mary’s City

*One Room Little red schoolhouse

*Drayden Afro-American school house.

*Piney Point Light House and Museum

*German U-Boat Underwater Park

*The Patuxent River Naval Air Museum (PAX)

*Point Lookout State Park and Civil War Museum

*Sotterley Plantation,

*St. Clement's Island-Potomac River Museum

*Calvert Maritime Museum.

*Anna Marie Gardens and Sculpture Forest.

During the winter the community is magical and can be winter wonderland. Fall colors are magnificent, especially when you realize you are not the one to rake the leaves. Just watch them fall. Be on the look out for deep discounts of midweek - midwinter visits.

What makes this house unique

The National Potomac Heritage Scenic Trail is at our front door, there is a wide variety of wildlife and beautiful vistas of Herring Creek and the Potomac River can be seen along this trail. Experienced paddlers may continue onto the open waters of the Potomac River.

Bird watchers may love in love with the creeks.

Explore the many nearby historic parks such Colonial St. Mary's City, Light Houses at Point Look Out and Piney Point, the Maritime Museums at Soloman's Island and Piney Point. Chose from several wonderful local watering holes with fabulous views and docks.

Toast to First Friday wine tasting at local wineries.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Tall Timbers cottage was not available for the last 5 years as it was rented to a base contractor. Once he left the entire house was gutted and refurnished so we apologize for the older reviews. We spent our first night in the cottage after the construction was finished a couple of weeks agao and it is better than ever. I love the new woodland paths and the enlarged shower. Cell phone service is catching up with the rest of the modern world. Southern Maryland is seeing a few more visitors, and services are becoming even easier to find.

It was just what we were looking for.

The home was nestled in the tall trees yet near the water. The kitchen was well stocked and we fixed several meals there. Our host was very helpful about the area. The house was clean and comfortable.

Great place on the Chesapeake!

  • 5 of 5

Really beautiful and comfortable home between the Potomac and Chesapeake. Very close to a marina where I dropped my kayak and paddled around a calm bay exploring the nooks and crannies for two hours. Loved it!

Owner's Response: Joseph, YeS!!! I agree the kayaking and canoeing around here is spectacular. Most people get to know Tall Timbers during the summer boating activities, and family reunions but this corner of the world is wonderful year around. I love the ice formations on the piers, and the remote snowy vistas. Museums and Art Galleries and Wineries are open all year long.

We stayed here for a long weekend this September. The cottage was clean, charming, and cozy. Lolly was wonderful to work with and checked in on us to make sure everything went smoothly. It was a wonderful location for our long weekend away!

Owner's Response: Kenda, we take your comments seriously and are looking for an additional light to hang over the dinning room table. The shower drained quite well once we moved the clear shower mat back from the drain, it was completely covering the drain opening. Located across the street from the Potomac River with an easement that runs across the street and to the bulkhead that runs along the Rivers Edge we understand is not the same as the much more expensive on the beach rentals, but the woodland home has many wonderful features.. We love to launch the kayaks into the water at the marina and paddle around the Great Blue Herons, the deer, terrapins, otters and crabs. On occasion we enjoy watching the sunset while gathering around the fire pit in the yard. We are proud to offer a wonderful, clean, comfortable home with a water view at affordable prices.

Such a cute house !

  • 4 of 5

We loved this home. The house was perfect for what we needed and had such great touches in every room. So much storage it feels like you can settle in and be at home even away from home. The beds are very firm so if you don't like that bring a mattress topper. Great house and home owners were so nice and helpful.
