Why Robert Cranson chose Atenas
Atenas was described by National Geographic magazine as having 'the best weather in the world'! I have found this to be true. Furthermore, it is a charming, peaceful, lovely town with wonderful people and the cottage site has beautiful, expansive views of the Central Valley and volcanoes. I fell in love with this town the first day I spent there.
What makes this Cottage unique

Fantastic view, all ammeneties are in the Cottage, very helpfull assistance from Manager Magda,
Very good location and value for money.
Thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoyed your stay at Casita Alta Vista, and we hope you will visit us again in the future! Meanwhile we will continue doing our very best to give our guests an exceptional experience of beautiful Costa Rica.
Tremendous View - Great Value
Loved morning coffee watching the sunrise over the mountains and Central Valley. Coffee and Fresh Fruit awaited our arrival at the Casita. Magda, the manager, was very friendly and helpful. Checkin / Checkout were straight forward and easy. Home could use a general refreshing and maintenance. A definite Yes to anyone wanting a “country” experience. Pool was magnificent, refreshing and clean.
The cottage that has it all
After first visiting four different areas in Costa Rica, we stayed almost 3 months in this rural property located in a gated community outside of Atenas. Providing an awesome view of volcanoes and the central valley towns and farmland, coupled with all the modern conveniences, made for a memorable stay.
The well-equipped one bedroom cottage included a comfortable double bed, good kitchen facilities, bathroom with tub & shower, dining area for 4, comfortable seating for reading and relaxing with ceiling and portable fans for those dry season temperatures. A washing machine was located in the attached bodega. We stayed connected with WiFi and enjoyed Netflix.
The walk into Atenas was about 1.25 hours which we did on a weekly basis to stock up on groceries and returned by taxi (very reasonable). We also used public buses to travel to other areas including San Jose. Ideally having a car would be recommended. The road to the property is steep and the winds can be strong at times. However, the location affords those tremendous views! Birds and butterflies abound and the chirping geckos are welcome 'indoor' residents. But, there are other Costa Rican critters and some become familiar so keep the kitchen clean and store your food in the 2 fridges.
Both Robert and Magda were great to deal with and responded quickly to any questions or concerns. Lots of detailed information was provided in advance. This vacation was an extraordinary experience for 2 seniors and we would highly recommend this property.
Thank you, Shirley, for your review. It was a delight to host you and Geoff, and we hope you can visit Casita Alta Vista again in the future. We try to go the "extra mile" for our guests by providing useful information before your stay and good service during your stay. As with you and Geoff, we value many of our guests as friends once we get to know them. That is one of the special benefits of hosting great people!
Wonderful small cabin. Marvelous view!!!
A superb little escape place. Has everything you need to be tucked away in paradise with the most amazing view.
The drive up is not your standard US driveway, it is steep and narrow and rough in places, but you do get used to it. If you don't have a car, you can call a taxi to take you to town. Quite the hike otherwise.
Owner, Robert, is very responsive. You'll be pleased with your choice of this escape it all cabin in Costa Rica.
Thank you for your review, Deborah. It was our pleasure to host you! We do our very best to provide everything for a comfortable, enjoyable stay in the casita, and I agree, the view is spectacular! In fact, you won't find a view like it anywhere else in Atenas. Even though the driveway isn't totally smooth like in the USA, it's pretty good for Costa Rica; all cement, and since there is no cold weather there, you don't have to deal with snow and ice, ever. Every time I have to shovel snow here in the USA in order to drive out, I long for that Costa Rican driveway and the weather that goes with it! Thank you for staying with us, and we would love to host you again in the future.
excellent property, best in the region.
Splendid Cottage with Panoramic view, self contained with ample kitchen utensils and furniture for a comfortable stay, attractive private garden, very well situated near Atenas.
Thank you, Mr. Smit for your review. Magda and I much enjoyed hosting you, and we hope you will visit Casita Alta Vista again in the future. Whenever I stay there, I never tire of the view of the entire Central Valley , ringed by Poas, Barva, Irazu and Turrialba volcanoes on the left and center, and the Pacific Range on the right. We try to keep the casita as completely equipped and comfortable as possible, and we are glad you found that to be true as well. We recently added the custom-made rocking chair with beautiful leather work. I love to sit in that and relax on the porch while taking in the view. On my next stay I hope to add a bird bath to the garden to attract more native birds.
A quiet casita with spectacular views!
This casita is a very lovely getaway! The views from the porch were amazing. The facilities that are offered were adequate. Everything you needed for a fun filled time. I would definitely recommend a car if you want to explore the area. But you do have the option of calling a taxi. They aren't expensive. Magda, the manager, is always around if you need anything. Robert, the owner, is very quick and responsive to any matters that need attention.
Good advice would be to ensure to stop by the local supermarket and buy everything you will need to include spices, garbage bags, and any oils for cooking. Be prepared the electric stove may take awhile to heat up. IMO, the bed was not the most comfortable nor the couch for extended periods of sitting. We didn't sleep on it so can't comment. The place overall is nice but may benefit from a little freshening up. Do not let these few things deter you from staying here, just our observations. Do not be surprised if you see a few ants. This is Costa Rica after all.
