About Bob and Pam Hankins

Little Cabin in the Woods is the result of two couples dreaming of the ideal get-away. Rod and Anita, both educators, and Bob and Pam, a lawyer and an educator, are long-time friends who dreamed of owning a cabin as a home-away-from-home. Now retired, we enjoy traveling, grandchildren, the St. Louis Cardinals, corgis, and spending extended periods of time at the cabin.

Bob and Pam Hankins purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Bob and Pam Hankins chose Jasper

Little Cabin in the Woods was not purchased---it was designed and built by the owners! With the assistance of a Mennonite father-son team, the cabin took form over two years of persistence and hard work. Our 'fingerprints' are all over the cabin. We painted and hung the cabinets, laid the hickory hardwood floor, made and hung the curtains, and decorated.

Little Cabin in the Woods is a labor of love for us. It provides a get-away and a place of solitude that is unmatched in one of the most beautiful best-kept secrets in the US----Newton County, Arkansas.

What makes this cabin unique

We created the ambiances you will enjoy! The cathedral-like windows that stream the outdoors in, the wrap-around deck, the jacuzzi tub, the handcrafted cedar bedstead, the photos, the stain-glass window in the front door are among the unique features of the cabin.

Little Cabin in the Woods is remote enough to give you the feeling of solitude yet close enough to Jasper to allow you to run into the grocery story to pick up that forgotten item.

Beautiful, peaceful cabin in the woods of Jasper

We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, peaceful cabin in Jasper, AR. We floated the Buffalo River and enjoyed a delicious meal at the Low Gap Café.

Great get-away cabin

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is great. Loved all the cedar. Wish there was more wildlife near the cabin. We were spoiled by Frannie's cabin (which is no longer available for rent) where there were deer and turkeys every morning and evening.

Owner's Response: We are glad you thought the cabin was great. We do see deer at times on the west and north side, but when we we built the cabin, we opted to perch it on the mountain with views of the valley from the deck. Thanks for staying with us. Rod and Anita, Bob and Pam

Now this is a CABIN!!!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was a beautiful place to stay and there is nothing" little" about it. We felt like we were the only folks out there and were in the middle of the forest....yet we had everything we needed and more. We spent the days hiking and the cabin was a great place to come home to. It's location was close enough to most hiking areas, that we could hit a couple a day. We stayed on top of the weather by wi-fi at the cabin. Great relaxing stay!!! Owners were great in communications by phone and text, and met all our needs. Would stay again!!!

Awesome cabin with great porch, views, and close to restaurants & retail.

  • 5 of 5

My family loved our time at the Little Cabin in the Woods. Everything about the cabin is perfect. All of the wood decor really sets the mood for relaxing in the woods. The huge porch was another feature that drew me to the property originally, and it did not disappoint. We found ourselves spending most of the time on the porch, just enjoying the sounds of nature and the spectacular view. Another benefit of the property is just how close it was to Jasper. I had visited Ponca before, so I made sure to emphasize to my family that there is basically nothing in the way of restaurants or stores in the area. So I was pleasantly surprised when we made the short drive to Jasper (about 2 miles) and found an amazing restaurant along with a really nice grocery store (as well as a gas station and a few other neat shops for souvenirs). On top of that, the Cliff Side Inn is just a few miles further, which offers good food with an amazing view.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your thoughtful review! We are so pleased that the cabin met your expectations. We too think the wrap-around deck/porch with a view is an amazing feature! The seclusion, yet convenience, was one of the reasons we selected this property on which to build the cabin of our dreams. Thanks for staying with us--please come again! Anita and Rod, Pam and Bob

Little Cabin in the Woods is located within miles of the first designated national river, the Buffalo National River. With multiple 'put-ins,' the river offers leisurely canoeing, off-river exploration of historical sites, hiking, and horse-back riding. The road 'up the mountain' (74 West) is a beautiful scenic drive. Don't miss dining at the Low Gap Cafe for unbelievable cuisine! Highway 7 South also provides a lovely scenic drive. Stop at the Arkansas Grand Canyon for a breath-taking view. While at the Arkansas Grand Canyon, enjoy lunch or dinner at Cliff House Inn.

Be sure to make a visit to the Ponca area part of your trip! Ponca is approximately 12 miles west on Highway 74. (Turn right onto 74) View elk from the comfort of your vehicle. (Elk were re-introduced to Arkansas recently and are thriving. Elk can be viewed by turning left onto Highway 43 and driving a short distance. Additionally, enjoy the historical 100-year-old Boxley Baptist Church which still holds services, the historical farmstead, and the Elk museum in Ponca. Jasper, the county seat for Newton County, has its own delights. The Ozark Cafe is a time-honored tradition that serves down-home cooking to visitors and locals. Antiquing at Emma's Museum of Junk is a treat not to miss. The Chamber of Commerce offers hand-crafted items from local craftsmen as well as information about the area. Want to float the Buffalo? Several concessionaires offer canoe rentals, drop-off and and pick-up services.

Of course, Branson and all its entertainment venues is just one hour away from the cabin.
