About Bob and Pam Hankins

Little Cabin in the Woods is the result of two couples dreaming of the ideal get-away. Rod and Anita, both educators, and Bob and Pam, a lawyer and an educator, are long-time friends who dreamed of owning a cabin as a home-away-from-home. Now retired, we enjoy traveling, grandchildren, the St. Louis Cardinals, corgis, and spending extended periods of time at the cabin.

Bob and Pam Hankins purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Bob and Pam Hankins chose Jasper

Little Cabin in the Woods was not purchased---it was designed and built by the owners! With the assistance of a Mennonite father-son team, the cabin took form over two years of persistence and hard work. Our 'fingerprints' are all over the cabin. We painted and hung the cabinets, laid the hickory hardwood floor, made and hung the curtains, and decorated.

Little Cabin in the Woods is a labor of love for us. It provides a get-away and a place of solitude that is unmatched in one of the most beautiful best-kept secrets in the US----Newton County, Arkansas.

What makes this cabin unique

We created the ambiances you will enjoy! The cathedral-like windows that stream the outdoors in, the wrap-around deck, the jacuzzi tub, the handcrafted cedar bedstead, the photos, the stain-glass window in the front door are among the unique features of the cabin.

Little Cabin in the Woods is remote enough to give you the feeling of solitude yet close enough to Jasper to allow you to run into the grocery story to pick up that forgotten item.

Beautiful, comfy cabin with great views!!

  • 5 of 5

We shared this cabin with our best friends and found it to be all we had hoped for and more!

The location was perfect for knocking around this area we love. The cabin had everything we needed and the fireplace kept us toasty warm after a couple of days of hiking to look at waterfalls. Plenty of room to spread out and enjoy northwest Arkansas. Go for a visit, you will not be disappointed!

Awesome cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful place! You're close to the cafe and Harps grocery store but you feel secluded in the woods. The cabin is super clean and stocked with everything needed to cook meals. Plenty of space for families to stay. Jasper is a small town so Harps and the cafe close at 8 or 9. The drive from Jasper to Ponca is an adventure itself! Add in seeing 100 elk and you have a great weekend.

The Perfect Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

"Little Cabin in the Woods" has endless charm. While our impressions were many, our family couldn't get over the space created in the great room. Rarely do you come across a space that feels cozy with vaulted ceilings. And with the eastern facade of the cabin canvassed with windows, the views of the sunrise over the Ozarks was breathtaking. Nearly all of our time spent in the cabin was in the great room (chatting around the table, cooking, sitting by the fire, playing games). The small mountain town of Jasper is just a 2.5 mile drive and it features one of the better mountain cafe's around "Blue Mountain Cafe."

We were smitten with Little Cabin in the Woods from the beginning, and are already talking about a return trip. Many, many thanks to Bob and Anita for cultivating and maintaining such a warm and inviting space.

Little Cabin in the Woods is located within miles of the first designated national river, the Buffalo National River. With multiple 'put-ins,' the river offers leisurely canoeing, off-river exploration of historical sites, hiking, and horse-back riding. The road 'up the mountain' (74 West) is a beautiful scenic drive. Don't miss dining at the Low Gap Cafe for unbelievable cuisine! Highway 7 South also provides a lovely scenic drive. Stop at the Arkansas Grand Canyon for a breath-taking view. While at the Arkansas Grand Canyon, enjoy lunch or dinner at Cliff House Inn.

Be sure to make a visit to the Ponca area part of your trip! Ponca is approximately 12 miles west on Highway 74. (Turn right onto 74) View elk from the comfort of your vehicle. (Elk were re-introduced to Arkansas recently and are thriving. Elk can be viewed by turning left onto Highway 43 and driving a short distance. Additionally, enjoy the historical 100-year-old Boxley Baptist Church which still holds services, the historical farmstead, and the Elk museum in Ponca. Jasper, the county seat for Newton County, has its own delights. The Ozark Cafe is a time-honored tradition that serves down-home cooking to visitors and locals. Antiquing at Emma's Museum of Junk is a treat not to miss. The Chamber of Commerce offers hand-crafted items from local craftsmen as well as information about the area. Want to float the Buffalo? Several concessionaires offer canoe rentals, drop-off and and pick-up services.

Of course, Branson and all its entertainment venues is just one hour away from the cabin.
