About the property

Wild and Wonderful, White Tail Run Retreat

Nestled in the woods, our home in Old Timberline is a great getaway as a couples retreat or a family fun-filled weekend. Ensuring an abundance of privacy, the property is situated on 5 acres at the end of the road in a community with entry via a guarded gate house. A perfect spot for gentle bike rides, taking pleasure in a walk and catching the amazing night skies, White Tail Run provides a reprieve from the hustle and bustle. The house is comprised of a well-appointed kitchen with 2 dining tables, 4 comfortable bedrooms and 3 full baths. There are 2 generous living areas; one upper, one lower, each with an enormous wood burning stone fireplace. The main floor, which has the kitchen, family room, 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, is accessible directly from the driveway. This makes for effortless unloading of bags and groceries and accommodates anyone who may not be able to easily navigate stairs. Retreat downstairs and take in a movie on the 55 inch LED TV or a game of pool in a separate room. The open backyard provides lots of room for romping in all seasons. Plus, for the adventurous there is a path leading down the hill to the enchantments of the meandering Blackwater River. Sit on one of the generous rocks and listen to nature or get a kick out of the squeals of children spying crayfish. Enjoy the outdoor porch and relish the early morning harmony of the birds and deer as well as capturing the fabulous evening sun sets. Whatever the reason or season, White Tail Run provides the gifts of nature, privacy and comfort ensuring a relaxing stay and an opportunity to build amazing vacation memories anytime of the year.

The beauty of a Timberline location is that you have access to many area attractions. The houses location is close driving proximity for winter fun at both of the slopes of Timberline and Canaan making it convenient to drop off the snow bunnies and pick them up anytime. During the warmer months it is easy to plan your outdoor excursions to Blackwater Falls, Seneca Rocks, Smoke Hole Caverns, or the Dolly Sods and easily make it back to home base with plenty of time to relax.

If you should be coming from the DC/NVA area, from exit 55 on I-66 it is a tad less than a 3 hour drive! An easy journey now that US 48 (Corridor H) is complete to the top of Scherr Mountain and almost to Davis.

Beautiful Home - Privacy with more than enough room for the entire family

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Jessica's house for our family vacation. There was plenty of room to play T-Ball in the backyard and the scenery was amazing. Cooking in the kitchen was just like being at home with a great assortment of cookware. Jessica was an amazing host and we consider ourselves fortunate to have discovered this gem.

White Deer on the Mountain

  • 4 of 5

Our family of multiple generations - grandparents, parents and little ones, all had a fabulous time exploring the area of Canaan Valley while staying at this home. Everything worked out well, convenient location, nicely remote, the house is on the Blackwater River, with walks nearby. It was early spring in the mountains but warm enough during the day, that we never used the fireplace or heat. The kitchen is well appointed for home cooked meals.

TV and Dish network worked great for the small amount of entertainment that the kids needed indoors. We recommend this home !

Cozy and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This home was a wonderful place in which to spend a long weekend. The location was convenient to Timberline and Canaan Valley ski resorts, but also very private within the community. There was no snow on the ground when we were there, but you would definitely need an all-weather vehicle if there was - the roads to get back to the house are steep and curvy. The house looked welcoming when we arrived. Although some of the furniture was a bit shabby, everything was very clean and we felt comfortable from the start, especially since we were traveling with somewhat messy teens. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner - plenty of dishes, mugs, pots and pans, kitchen tools, etc. We loved the arrangement of the house - the kids had their space downstairs and we had ours on the main level. When it was time to pack up and go home, there was clear and detailed information on what to do to close up the house, which we appreciated. We didn't have any issues during our stay so we never had to contact the owner, but she was very responsive before our trip while we were making our plans. We will definitely consider this home again should we return to the area.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

White Tail Run was the perfect getaway for my friends and I. First off, the owner Jessica could not have been more helpful. Before you arrive, she sends you links to different attractions throughout the area. We found this to be very helpful because despite the little snow we got (we went for a ski trip), we were able to look back at those other things to do. The house itself is kept very clean and we loved how open the kitchen was as there were 6 of us. There were always three girls cooking in the kitchen so plenty of room. It is also very secluded which is another thing we loved as it was so peaceful and quiet. There are deer everywhere and we got to see Turkey's walking around every morning. It was also comforting to know there was security at the front to get back into the cabins. We couldn't recommend White Tail Run any more. We loved it and will definitely be back!

family ski adventure!

  • 5 of 5

A view of turkeys in the yard and snow covered mountains with a warm cozy fire and a spacious home all helped make this an excellent choice for a week of skiing and family fun. The house was well-equipped and Jessica was personable and accommodating. Great fun.

About Jessica Bassett

We are recent transplants to beautiful Fairfax Station, VA. I am originally from Charleston, WV and met my husband at Ohio University and upon graduation moved to Baltimore, MD, where we lived in the historic area of Guilford for 25 years.

Jessica Bassett purchased this cabin in 1989

Why Jessica Bassett chose Davis

This home has been in my family for over 25 years and we have enjoyed nature at its best over the years. We return to White Tail Run as often as work and the children's schedules permit. The draw of the mountains is one that I can not resist for long.

What makes this cabin unique

This is a beautiful, unspoiled location in the highest valley east of the Rockies. A 4 season property with access to Skiing, Hiking, and more activities to enjoy set only by the limits of your imagination!
