About this property

Luxury Cabin Overlooking Large Trout Pond on Former Summer Camp.. Come & Play

A housekeeper has been trained with cleaning prevention guidelines and practices. Guest will find a package including hand sanitizers and face masks that they can use during their stay.

This luxurious mountain cabin sits atop a knoll overlooking a very large, stocked trout pond ready for fishing. Enjoy grilling out on the home's deck with the new grill while taking in the beautiful view, or just relaxing on the porch by candlelight listening to the cascading water over the rocks of the stream running to the side of the house.

Inside you'll find a very large great room with a combination living/kitchen/dining room which is perfect for relaxing entertainment by the wood-burning, native stone fireplace---perfect on the chilly mountain nights. The living room is equipped with a new HD Television and Blu-Ray/DVD player, as well as DirecTV satellite TV with movie and sports channel packages. The home has wireless, high-speed internet access. The kitchen is equipped with all utensils, as well as virtually all baking, grilling, and other cooking tools that you'll need to prepare a gourmet meal. New glassware and dinnerware sets for 8 are stocked in the cabinets. A coffee maker with permanent filter, toaster, convection toaster oven, and microwave oven are in the home, as are a new washer and dryer set.

This home has just recently been placed on VRBO and has new furnishings, linens, and high-end mattresses. The master BR has a King-sized bed and the second BR is a Queen-sized mattress (both Stearns & Foster). Sheets are 1000-thread count. The living room has a suitably comfortable sleeper sofa (Queen) and new sleeper loveseat (Twin) to make the home sleep 7-8 people, if needed (owner approval). Both bedrooms have new HDTV televisions with complete DirecTV channel packages.

Originally a summer camp over fifty years ago, the property on which the home now sits is a private, family estate comprised of 66 mountainous acres with two ponds that are fed by 3 streams that all originate on the property. The home sits on the footprint of what was the camp's headmaster's cabin. The original native stone steps lead up the hill to the deck giving the cabin unique, historic character.

There are only two cabins on this camp now, although the tract of land is very large---66 acres---so the two homes on this property remain private from one another. A small mountain separates the two and they are not within sight or hearing range of the other.

There are two small fields at the top of the mountain that are perfect for playing games with the family and throwing balls to the dogs, etc. Unused gravel roads and trails wind through the property and are perfect for leisurely strolls, short hikes, and dog-walking. There are some hidden trails in the forest for those that are brave-hearted that like outright bushwhacking! Kids absolutely love playing in the streams on the property sifting through the water looking for 'rubies' in the rocks and throwing pebbles in the pond.... And the trout-fishing is loads of fun. The largest pond is about an acre and has an outbuilding/garage overlooking that's used as an entertainment site with a very large deck for grilling, eating out, or just relaxing while watching the kids fish.

Structural relics of the old summer camp still exist throughout the property---stone foundations from the dining hall, a stone amphitheater in a mountain cove, old stone outdoor fireplaces, etc.----all making for interesting outdoor exploration.

This property is much more than a rental home---it's an adventure!

(Note: This is a newly added VRBO home, so look at my other home on the property if you'd like to see more reviews from former guest look at property number 350504. If this home is booked for the dates that you're interested in, then I suggest you consider the other home as well).

Peaceful Mountain Getaway
We were looking for someplace that was out of the way, but close to a variety of things to do. This property had it all!! Our dog loved being able to roam the property and explore the woods and streams. We were only a 15 minute drive to Brevard and about an hour drive to Asheville. The cabin was roomy and provided everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The front porch was a perfect place to relax with the family. We will definitely be back!

Perfect
This cabin was perfect for us. It was extremely clean with tons of amenities. The location is quiet, peaceful, close to town and very dog friendly. It is on a beautiful, unique and well-kept piece of property. David was amazing. While we were there, we had a problem come up (that had nothing to do with the cabin). Immediately after I messaged David, he called us and helped us resolve the problem. I also left an item and once it was found it was promptly mailed back to me. I have not one complaint about the cabin. It was absolutely perfect.

Presidents Day weekend
It was a very clean, comfortable cabin with lots of space and fresh updates. Great little trout pond in the front yard, trails to hike, and not far from Brevard. Dave was a pleasure to work with and very responsive to our questions during the booking process. I’d highly recommend this property.

Had a great time!
Even though we had rainy weather, we really enjoyed staying at this house. It was comfortable, nice to have the garage. The beds were comfortable, there was a strong WiFi signal and good internet speed once you figured out how to connect (wasn’t clear at first). Fished the ponds out front and caught four large rainbow trout the first day! It was a comfortable house to get away and unwind in. Thank you!

Just a bit about me. I live full-time in Atlanta but am a Western North Carolina native. As a child growing up in the area I loved spending time outdoors and some of my fondest memories were attending Gwynn Valley summer camp in Brevard and hiking in Pisgah Forest. I’ve owned the property where you’ll be staying for about 20 years and previously shared it with my mother and her husband, and now look forward to retiring there myself---hopefully sooner than later! My son,10, loves ‘adventures’ on the property and learning to fish, and I really enjoy gardening, hiking, and anything outdoors as I’m ‘trapped’ in the office in Atlanta most of the time! I’m an amateur botanist/naturalist (most people don’t like to hike with me because I stop to ‘look’ at things all the time!) and the mountains are my escape from city life. I’m counting the days until I return to my mountain home where I'm truly happiest. I'm honored to be the custodian of this beautiful property and share it with my family and friends, and my sincere intent is to have them love and appreciate it as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

This property is unlike others as it's located on the footprint of a very old summer camp that has old native stone walls, beautiful old stone foundations from buildings like archeological sites, old roads weaving through the property now just trails for walks that go nowhere. Privacy and room to play is what the property offers. Fire pits, picnic tables, an old stone amphitheater built into a mountain cove make things special for family gatherings. All of this 15 minutes from Brevard, 20 minutes from Pisgah Forest with the hiking, waterfalls, and unique mix of cultural offerings, such as the summer Brevard Music Festival and great restaurants, shopping, art and music in this small, mountain town is truly unique. My dream was to share the property with my family and friends, and guests, in hopes that they love and appreciate it as much as I do. The property is large and very private with only two homes. It offers plenty of room to explore and a perfect place for kids and dogs to play outdoors. It's close to town, less than an hour away from Asheville yet just down the road from Gorges State Park, rafting and canoeing, fly fishing and a stocked trout pond right on the property.

What makes this property unique

This home has a commanding view of the property as it sits on the same footprint of the former head counselor/camp director's home of decades past. It's located on a small knoll at the bottom of a mountain overlooking the large trout pond, overlooking shop/entertainment building, old stone foundations, fire pit, picnic tables and abundant green lawns and gardens that are the primary features of property. While this listing says 'cabin' it's truly a home with all of the amenities that you'll need as it's very well equipped. One other unique feature is that the driveway comes right up to the home's garage that provides easy access (only 2 steps from garage floor to rear entrance) for my older guests or those with mobility issues.
