About this property

Rustic private lake cottage/cabin found nestled in Amish Country in northeast In

If you are reading any reviews. We opened in 2006 and we were called Mirror Lake bed and breakfast. in 2022 we changed our bed and breakfast to an accommodation stay only so breakfast is no longer an option. It is now called the Mirror Lake Bunkhouse. Please keep in mind that we live in the big house in the picture. And the bunkhouse is located across the driveway from our home. Mirror lake Bunkhouse is priced for a 2 person stay additional people are 20.00 each per day. Mirror Lake bunkhouse is not big, nor is it fancy. It has that make yourself at home, peaceful, private and relaxing feeling. Our 500 sq. ft. rustic cabin/lake cottage is located in northern 'northeast' Indiana. Just outside the small town of Rome City. Where you will find the Fought's 175 acre grain farm.

And here is Mirror Lake cabin we call the BUNKHOUSE. You are in your own private one bedroom, one bath and living room. With a warm and cozy atmosphere, it can easily sleep 4 comfortably. The bedroom has an Amish made Hickory queen size bed and an antique youth bed (longer and thinner). The bunkhouse has a vaulted ceiling and 8ft interior walls. The living room has 2 sofas that convert to queen size sleepers. With air conditioning, 43” flat screen TV, gas fireplace, WIFI but no satellite, no phone. We all need time to do some “disconnecting “. The bathroom has a NEWLY added step in shower with a vanity and vesicle sink. The kitchenette is minimal NO ONE WANTS TO GO ON VACATION AND COOK ALL THE TIME. So there is a table and 4 chairs, with mini refrigerate, toaster oven, microwave, coffee pot, dishes, cups and silverware.( No oven, pots or pans.)

Your outside living space includes a patio, glider, fire pit and Blackstone griddle. Plus lots of green grass and acres to roam on. Sit on your wood glider and watch the sun go down over the water. Relax by the 4ft above ground pool, fish from the pier or drive the John Deere Gator to either of the 2- 10 acre woods. Walk or bike on the safe, mowed paths. Visit the 2 primitive cabins as well ( if there are no campers). Look for the deer, wild turkeys, Sand Hill Cranes, Osprey's, Owls and more. Pet the horses Fame (the paint ) and Chickoda ( the bay) maybe they will let you give them a slice of apple.

You can bring your own tackle, poles and bait. You are welcomed to rent the mini pontoon ( runs by a trolling motor) or fishing boat for fishing inside the private lake. Life jackets and flotations cushions provided and MUST be one per person in each boat. Fishing is catch and release or you are welcome to keep and cleaning. We do not supply any cleaning supplies. So you need to bring your own. Non swimmers MUST wear life jackets and everyone MUST sign liability forms. We are NOT responsible for accidents.

Mirror Lake is ALL about getting away from it ALL. But still have all the amenities. Although mirror lake bunkhouse is located in the middle of Amish lifestyle. Within 2 miles is the back roads tavern restaurant. Within 4 miles is the local restaurant Coody Brown’s located on Witmer Lake. . And just 4 miles straight down Northport Road, is ‘Sylvan Cellars’ tasting room. Many times they have entertainment and bands. You can also call ‘Sylvan Cellars’ party bus and they will come to mirror Lake and pick you up and bring you home safely.

Mirror Lake takes you away from all the pressures of life, stress of the traffic, noise and congestion. Here you are surrounded by no people or crowds. Mirror Lake Bunkhouse is a place to sit back relax, take it easy, take in nature and reconnect with each other and nature as well.

** we are pet, friendly, but pets are $30 each pet each day. Please when you are requesting a date let me know if you are bringing pets. We do supply towels for pets only and coverings for the couches if your four-legged family member gets on the furniture. Thank you.

Beautiful place
We stayed a couple nights so we could run some errands up in the northern Indiana area and do some shopping. We were also able to bring our two doggies who enjoyed their time as much as we did. We’ll definitely be back again.

About the host

Host profile image
We have lived on the farm for over 24 years. We have 3 grown children & 3 grand daughters. That all still live near the area. I come from a large family of 10 siblings and over 40 nieces and nephews. And now over 30 great nieces & nephews (and that is just my side). I host most of the family gatherings. When my kids left the house I missed people coming and going. This has been a dream and a thought of mine for over 15 years. So with the help of my husband in 2006 we remodeled a 2 car garage. And converted it into our Bed and Breakfast we call the 'Bunkhouse'. Giving you all the amenities but keeping it rustic, cabin-like & simple. When we are not working around the property. We enjoy riding our horses, our pool, golfing, fishing, our cabins for campfires and camping. We also enjoy using the river on our property for canoeing and Kayaking. I used to think no would ever come all the way out here to stay. Then I would ride my horse in the trails in the woods and come back to the house. Looking over all the property then I would think. It's to pretty not to share. A life style almost forgotten. Time for us all to sit back & relax & enjoy life for awhile.

Why they chose this property

When life hands you lemons you make Lemon-aid. My first husband died when we were 28. We were living outside Kendallville. In a new home in the woods. Jed & his wife had bought 6 acres, the home and portion of the lake in 1988. Just a few months later, she too passed away too at the age of 28. 6 years later in 1994 we married and I & my 7 year old son moved to Mirror Lake. Where we joined Jed (my husband) and his daughter of 10 and son of 7. We fell in love with the property. I too grow up on a family farm in the country and loved it. My husband was a dairy farmer. He milked cows on the home place just a few miles from this home. We have now purchased the entire farm of 175 acres, the family cemetery, the south half of the private lake and the 15 acre woods across the lake. For 17 years of our marriage he milked cows and was gone alot and worked very long hours. 4 years ago he sold the cows and now is only a grain farmer. And we have a lot more time to enjoy our property. What isn't there to LOVE?? Fresh air, green grass, green growing crops, blue sky, beautiful water, the Little Elkhart River, horse trails to ride or walk on. Peace, privacy, nature in all directions and FISH too. WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE??

What makes this property unique

The main house dates to the early 1830's. There is a family cemetery with 49 graves on the farm, just south of the horse barn. We have an Osprey (bird) nest in our power line tower. There are only 5 nests in Noble Co. and 3 in LaGrange Co. AND WE HAVE ONE. This is their 5th year returning. It is peaceful and private. You are the only guests on the main property (there maybe campers in the woods at the 2 campsites.) A place to reconnect to each other or be on a vacation with another couple and NOT be surrounded by other people. Again did I say PRIVATE AND PEACEFUL!!
