ABOUT THE TRI-C RANCH:
Get ready for a truly unique vacation experience at the TRI-C Ranch, a historic 5- bedroom, 3-bathroom ranch house located southwest of Sugar Land, Texas. This working cow calf ranch has been in operation since 1901, making it a true piece of Texas history.
But that’s not all-the TRI-C Ranch is also the perfect spot for equestrians looking to hit the trails at Brazos Bend State Park. And if you’re looking for a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of city life, you’ll love the ranch’s sere surroundings. Listen to the soothing songs of quail, dove, and horned owls, and gaze up at the star-filled skies that inspired the nearby George Observatory.
Inside the ranch house, you’ll find a stunning collection of local Texas fine art and crafts. The walls serve as a gallery for the works of several generations of painters, making this a truly unique and inspiring place to stay. And with 300 acres of Gulf Coast Prairie land surrounding you, you’ll feel like you’re truly getting away from it all.
Families, dogs, and horses are all welcome at the TRI-C Ranch, and there’s plenty to do nearby. Check out Brazos Bend State Park and the George Observatory just 8 miles away, or visit Varner Hogg Plantation and the George Ranch Historical Park, both open to the public. And if you’re in the mood for some city fun, Houston and the Sugar Land area are just a short drive away, with plenty of museums, shopping, restaurants, and entertainment to explore.
Photographers and plein aire painters will be in heaven at the TRI-C Ranch, with 350 acres of natural beauty to capture on canvass or film. And at the end of the day, you can relax and listen to the sound of quail, dove, and bullfrogs as you reflect on your unforgettable Texas adventure.

A very special place to stay.
We rented the Hopkins house while waiting for the construction of our new house to be completed. After the stress of selling our old house and moving, we could not ask for a more peaceful place to spend the time. The land is beautiful with wide open skies, large shady trees, and a large pond. The farmhouse is full of art and treasures that tell the story of its wonderful family history. It has plenty of space with quiet porches to sit and watch the sunrise. Catherine is a gracious host who has taken lots of time and thought to make the property feel like home. From the delicious cake she baked for our arrival to treating our two little dogs like family, she has been a kind and generous host. We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to stay at the Hopkins house!

About the host

Hosted by Catherine Ward

Host profile image
I am the fourth generation on the Ward Ranch. My great grandfather migrated from Illinois to the Gulf Coast for the purpose of farming and ranching. 2014 the ranch was divided and I spent the year restoring three 1930s style farm houses. The Hopkins House has been a labor of historical love. I grew up here as did my father. I enjoy the tranquility of Texas prairie land , caring for the farm houses, and portrait painting.

Why they chose this property

My family has loved farming and ranching throughout the generations. I am no different. 350 acres of Gulf Coast prairie land, excellent for grazing, surrounds the Hopkins House. The pastoral environment is home to a multitude of wildlife. Retired now and focusing on painting and drawing, the ranch allows me a quiet peaceful place to work and witness first hand the living land.

What makes this property unique

While being close enough to participate in the many activities the city offers, the Hopkins House is a 350 acre oasis of quiet calm. No horns honk here....the sounds are that of the dove, the cottonwood trees, and the windmill. If you are looking for a slice of the Lone Star, this is Texas: what was, what is, and what could be! It's also an excellent place if you are traveling with a horse and want to trail ride. It's only 8 miles to Brazos Bend where there are bridal paths. There are 350 acres to exercise your horse on the Ward Ranch.
