About this property

Quiet with Views - Pet Friendly - late booking special

This is a unique spot nestled in the oaks and pines of the Camden Hills where the Megunticook Lake spills into the Megunticook River, with the Camden Hills beyond.

This 2 bedroom/1 bath private unit in a tastefully renovated Cape Cod (duplex) faces south with views of the upper river basin and the Camden Hills. Loons call throughout the summer and eagles are occasionally spotted fishing from atop the pines. This is a great rental for a relaxing get-away or as a home base for day trips to Acadia, coastal drives, kayak outings on the river or lake, or day hikes in the Camden Hills State park.

We live (quietly) in the other unit next door, and our house is about 3 miles from downtown Camden's harbor shops and restaurants. Rockport is just a few minutes away, and Rockland’s museums, shops and places to eat are an easy 15 minute drive (we’ll tell you the back roads to avoid Route 1.) Fall rentals feature close proximity to The Camden Hills State Park for hiking and 'leaf peeping'.

The 2 bedrooms feature a flexible set-up that can comfortably accommodate four, but can stretch to six with advance planning and available air mattresses. The extra large master bedroom (25' X 12') features a king bed (or two twins) with adjoining seating area, or it can be converted to large dorm-style room arranged with two twins and a single or double air mattress. A second bedroom features a queen bed with desk and seating. There is also a well-drained lawn if the kids want to sleep in their tent.

Bedrooms each have a multi-speed ceiling fan, and the largest has an in-window air conditioner, although midcoast Maine generally does not need it with famously temperate days and cool nights.

The unit has a large full bathroom with dual sinks, a whirlpool tub and separate walk-in tiled shower. The washer/dryer is there, or if you prefer, a sunlit clothes line in the back yard.

The living area next to the cook’s kitchen features a comfortable couch and chairs, with a large bright bay window with views of the outdoors,. We provide wireless internet and Roku cable as well as Amazon Prime and Pandora. Outside is a small deck, and a stone patio with seating. There is a gas bbq for your use.

This property is just a short walk to Hodson Park, a favorite fishing spot where Megunticook Lake spills into the Megunticook River. It is a short drive to Barrett's Cove swimming beach (Megunticook Lake) off Beaucaire Road, and in the other direction 1/4 mile walk or drive to the Megunticook boat launch.

The property is provided with fresh linens and towels, and the kitchen is stocked with basic provisions like salt, flour, sugar and oil. Please feel free to request a stocked frig option with a selection from fresh local markets. Laundry is onsite, or an in-town drop-off service is available.

We look forward to answering any of your questions, and for you to have a private and pleasant vacation in our home on the beautiful Midcoast of Maine. We look forward to your stay, and please email if we can help you navigate the booking process. Thank you.

Lovely stay!
We had a great week at this property. The homeowners do live in a separate part of the house, as stated in the description, but we did not find their presence to be intrusive or problematic in any way. Paul was lovely and greeted us at the door when we arrived, and explained all the amenities of the property. It was a hot week and the AC unit upstairs was a godsend! It was a lovely stay and we would recommend it for adults and small families alike.

Nice owner but dirty house
Paul, the owner was just great. He was responsive to our needs. The back patio door would not lock and he came and fixed it. We needed the house cleaned in the middle of the two weeks and he arranged for a maid. That said, we did not enjoy our stay because the house was really dirty. The grounds have been neglected and the "herb garden" overrun with weeds. There were cobwebs everywhere, Daddy Long legs in every room, the pillows smelled, the furniture was old and in bad repair, the kitchen sink not only did not have a garbage disposal, it was so old that the wire screen on the drain was tiny and constantly clogged. We put sheets over the couch before we would sit on it as it smelled and was dusty and dirty. The floor plan left a lot to be desired. There was only one bath upstairs for 4 women to share so 2 had to go downstairs to the other one. The bedrooms were not separate, you had to walk thru one to get to the other. There was one painting that gave us all the creeps and it was right over where we played bridge every night. It gave me nightmares the first night and I had to sit with my back to it for the rest of the two weeks. It should not be in a house where children are staying. Right around the corner, on the beautiful lake, which you could not see from the house, were houses that rented in the summer. We wish we would have known about those as they had spectacular views of the lake and were clean and nice. If going to this area again I would rent one of those! There is hope for this place but it needs a huge overhaul. Get the exterminator out there and kill the spiders, restore the yard to its former glory, have the furniture repaired and cleaned. Put in a new kitchen sink that allows for waste disposal and get rid of that awful painting.

Peaceful Camden getaway
Located in quiet area with quick access to civilization. We biked adjacent roads and kayaked in both the lake and river. We were group of six and found house suited our needs. Large desk was perfect for puzzles! Ceiling fans upstairs kept the rooms very comfortable for sleeping. Kitchen is well stocked with cookware. Many books to browse & nice artwork. If you have to work there’s a nice space upstairs with a view of the river. The driveway demands your attention- there are some large rocks that you don’t want to back into. The town of Camden is a five minute drive and major grocery store just a little further.

Delightful home. Conveniently located to many attractions and activities in and around Camden.
Enchanting home with an amazing library and wonderful artwork. It had everything we needed. Two couples with two kids each and we had plenty of room. Close to the lake, beach, hiking and biking trails. We would love to come back and the host was incredibly gracious and accommodating.

Great place for a winter stay
We were in town for the Camden Tobaggan festival with a group of five, and this was the perfect house and location. Very comfortable radiant floor heat and a nice woodstove made it a warm and welcome place to come back to after a day in the snow. It is beautifilly furnished, with nice comfortable beds, and a great bathroom upstairs with a walk-in shower and a jacuzzi bath. We were all very pleased with our stay, thanks.
