Private 2 Bedroom, 2 Bath On The Chama River With 360º Mountain View
I am an abstract painter and I moved to Abiquiu, NM about 3 1/2 years ago. I fell in love with the beautiful area and the artist community. The community is warm and friendly and it seems that Abiquiu has become the new hot spot of NM. Most people are not that familiar with the area. The landscape is filled with red rock mountains, and blue mountain ranges. The Sangre de Cristo mountains are the backdrop for the casita and most of the year they are snow capped against that western blue sky. Ghost Ranch and Georgia O'Keefe's home are in Abiquiu.
Susan purchased this Guest House in 2012
Why Susan chose Abiquiu
I did not intend to move to NM. I was visiting friends and decided to look at property for the fun of it. When I entered the 24 acres right on the river and my beautiful home which was originally built by a Chicago architect and his partner , I knew I was home. Both the casita and my home are filled with light and no matter which window you gaze out of the view is spectacular. I could not get the property out of my mind. The casita was a bonus as it is a wonderful space for family and friends to unwind and it gives me the opportunity to rent it out to new people exploring the area. I love meeting my interesting guests and hope that they enjoy the space as much as I.
What makes this Guest House unique
Abiquiu is only 50 minutes out of Santa Fe and about 1 hour and 15 minutes to Taos. We are also only 50 minutes from Los Alamos. There is a superb chef owner restaurant that has opened in Abiquiu called Arioso. Lunch and dinner reservations must be made online and you bring your own beverage and aperitif to be enjoyed with your delightful meal. The Chef Julian goes out of his way to create 4 courses that are divine. The reataurant is very close to Viento del Rio. There is hiking, rafting , and kayaking. Abiquiu Lake which recently put in a new beach is only 20 minutes away. A wonderful art gallery called the Rising Moon gallery has local and international artists work. Jaye Buros , who is the proprietor and herself an artist has a wide variety of entertainment at the gallery from authors talks, gallery openings and music through the area.

Abiquiu is a town of interesting art, gorgeous scenery & lovely hospitable people. This casita is beautiful & in a central location for easy access to all the area has to offer. Susan, the owner, is delightful & welcoming. We’ll be back for sure!
Thank you for your lovely review. I am thrilled that you feel as I do about our Abiquiu, a little jewel. Please come back. I enjoyed having you as guests and having a chance to talk with you about your exotic travels.
Looking forward to your return.
Perfect Tranquil Retreat
Viento Del Reo is a perfect place to absorb the serenity of the Abiquiu area. It is off the beaten path (but not too far), a truly lovely place, with an artist's touch/sensibilities. And it is in easy driving distance to many area wonders, including Ghost Ranch and Los Alamos.
The host is gracious and warm - like the accommodations.
Stay here to treat your self to a wonderous dose of solitude.
Thank you for your lovely review of Viento del Rio. It wAs a pleasure having the four of you as guests and I hope that you will return.
Safe and happy travels
Susan’s casita has everything - comfort, views, and a great location!! I stayed for a month during some cold snowy days and was warm and cozy the entire time. The views in all directions were stunning and watching the clouds gather over the Pedernal as a winter storm approached was dramatic. Ducks, geese, and swans flew overhead regularly, and one morning a herd of 22 elk passed through. Plaza Blanca, about five minutes away, became my favorite place to hike, take photos, and simply stare at amazing rock formations. There is so much to explore in this area - Ghost Ranch, Sante Fe, Taos, pueblos - I could easily have stayed another month or two! (But I plan to come back....)
Susan was the perfect hostess - welcoming, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, nearby if needed but respectful of my space. She’s also a wonderful artist, and it was fun to see her bold, colorful paintings.
Yes, I would highly recommend Viento Del Rio!
It was wonderful Martha having you here for the month. The time flew by for me. I enjoyed seeing your beautiful water colors that you created while here. Thank you for leaving me with one of those jewels.
The nicest treat with your visit is that I have a lovely new friend and I look forward to your return.
Happy Spring Martha and thank you for the marvelous review.
Our stay at Viento Del Rio was wonderful! It was very relaxing and lovely to sit and look out the large windows at the surroundings day and night. The home is wonderfully set up, the basket of goodies and bottle of wine were very much appreciated, a special added touch! We hope to return for more visits and will highly recommend this lovely home.
Paula, it was wonderful to have you as guests at Viento del Rio. Having you as guests in the casita brings a great energy to my home. I look forward to your return. Thank you,
