About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bath 1400 square foot cabin with river and waterfall views

Rustic log sided cabin at the foot of the Mogollon Rim on bank of E Verde close to the river's beginning springs. Cabin sits on 3/4 acre lot with about 250 feet of river frontage. This 3 bedroom cabin fits 6 comfortably. Picture windows in family, dining room, kitchen, and sun room all face the river, which flows all year. Additional water releases into the river during the summer months increases the river water flow, which lowers river air temperatures several

degrees. Photos shown are the natural river flow. Front patio seating with chiminea. Back of cabin has a fire pit and propane barbeque with stone seating facing river's edge. Back of cabin lot is fenced, with gate leading to several hiking trails. Nearby dirt trails allow for quads, off roading, and hiking. Satellite TV with DVD player, Internet, and Magic Jack internet phone, with flat screen TV's. Surrounded by National Forest. There are no trout additions by the hatchery this far up the river, so please the fishing policy is only catch and release. About a two mile hike to the E Verde River's originating springs. No glass containers are allowed near the river's edge. Always please watch your children near water.

Why Chuck Pfeifer chose Arizona

Located at 6000 foot elevation on the river's edge in a hollow, this has been a great get away from the valley summer heat, a cool 25-30 degrees air difference than the valley. One can play in the cold river's water to cool down.

What makes this cabin unique

River visible by more than half of the cabin's windows.

Incredible Natural Setting & House

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I totally loved staying 2 weeks in July at this house on the river with beautiful waterfalls. Every window looks out on green trees and vegetation; many have river views, including from the dining room and sun room tables. Some mornings I walked along the little path below the house to sit right in front of the waterfall to paint it. Hearing the waterfall and river at night as we went to sleep was especially lovely.

Many times we hiked up the trail that begins about a mile from the house. The house was very comfortable for us with lots of seating, a couple of recliners, an excellent mattress and easy facilities for cooking. We shopped once in Payson and a week later in Pine, which had a cute little pizza restaurant that we enjoyed.

We have rented many houses on VRBO but this was our favorite. We are looking forward to a return visit.

Owner's Response: Thank you and your husband for the great review. It makes me happy to know you both thoroughly enjoyed your visit, particularly having traveled all the way from Sacramento. The Highline Trail you mentioned seems to be a popular hike. Sure would like to see your waterfall paintings. You are certainly welcomed back. Hope to see you as early as next year.

Owner's Response: Glad you had fun in the river. With a wet weekend that you experienced and in the middle of the monsoon season, I'm always happy to hear that visitors still enjoy themselves in spite of the rain.

Peace and beauty

  • 5 of 5

The location of this cabin is tucked away in a quiet corner of nature. The cabin had everything we needed with details on how to use everything. Sitting on the patio in the early morning was my favorite part. The squirrels, birds and chipmunks came by each day to entertain us. The weather was a bit warm in the afternoon during our summer stay but the evenings and mornings were perfect. The cabin had several fans to keep the air circulating. The directions were exact and we were at the cabin in 30 minutes from the main road in Payson. We plan to visit again.

Owner's Response: Glad your family was able to relax and enjoy their stay in spite of the heat. June always seems to surprise us with the hottest weather of the year. The flowing river seems to mentally relax people.
