Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms + Sofa Sleeper + Air Mattress, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6)

Historic home, in a quiet tree-lined neighborhood, 2 blocks from the heart of the action!

Quiet and comfortable 2 bedrooms, on the 1st floor of a classic DC townhouse. Located in one of the most upscale sections of the city - the west side of DuPont Circle, in Kalorama - the safest neighborhood in DC. President Obama lives just around the corner!

The home is exceptionally large - 1200 square feet of indoor living space - featuring high ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and period finishes. Enhancing those quarters is a private screened-in back porch. Nestled in the trees, it's the perfect place to relax after a day of business or sightseeing.

The bedrooms are nicely sized and comfortably appointed; the mattresses topped with freshly laundered linens, cleaned just prior to your arrival. If traveling with couples, the sofa sleeper in the living room expands the sleeping quarters.

The kitchen is fully equipped, and if you're into organics, included is a Vitamix. Please feel free to use our spices for your cooking needs; groceries can be purchased just down the way at the corner market.

You are a short walk to hundreds of cafes and restaurants in DuPont and Georgetown, and within walking distance to the Capitol, White House, Smithsonian, Washington Monument, and the zoo.

The DuPont Metro Station is just a few blocks away, and cabs are abundant in the area. If you are bringing a vehicle, street parking permits can be added to your quote.

What you can expect: It is my aim to provide guests five-star amenities; the same touches that I appreciate when I travel: lodging located in a gorgeous neighborhood, cleanliness, upscale linens and towels, comfortable mattresses, high-speed Internet and eclectic decor.

Please Note: I book on a first-come basis, and the furnishings are constantly evolving.

Here's what Pam had to say about her stay:

Wonderful property in a fabulous location. My husband and two young adult children used this property on a recent visit to DC. The description of the property including photos was perfectly accurate. The apartment is lovely with interesting and comfortable furnishings and was spotless on our arrival. I was thrilled to find a French coffee press in the kitchen which makes delicious coffee! How wonderful it was to have a cup of coffee on the screened back porch in such a quiet setting. The area is great with easy access to restaurants, shopping and Metro. We enjoyed just walking the area to view the surrounding architecture and Embassies. The owner was thorough, helpful and well-organized on all materials involving the property. We would highly recommend this property for any visit to DC and would hope to stay there again ourselves.

About Gloria

I am a writer who works out of her home, and my husband is a former mayor of Kansas City and is currently a publisher in Washington, DC. We prefer quiet homes in residential neighborhoods when we travel, and offer ours to like-minded people whenever we're away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are a family of five, we all had a fantastic stay in Gloria's apartment in Kalorama, best neighborhood of Washington. Safe and close to Dupont Circle, a lot of stores and restaurants nearby.

The apartment is very charming and livable, the porch is so cosy and the best place to end the day.

Gloria is forthcoming and accommodating, very helpful in every way.

We would definitely stay again. Highly recommended.

Wonderful Fall Weekend in DC

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this property for a long weekend in early October. The listing described the property very accurately. The neighborhood was quiet and safe. Parking was easy, with the parking permit that Gloria secured for the weekend - friends were able to park near the home when they came to visit on Sunday. The furnishings were stylish and fun. Loved the chandeliers! The beds were warm and comfortable. We liked sitting in the dining room, reading the paper in the morning. The walk to DuPont Circle was easy and interesting through streets filled with beautiful embassies and lovely statues. The Phillips Collection is nearby, with extended hours on Thursdays.

There is a small shop a short walk away for groceries, added bonus was walking there via the Spanish Steps! We enjoyed dinner at Cafe Nora (call ahead for a reservation), Vidalia, and the Russia House. Highly recommend Kramer's Book Store for Sunday Brunch - browse the books while waiting for a table! Took the train to the Mall everyday, and had wonderful meals at Old Ebbits (don't miss the oyster bar at Happy Hour), and, oddly, the cafe at the National Museum of American Indians. Nice farmer's market at DuPont Circle on Sunday. Gloria was very professional and attentive during the booking, our stay, and following up afterward. We had everything we needed and would stay in this property again.

Owner's Response: Dear Ms. K, Can I hire you to write my website copy? I couldn't have described my home, or what you can find in my neighborhood, any better than you did. Thank you for helping other traveler's be informed! Wishing you all things wonderful, Gloria

Clean, comfortable and convenient place to rest during a busy trip!

  • 5 of 5

Gloria was very responsive and proactive with the info she shared to make sure we were comfortable and prepared for our stay, not that much prep was needed. There were enough amenities included so we could travel light and still feel comfortable when crashing at the end of long days doing the tourist thing. Quiet neighborhood and still very convenient to get in and out of downtown. Plenty of restaurants nearby to enjoy. We were very pleased with our stay.

A perfect oasis in the heart of the action.

  • 5 of 5

This property was perfect for our family. It is located in where many of the embassies are found, and those are always in the best neighborhoods anywhere in the world. The home is a 10 minute walk from the metro station and the park at DuPont Circle: close to cafes, restaurants, shopping and sites, yet is a quiet, safe haven at the end of the day. A charming, classic DC rowhouse, the apartment itself has everything a traveler needs for a comfortable stay, from the stocked kitchen to quality mattresses, linens and towels. Gloria was kind from booking to check-out, and enormously organized! We have already recommended this property to others.

Wonderful home in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a true Washington, DC experience, and this charming rowhome did the trick. From the quiet tree-lined street that is close to everything, to the urban chic décor and the relaxing screened in back porch. The home was as described and spotlessly clean and the owner was always quick to respond. We will stay here again.

Shabby chic WITHOUT the chic! Overpriced.

  • 1 of 5

First, notice the old upholstered chair and water-stained pattern dummy in the living room photograph. I sat in the chair and it felt bottomless, the seat is completely broken down. The entire house was furnished from second-hand stores and garage sales from the furniture to the silverware. Everything in this house is old and worn. The only skillet was an old cast iron one, not easy to clean after cooking eggs. The hair dryer was sticky and creepy and had to ask for another one. The dishwasher racks are rusted as the coatings have deteriorated. The air conditioners are window units and the unit at the master bedroom is inches from one's face and blows on you during humid and warm summer nights. The shower in the only bathroom is two feet wide and the shower drain is broken and slides around. The medicine cabinet is full of used toiletries, ie someone's used toothpaste, razors, pills, etc. The neighborhood is safe and the street is attractive and tree lined. The sheets and towels were clean. It's a little farther from the metro than we would have liked. A short walk to Starbucks however. Dupont Circle has great cosmopolitan energy. We planned our trip to DC on short notice to take our granddaughters to the Kennedy Center to see SOUND OF MUSIC. Not much was available in the way of a VRBO at the time. The owner made this sound better than it is. Overpriced. Would not come back. Two years ago we spent three weeks in a VRBO at Capitol Hill. It wasn't available this time, but was far better and fairly priced. I'm not one to write reviews, this is my first ever and have made effort to be objective and honest.

Owner's Response: Every year or so, I have a few guests who weren’t happy with their stay, and I always feel so bad about it. I try hard to describe my home through written word and photographs, as I don’t like surprises when I travel. And it because I am a frequent guest at vacation rentals myself that I have made it my mission to provide my guests five-star amenities; the same touches that I appreciate when I travel: lodging located in a gorgeous neighborhood, cleanliness, quality linens and towels, comfortable mattresses and wireless internet. With regard to Ms. W: I responded immediately to her calls, texts and emails, both before and during her stay. Still, I wish I could have described my home more clearly for her and her grandchildren, as it would've avoided disappointment on both our ends. To respond to her commentary: a. My home is furnished with vintage pieces found at estate sales and antique shops, including the decorative mannequin b. I cook with cast iron, which is why I have that type of skillet in my kitchen c. Ms. W wasn't aware that most people live in the vacation rentals that they offer to other travelers. Still, most closets and cabinets are free of belongings. That said, I do like to keep items left by other guests, as I find that many travelers appreciate not having to go to the market for stock items, like toothpaste, aspirin or flour d. As described, the DuPont Metro Station is just a few blocks away (0.4 miles)
