About David and Renee Miller
Hi there, we are David and Renee Miller and we love living in Central Montana! We were married in 1975 and moved to Harlowton in 1976. Renee started working at her career as a banker that year and David formed Miller Ranch the next year which is a family ranching partnership. Thirty-eight years later we still love living here on the ranch. We continue these responsibilities today as well as working other ventures and businesses. We are the parents of two grown children, have six grandchildren and have lived in our present home on the ranch since 1981. “The Barnsion' dream started in the fall of 2011. We are located in the heart of the BIG SKY country so we are close to the mountains, but love the Musselshell River Valley and the wide open spaces all in one place! We look forward to sharing the Barnsion with you, as you experience your own time under the big skies of Montana, where clean air, bright stars and that wild west adventure await you! Although we work very hard at business, we know that faith, family, friends, and fellowship are our priorities of life. 'As we age' it seems more important to live and eat healthy. Part of the master plan is to build a greenhouse that can be heated year around and provide fresh vegetables for ourselves and guests. The compost is on site and the power, water, and heat tubing have been run underground in preparation for this exciting project. A riding arena is also planned where guests can spend time exercising or training their horse or warming them up before going on a trail ride.
Why David and Renee Miller chose Harlowton
The original idea for the 'Barnsion' came at 3:00 am in the morning while visiting relatives in Idaho. I drew a sketch of the external view of the building, as I saw it, and started dreaming about exactly how to build the structure and eventually settling on a proposed floor plan. Several tried to discourage me and stated 'What in the world are you doing building a giant box out here?' and another comment was 'You have really gone crazy now'. I must say I understand more what Noah must have gone through when the Lord told him to build the 'Ark'. The world renowned architects and draftsmen and their plans were left out and small sketches proved to be enough for the talented builders we had. When you put several creative people together, you come up with many good ideas. We are so grateful for everyone that helped us build this building and learned from everyone that helped us. We could not have accomplished this without you.
What makes this Barn unique
If you are willing to cook for yourself, you can enjoy all the benefits of the larger dude ranches at a fraction of the price. We have lots of options to accomodate a single person, a couple for a romantic weekend or enough room to accomocate up to 22 people for weddings, retreats or family reunions. If your plans include horses, you can bring your own horse who will have a place to stay as well. Everything in 'The Barnsion' is handmade, no factory look, totally unique! The atmosphere is laid back and peaceful here. No city traffic, sounds, or chaos here.

We were a group of 20 or so cyclists who were delighted both with the accommodations and with the good company for hosts, David and Renee. They gave us access to their BBQ and beautiful outdoor dining area and then added a generous meat dish to the evening.
We had a corporate meeting there this week. Excellent facility and well cared for. Very gracious hosts. Our group die was 12 and had plenty of room! Thanks!!!
Our family had a reunion at the Barnsion. The rental was beyond what we expected, very clean and the attention to detail in the accommodations was amazing. The setting is beautiful, peaceful and so relaxing! We were planning on leaving part of the time we were there and spending a day in Billings, but instead we decided to stay at the Barnsion and enjoy the rental as much as we could. The hosts, David and Renee, were wonderful and went above and beyond what we expected in accommodating us in this beautiful part of Montana. We have rented from VBRO several times before, but our overall experience with this rental was the best. Thanks David and Renee for a wonderful time!!!!
My family thoroughly enjoyed the “barn” – absolutely beautiful accommodations! The owners were gracious, even to seasoning and smoking our supper and then joining us for the meal. They made arrangements for horses and some mountain trail riding. The river is close by for fishing. Will be back again soon to enjoy your little piece of heaven on earth.
We went with extended family of 12. Very comfortable accommodations and grounds! We loved waking up to the sights and sounds of a working sheep ranch. We rode horses in the nearby wilderness and enjoyed a fine meal on their patio overlooking the ranch. Highly recommend!
Absolutely surpassed our expectations!
Four horse back riding friends met at The Barnsion for a weekend. Everything was impeccably clean, beautifully decorated, wonderfully furnished with everything we, and our horses, needed for a memorable time together. Generous hospitality, beautiful places to ride, spectacular scenery... We hope to get back again soon!
