About the property

Cozy one bedroom cottage on riverfront property on lovely Ware Neck.

Come and spend your vacation in this quiet, peaceful setting on the Ware River. The estate boasts 290 ft of shoreline. This charming and historic 2 story cottage sits on 7 acres located on the Ware Neck Peninsula. The cottage has hand hewn post and beam construction dating to approximately the 1790s. There are fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and on the front porch. Just in front of the cottage is the restored icehouse built in the late 18th century and used to store blocks of ice brought from up north by steamboats down the Chesapeake Bay. The water front is a short stroll and has a pier with a floating dock. This is a perfect spot for watching beautiful sunsets while enjoying a glass of wine, fishing, crabbing or launching your canoe or kayak. The Cottage is 70 min from Richmond or Norfolk, 2 hours from DC, 45 min from Williamsburg, 30 min from Yorktown and 20 minutes to the Arts community of Matthews. The cottage is beautiful, the grounds are beautiful, great place for a getaway!

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is beautiful, the grounds are beautiful and the hosts a very accommodating! This was a quite girls weekend and we loved the cottage with it's charming decorating. The kitchen garden (pictured) is lovely and a great place to sit and chat. The view of the water is zen and the sunset was well worth sitting in the cold.

Having said that the kitchen pots and pans in the cottage need replacing, we had a hard time finding a good pan to fry eggs in. And if you decide to build a fire fellow the instructions!

This is a great find and doesn't disappoint.

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you enjoyed the cottage and the grounds. I wish you had called me about the skillet. I could have told you where to look or would have gladly run one up from my kitchen. I found 2 skillets in the kitchen and admit that the nonstick surface on one had seen better days. I went out today and purchased some replacements. We appreciate when guests let us know when things are missing or broken so that we can replace them.

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

I had a great stay at this adorable cottage with my husband, two kids and cat. It was very well kept and a great location to all the local sights. The property was beautiful and we regret not having enough time to explore it to the fullest! It will give us a reason to return in the future.

Amazing, adorable!

Amazing, adorable cottage! My husband and I had such a relaxing weekend with our pup. It was so serene and peaceful. All the little touches were amazing- especially some homemade honey! We are already talking about our next stay there.

PS. Definitely check out the Dog and Oyster vineyard about a half hour away! Amazing wine and beautiful scenery!

Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying 4 nights at this quaint cottage while visiting the areas of Richmond, Williamsburg and Yorktown. Being VRBO owners ourselves, we are very particular when selecting the places we stay. Peg and John's place did not disappoint! It is immaculately maintained and beautifully furnished with many conveniences provided...paper goods, wood for the fireplace, coffee and filters, laundry, bath and dish soap, towels, etc. The grounds are gorgeous and the owners were very generous in sharing the property with us. Peg and John were very responsive to any questions we had and offered great suggestions on where to eat, but also respected our privacy. We were able to have our 7 year old golden retriever stay with us as the owners allow pets, but you would never know that any animals had been at the cottage as it was so clean. It was clear Peg and John wanted us to enjoy our stay and we absolutely did! We would highly recommend this cottage and hope we will be able to return in the future.
