About Shane and Amanda

Amanda and I have been visiting and enjoying all that Grand Lake has to offer for many years now. I grew up in Grand Lake and lived there for 18 years of my life. My family still resides in Grand Lake and Amanda and I visit as often as possible, especially during the summer months. Amanda and I currently reside in San Diego, CA and we manage our vacation rental that we have decided to call 'High Mountain Hideaway' ourselves.

Shane and Amanda purchased this condo in 2013

Why Shane and Amanda chose Rocky Mountain National Park

If you have ever visited Grand Lake before, or even if you haven't and this is your first visit, you will soon realize that Grand Lake is a very special and beautiful place. The way that the mountains, especially Mt. Baldy, surround and compliment the three lakes in the area is absolutely stunning! The slow pace of the goings-on and the deafening silence of the wilderness will leave an indelible impression. The sheer beauty of the wildlife that so amazingly mingles with the population is something to be seen. Growing up in Grand Lake, I often took these things for granted. Now that I no longer live in Grand Lake, I truly appreciate its real beauty and I enjoy sharing that with Amanda. We purchased High Mountain Hideaway so that we could always own a piece of Grand Lake and so that others could stay at our place and experience what it is that makes Grand Lake so special to them.

What makes this condo unique

Amanda and I purchased High Mountain Hideaway because of its rustic but modern, 'home-away-from-home' feel. The pine wood walls in the living room, the beautiful wood furniture, the tile work in the bathrooms, along with the black granite counter-tops in the kitchen, all contribute to the 'cabin in the woods' feel of the property. To add a personal touch, we have adorned all three rooms of High Mountain Hideaway with a wall-mount of a fish caught in waters near the area. The Mackinaw Trout in the living room was caught in Lake Granby, the Mackinaw Trout in the guest bedroom was caught in Grand Lake, and the Northern Pike in the master bedroom was caught in Stagecoach Reservoir near Steamboat Springs, CO. We have put much work and effort into creating the perfect vacation getaway for our guests. In addition, we are located on the first floor so climbing stairs is not required!

Clean, nice, needs some work

  • 3 of 5

The condo was clean nicely furnished nice dishes and silverware plenty of extras like condiments in the refrigerator cooking oil salt and pepper Etc. The tiles on the floor were loose none of the doors latch correctly and there was mold on the shower curtain. If some of these small items were repaired this would be a wonderful place. Overall we were very satisfied and would stay there again. One drawback that cannot be resolved his the fire station next door with Sirens blaring throughout the night. There was no air conditioning or ceiling fans we were unable to open the windows because of the sirens and it was very stuffy. Thank you

Owner's Response: We appreciate each and every review that we receive from our guests. We rely on our guest's feedback during their stay as well as the information contained in their reviews after their stay to continuously improve and maintain our condo rental for future guests. This information is invaluable and we appreciate it very much. With that being said, we would like to address the issues that were described by one of our recent guests. -We have become aware that some of the original tile work in the condo is coming loose due to heavy traffic. We plan to replace all of the carpeted areas with vinyl planking and all of the tiled areas with new tile later this year when the busy season ends. We look forward to this project as it will significantly enhance the look of the condo as well as make it more "durable" for our guests. -We are only aware of one door (the sliding glass door) in our condo that has a "latch mechanism." We will take a look at the door latch and assess whether or not it needs to be replaced as well. -Our guests reported that a shower curtain liner had mold on it. We have reported this to our cleaning service and the shower curtain liner will be replaced as soon as possible. -Our guests experienced some discomfort due to our condo not being equipped with air-conditioning. Due to the climate in Grand Lake, most houses and condominiums are only equipped with some kind of heating system. Our condo unit is like most others and is equipped with a boiler system that produces in-floor heat only. As such, we do not advertise that our condo unit is equipped with air-conditioning. -Our condo unit is located next to the Grand Lake Fire Department. Fire trucks and ambulance vehicles are housed there so it is very possible that sirens can/will be heard by our guests. We have never heard this complaint before from one of our valued guests so we believe that it is a very isolated occurrence. In fact, a great many of our past guests have noted how quiet our condo unit was during their stay. As we noted above, we value our guest's feedback and reviews. It is the only way that we can continue to provide a great place for our guests to stay during their visit to Grand Lake! We sincerely apologize for the above mentioned issues and we will continue to work hard at correcting them. Shane & Amanda

It was the perfect "home" away from home. Very clean, comfortable beds, great kitchen, and close to town. Couldn't have asked for more.

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

The condo is very nice and it is located very close to the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National park. The condo was clean and stocked nicely. The town of Long Lake is not a nice small town. I would recommend stopping to groceries somewhere else since the prices at the local store were very high.
