About the property

4 Bedroom, 3 Bath, Sleeps 9. Luxury mountain log home with views

Our 4-bedroom, 3-bath luxury log home has gorgeous views of the Spanish Peaks and the Sangre De Cristo mountains, and can sleep up to nine people. It is ideal for families or individuals who enjoy gracious mountain living.

Our home has 2,500 square feet of interior space and a 600-square foot deck decorated with rustic mountain charm. The master bedroom has a king bed and an ottoman sleeper. The two main floor bedrooms are equipped with a queen bed in one and a double bed in the other. The fourth bedroom, located on the lower level, has a queen bed and en-suite bath.

The gourmet kitchen includes granite counter-tops, custom cabinetry, gas range, and a walk-in pantry. The master bath has double sinks, granite counter-tops, a separate oversized shower and a luxurious oversized jetted bathtub. The main floor bathroom has a glass shower, and the lower level bathroom has tub.

The deck features an outdoor living/dining area with Weber Genesis grill and teak wood furniture with a separate sitting area and a table that seats 10. Whether you are enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning or grilling a feast, the deck is a lovely place to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

We have high speed wireless internet access. There is a large flat screen television in the master bedroom and another large flat screen in the lower level living area.

Located in the heart of the San Isabel National Forest, the home is perfectly located for a variety of winter and summer outdoor activities. Hiking, skiing, sledding, hunting, etc. are all possibilities as soon as you step out the front door since the home backs up to national forest land. Commanding views of the towering mountain ranges, dense forests and the ski resort appear from virtually every window. Shopping, concerts, great restaurants, mini golf, and other attractions are just a few minutes down the road in the Cuchara Village center. Colorado Highway 12, called 'The Highway of Legends' is just minutes from the house and is one of the most beautiful mountain passes in Colorado. The town of La Veta is about 20 minutes down the highway, and has lots of shopping, restaurants, as well as the best golf course in Southern Colorado.

Known for abundant wildlife, the area is great for leisurely hikes or mountain drives through the pine and aspen forests. Fishing and boating are available year round at Monument lake, North lake, and Lathrop State Park. Blue Lake and Bear Lake are about 5 miles from the home, and are considered two of the most pristine alpine lakes in the Sangre De Cristo mountains. If hiking is your passion, there are more than 30 miles of hiking trails accessible from the property that connect to Cuchara Village, Blue and Bear Lakes, and the Indian Creek trail network.

About Brian Risley

We are a Colorado Springs family who loves the outdoors. We enjoy hiking, boating, skiing, sledding and building snowmen. Our jobs keep us tied to the city, but the beauty of mountains has always called to us.

Brian Risley purchased this lodge in 2013

Why Brian Risley chose La Veta

Our family has always been drawn to the peace, serenity, and natural splendor that is the Cuchara Valley. Few places in Colorado can boast such diverse wildlife, spectacular geology, and pristine forests. So, of course, our home takes advantage of all theses things.

Clean, comfortable and well stocked.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful and relaxing time here for the weekend. Everything about the home was perfect. The large front deck was enjoyed most of the time and large living/dining area accommodated the 5 of us very well. Three folks could not make the trip. Only slight drawback is that the Summer Olympics started and there was no TV on the main level. No worries though as we ignored it and enjoyed each others company rather than being glued to the tube. Hope to be back next year. Thank you for offering your home to us!

The Crooked Aspen Lodge was ideally suited for our group of seven (three couples and a single). There was ample room for everyone to move about inside and outside on the amazing deck. The décor was cozy and the layout functional. More importantly, we each had our own private space when needed. We put the outdoor grill to work a couple of nights and cooked breakfast three days. Everything we needed for meal prep was available. The photos accurately reflect the ambiance of the home and the owners were extremely attentive to our questions. We highly recommend!

Beautiful home and location

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing weekend! This home is beautifully decorated and has everything you need for your stay. The area is gorgeous and we took advantage of walks in the neighborhood, hiking nearby and lunch followed by shopping in Cuchara. Our visit was just great and we look forward to visiting again!

Lovely Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

You will love to stay at this house. A newer house that is surrounded by the beauty that is Cuchara makes this home an unforgettable place to vacation. Fishing and hiking are not too far away. Downstairs was perfect for a movie night with the family and the kitchen made dinner prep super easy. You will not be dissappointed. We had a blast!
