About this property

Clean, Comfortable, Single-Story Cabin on Rushing Creek w/ Private Swim Pond

Enjoy the spectacular views of the beautiful Tusquittee Valley to and from this family-friendly retreat that is secluded, but not remote. It’s easy to find, but really hard to leave. Easy access (no scary drives) up a private graded gravel road. The creek and the pond are the story here; over 500 feet of cascading Compass Creek. The entire house is one-level just three steps above grade.

Relax in the front porch swing listening to the birds and rushing water, catch some sun in the meadow, or simply enjoy a cup of coffee on the back porch watching the resident kingfisher look for lunch in the crystal clear creek-fed pond just feet from the screened back porch. Small children love fishing for the small chub and tiny brown trout in the pond which is suitable for floating on a hot summer day. Or, try your luck fishing for native trout in the creek. As experienced fly fishermen know, they're elusive, but they're in there!

Enjoy preparing meals with your loved ones in the beautiful new well-equipped kitchen. Just about anything you'll need is here- from food processors to a stand mixer. Or grill out on the gas grill or fire pit grate.

If you're looking for a place to treat Nature Deficit Disorder, this is it! Unplug, unwind, and relax with family and friends.

If you choose to stay at home, you might enjoy the peace and quiet in front of the fire, a board game, or a movie on the Smart TV. The comfortably furnished central living area is cozy enough for two, yet spacious enough to accommodate large family gatherings.

If you choose to get out and explore, easy walking to moderately strenuous hiking is just outside the door on lovely wooded private roads and foot trails to N.C. and National Forest Lands. You can fish Compass Creek, nearby renowned Tusquittee Creek or canoe the nearby Hiawassee River. A good grocery store, golf courses and popular Lake Chatuge with beach-front picnic areas, playground and boat launches (rentals available) are just minutes away. Take a course at the John C. Campbell Folk School! Try your luck at the casino in Murphy. The area is also host to music and craft festivals throughout the year.

Clay County is a great base camp for a variety of memorable day trips: Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Joyce Kilmer National Forest, The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, rafting the Nantahalla, the Smoky Mountain Scenic Railway, etc. Tourist meccas Helen, GA, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, TN and Cherokee Casino are all within a 1-2 hour drive.

Bikers love the scenic and well-maintained roads of Clay County and the famed 'Tail of the Dragon' is just an hour away. (The property has plenty of room for your toy trailer). Un-motorized mountain bikers will enjoy the nearby Jackrabbit Mountain trails that offer a variety of trails of varying challenge levels.

Other rental properties within walking distance make this an ideal location for family reunions. Great for when you want to be close to friends and family, but not necessarily under the same roof... (Contact information available.)

Each week of spring brings new flowers to bloom (Rhododendron Festival in mid-May). Summers are cool and relaxing. Autumn leaf-peeping is a wonder. Winters are generally moderate and always peaceful.

Everything you need is right here at your new 'home away from home'. Once you’ve experienced Compass Creek, you’ll want to return time and again.

You just won't find a better Smoky Mountain vacation bargain!

Scattering Joy
Tracey & Gary were very quick to respond anytime I had a question and they have thought of everything when it comes to their property. The home is clean and comfortable, as well as warm and welcoming. The property is a beautiful escape from the hustle and the bustle of everyday modern life. My family thoroughly enjoyed our week there unplugging from the daily grind and reconnecting with eachother. We made so many beautiful memories playing games, fishing and exploring everything we could. We all definitely recommend staying here! Tracey & Gary scattered joy in our lives and hearts by sharing their home with us! 😍

Operation Family Reconnect
This place is truly a gem! We throughly enjoyed our stay. Our kids (ages 12 and 9) are in year round sports. Our weekends are packed full. We were looking for a place to disconnect from our “normal” and reconnect as a family. The sound of the rushing creek reminded you to breath, the easy going lifestyle of the mountains reminded you to relax, and the time spent and memories made reminded us that the kids are only this age once and to enjoy life in this chapter we are in. It’s just what we needed. Thank you Gary and Tracy for sharing your home, we can now see why you love it so much also.

Magical experience
If I could give 10 stars ⭐️ I would. From the layout to the easy access to enter the home thru the garage, especially to load and unload belongings. The fully stocked kitchen and when I say stocked I mean it has everything you can possibly need. The home was Exceptionally clean and organized. The screened in porch was my favorite with the sound of the creek being so beautiful and relaxing as well as view of the pond. The crackling of the fire pit transported me to a simpler time as a child camping with family. We saw deer, hummingbirds fireflies and herd nothing but nature. The hosts were extremely accessible and even went out of their way to let us know what was happening in the area if we wanted to go check out the town. Already planning our next trip….! Looking forward to returning…❤️

A lovely place.
I loved the kitchen, it was updated nicely. The screened back porch was a joy to sit on. All the bed were very comfortable. We enjoyed sitting by the creek watching a fire. We were all happy staying there.

Why they chose this property

When looking for a lot in the area for a "someday, maybe" place to retire, we kept being drawn up Compass Creek. This home was situated on three very special creek front lots. Initially we were going to sell the house and keep a lot, but after staying on the creek, we just couldn't bring ourselves to part with it. We can't be here all the time, so we're happy to share it with nature-loving families looking for a great, affordable holiday.
