About John and Jani Meuchel
John and I grew up in the beautiful Bitterroot Valley and it will be our home forever. The saying, 'there's no place like home' is so true and we feel so blessed to live in such an amazing area.
John and Jani Meuchel purchased this House in 1946
Why John and Jani Meuchel chose Hamilton
My dad moved to this property as a boy when the neighbors in town complained of 'too many hound dogs'. He purchased the ranch from his parents in 1965 and my grandmother continued to live in this house for many years. We thought that many guests would enjoy the beautiful scenery and tranquility of the ranch that I was blessed to enjoy as a child.
What makes this House unique
This home was built in 1939 and is located on a working ranch and the views from the large living room windows are incredible. You'll enjoy many of the original features of this home. One of the many attractions is the fishing access right out the front door and you will love the gazebo right on the river's edge.

Great house, great hosts, great views.
Don't pass this one up. John and Jani are great hosts. The house is very comfortable and the amenities are many. The gazebo is a wonderful place for relaxing in sight of the Bitterroot River. And hearing the river is grand.
Right on the river and minutes from town
Jani and Jon have brought this 1930's ranch house to life with all the amenities of modern appliances, while retaining the qualities and exterior of the beautiful restored stucco home. The property is only a few minutes walk to fantastic fishing on the Bitterroot river. There's a gazebo just outside the lush lawn gate that provides beautiful views of the river. We spent a lot of evenings admiring the wildlife and the river. Ospreys, eagles, deer, squirrels, chipmunks, and many songbird species call this place home. It's peaceful, just a few minutes to Darby or Hamilton if you'd like to eat out or forgot something in your bags. Our hosts were friendly and came by the property to welcome us our first night and give us tips on where to visit during our trip. We'll be back!
Wonderful and peaceful location!
John and Jani were wonderful hosts always quick with communication and very hospitable. The house was clean and the property was amazing! Thanks for making our stay so great!
Great location and all appliances are brand new and high quality. Very clean and comfortable.
Beautiful setting along the river. Very comfortable home. Enjoyed feeding and riding the horses on the ranch. Saw a lot of deer along Old Darby Road.
Will be back again.
Unbelievable family vacation!
John and Jani have done an exceptional job making Grandma's house a perfect location for respite, peace, and family time. We took our children here for over 2 weeks to enjoy fly fishing, horseback riding, and being together away from our hectic lives, and my did Grandma's house not disappoint. John and Jani made sure to add to our stay and went so above and beyond for us--from suggesting places to go, hitching up a team of horses and taking us on a wagon ride, shuttling us to a tubing spot, loaning us tubes and life jackets, lettting our kids ride the horses on the ranch--they made our memories so much greater because of their attention to detail and willingness to go out of their way to ensure our enjoyment. The house is perfectly located for exploring the Bitterroot Valley, the decor is wonderful, the beds comfortable, and it truly does offer peace and quiet along the river--we enjoyed the horses immensely and spent many an afternoon in the gazebo and an evening around the firepit. Thanks John and Jani for offering Grandma's house to travellers. Our family shall NEVER forget it.
