Marcell Lodge is the newest lodging opportunity in the Edge of the Wilderness area and is located on Ranier Lake. The Marcell Lodge is a recently restored 2,500 sq ft 4 bedroom, 2 bath log cabin that is on the National Register of Historic Places. This unique, elegant, and beautiful lodge has a full kitchen, air conditioning, 3 levels, large indoor porch, private dock, swimming area, 2 bathrooms, laundry machines, and a very large great room! The Lodge is in a private setting but is located on the site of the Edge of the Wilderness Discovery Center so you are in close walking distance from a picnic shelter, interpretive trail, other historic buildings, a fishing pier, outdoor amphitheater, and the Discovery Center itself which includes modern interpretive displays, a gift shop, and environmental education programs throughout the summer. The Marcell Lodge also connects to the sidewalk system which leads to various businesses in Marcell and the Marcell Recreation Area which has a playground, tennis courts, and a paved trail.

Wonderful weekend

Stayed here during the President's Day weekend and our group thought the place was great. Lots of space, for cooking, gathering, reading, knitting, card games and puzzles.

We will definitely be back.

Great for family gathering

We arrived for our Christmas at the Lodge and found a Christmas tree and other holiday decorations. Nice touch. Even though the weather was bitter cold, it was toasty warm inside thanks to the modern HVAC system.

All amenities were in top condition and like new. We had everything we needed to prep our Christmas Eve feast. Hot water was plentiful and plenty of towels for the 10 of us. The RO water system is great to ensure the water is pristine and is available in all bathrooms and the kitchen.

It's difficult to find adequate space for family gatherings, but this fit the bill perfectly for our 4 generations. We would love to come back in the summer.

Beautiful setting, historic log cabin, felt like a true winter getaway

This was exactly what we needed to get out and enjoy a Minnesota winter as a family! On a lake for ice fishing, on snowmobile trails, gorgeous setting for snowshoeing, fire pit for outdoor warmth all of this in one tranquil place! The cabin is beautiful, historic and yet also updated, including a fully stocked (with all dishes, etc) kitchen. Plus this place was immaculately clean! We loved this as a winter getaway!

Beautiful location, disappointing interior

For the location and the feeling of being in the wild outdoors, you really can't beat Marcell Lodge. We loved the lake and the boats and sitting outside in the evenings. However, the inside is very dark with poor natural light. We also found the kitchen lacking a few basics- for example we had to go out and but wine glasses and the overall glass and mug provision was inadequate for 10 of us. Overall, we had a great time, but the lodge could do with some updating and replenishing in the kitchen.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. We take reviews constructively and accepted your suggestion and will have some wine glasses available for future guests. Please keep in mind that the Lodge is on the National Register of Historic Places and was built in 1935 and went through very extensive upgrades and updates in 2014 that had to meet special criteria and most guests have been extremely complimentary about the interior and updated amenities of this unique and elegant historic building.
