Quintessential Malibu lifestyle, truly living the dream.
About Katherine VandeVoort
My grandfather built the house 'Eagle's Watch', that was designed by legendary architect Harry Gesner, so I take great pride in the home and take pleasure in others being able to enjoy such a marvelous location. I have been living in Malibu for 10 years, now with my husband and 3 children. My husband and I manage rental properties, we take pride in our properties and are responsive to any of our renters needs. Since we are local, we deal with our guests directly – from key exchanges, to cleaning, to repairs, and anything in between. All of our properties are fully furnished and have all the luxuries of home! We also have great local tips to help you make the best of your stay.

Why Katherine VandeVoort chose Eastern Malibu
Eagles Watch has become a famous Malibu landmark that is impossible to miss while driving along Pacific Coast Highway. Built by the late Orlando J. Aliberti and designed by the famous Architect Harry Gesner, both brilliant men with visionary thinking. Seen jetting out from the hillside, above La Costa beach, this house is often referred to as the 'boat House', the 'Viking House' or the 'Pagoda House', but Harry Gesner named the original built in 1955 'Eagle's Watch' due to the incredible 360 degree views of Malibu’s most jaw dropping canyons and seascapes. A cast bronze eagle sculpture is installed on the outer point of the property to commemorate the name of the house. Unlike the properties on the beachfront, Eagle’s Watch has the best panoramic view in Malibu from Santa Monica pier to Catalina to Malibu pier and Point Dume; the view in every direction is simply stunning. Although the silhouette of the structure is initially most striking, this house is filled with unique design features. One theme throughout the home is the opulent use of rare granite and marble imported from Italy, covering some bathrooms from the floor to ceiling as well as being used in the large, gourmet kitchen and around the two fireplaces. Hardwood floors with decorative inlay work are used throughout the home. Another truly unique feature is the 180-foot incline private elevator or funicular. Also imported from Italy, this glass funicular gracefully takes you from street level to high above the rest of the homes where you are quietly isolated on the beautiful ridge-top.
What makes this Villa unique
The view from Eagle's watch is difficult to put in words, and even photos don't do it justice. Every room and every side of the house have panoramic views with no obstructions. The patios and lawn area that surround the house each have a special vantage point of Malibu. Glass railings along the front of the house assure that the ocean view is clear. A dramatic waterfall welcomes you as you exit the funicular and accents the back patio and outdoor cooking area. High ceilings and large windows maximize the views from inside the house. The location of this home makes it highly desirable as well. It is 8 mile from Santa Monica, 3 miles to the large shopping area in Malibu, walking distance to the beach and a handful of delicious restaurants, and the Post Office is a block away as well. It's the perfect balance of serenity and civilization. Malibu (/ˈmælɨbuː/) is an affluent beach city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 12,645. Malibu consists of a 21-mile (34 km) strip of prime Pacific coastline. Nicknamed 'the 'Bu' by surfers and locals, the community is famous for its warm, sandy beaches, and for being the home of many Hollywood movie stars and others associated with the entertainment industry. Signs around the city proclaim '27 miles of scenic beauty', referring to Malibu's original length of 27 miles (43 km) before the city was incorporated in 1991. Malibu's beaches include Surfrider Beach, Zuma Beach, Malibu Beach, Topanga Beach, Point Dume Beach and Dan Blocker Beach; its local parks include Malibu Bluffs Park (formerly Malibu Bluffs State Park), Trancas Canyon Park, Las Flores Creek Park, and Legacy Park, with neighboring parks Malibu Creek State Park, Leo Carrillo State Beach and Park, Point Mugu State Park, and the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, and better known as pristine beaches, El Pescador, La Piedra and El Matador.

Unique house set on the Malibu Cliffs with amazing 360 degree views. Very comfortable and in good condition. Excellent restaurants and shopping nearby. Family that own the house live next door and are extremely attentive to any needs. Highly recommended.
Breathtaking first time Malibu experience
Eagles Watch was one of the most spectacular views we have ever experienced. The 360 degree views were all unique. Found ourselves just lounging and enjoying the views, listening to the crashing of waves or watching dolphins swimming in the ocean. Such a great way to relax for a vacation.
The host Katherine and Rory were super. And chef Sara cooking a superb meal in house for our family was a highlight. Would highly recommend this experience
This is an extraordinary property. The views and architecture are magnificent. The location is wonderful. There are many areas, inside and out, to congregate and enjoy the view. The rooms are large, attractive and comfortable. The kitchen is very well stocked and beautiful, in its own right.
One note of caution - this very special property is not well suited for those with physical limitations. Access is through a European style “tram” or a fairly demanding series of stairs. You needn’t be an athlete, but you need to be able to walk up and down stairs with comfort.
Other than that, be prepared to be wowed. There is not a room or a window that doesn’t provide a view of beauty - whether imported marble or beautiful hills or the vast Pacific.
Our ladies only birthday celebration was unforgettable - not only because of the company, but because of the impressive, extraordinary house. We loved just being there.
Perfect Stay in Perfect Malibu House
I had my bachelorette party at Eagle's Watch and it was just perfect. Katherine is a very generous and communicative host who made sure my group was taken care of, her husband helped us out majorly with our luggage, and she left some amazing treats for us for our celebrations that weekend. Couldn't recommend Katherine and this property enough, hope to stay here again in the near future!
My colleagues and I stayed at the Eagle's Watch while we attended a conference at Pepperdine University. It was such a welcome place to come home to after a long day. A place to relax and enjoy the amazing beauty of the place. Katherine could not have been more hospitable. She welcomed us and made us feel completely at home. All-in-all - a lovely stay and we will be back again!
The views are amazing, and owners were helpful!!
My family and I enjoyed our stay very much!!! The house is spacious and the views from everywhere are incredible, just like on the pictures. The AC upstairs and downstairs were not functioning, but the owner took care of it... it got repaired after two days.... upstairs without AC can be very warm!! Location is amazing too, close to everything. The Venicular to get up and down to the top of the house, broke in the last couple days of our stay there, so for us going up and down the stairs ( there’s many flights of stairs to get up there) was a workout for us and my kids.... but for my mom, it was not ideal ( and groceries too...). But the owners were very sorry and tried to accommodate us as much as they could!!! Overall, we enjoyed the al fresco dinner that we did outside, we also enjoyed the privacy and spectacular views....
Fun things to do in Malibu include relaxing at the beach, surf lessons, paddle board lessons, guided hiking tours, visiting local wineries, horseback riding, golfing. Malibu has many amazing restaurants, tell me what you like and I will give you my local recommendation.
