We bought this 1948 home in December 2013. We renovated the downstairs apartment and rented it right away. Then we decided to renovate and furnish the upstairs apartment for vacation travelers to Lexington. It is really pretty and close to Lexington's growing downtown scene. In fact, it is only steps away from Jefferson Street, Lexington's newest entertainment district, with bars, a brewery, restaurants and an upscale wine bar.
This vacation rental is run by two sisters. Teri lives just seven houses away in an 1890's Victorian. Delena lives in Austin, Tx, where she works as a recruiter. We were both born in Kentucky and grew up on Lexington's north side. We, along with Teri's husband, Chris, have recently become involved in the development of the Distillery District by purchasing the abandoned James Pepper Distillery. We are currently building Goodfella's Pizza a space in the old Boiler House, and will be starting on the NEW James Pepper Distillery in December.
We have recently become dismayed at reports that hotels are only giving their housekeepers 15-20 minutes to clean a room. This is NOT enough time. Two of always spend at least two hours cleaning between guests. The report even showed that sheets are not being changed between guests. Oh my. We very much want to assure anyone who rents our properties that every bed is changed between every guest...even if it appears not to have been used. Every. SIngle. Time. Exactly like we would expect when we rent from others.
Teri Kelly purchased this apartment in 2013
The home is located in Lexington's second and largest neighborhood on beautiful West 3rd Street. The neighborhood has undergone a transformation in recent years while maintaining it's historic charm. There are many restaurants, breweries, bars and shops opening throughout.
We have a heart for historic preservation (this is our ninth renovation) in downtown Lexington and this is our first short-term rental. We are excited to meet the guests who visit our charming and comfy apartment and welcome them to our hometown.
The garden is incredible. Not being talented gardeners ourselves, we feel incredibly lucky that a landscape architect rented one of the apartments for several years before we bought the house in December, 2013. He spent several thousand hours and hundreds of dollars creating an English garden of winding paths and full, lush beds. It is peaceful and a piece of paradise right downtown. All we had to do was dig it since he had moved out and it was neglected for several years.
The furnishings have been culled from area estate sales over the past year. The resulting look is a contemporary renovation, with vintage furnishings.
Teri and her husband have spent a few nights there when their own home is rented, and have absolutely loved it. We are confident our guests will too!
Judith was a fabulous guest. The apartment was in good hands and I love the way she really dove into seeing as much of Lexington as possible, because I am proud of my hometown and love to share it. VRBO is a perfect means of doing this, plus I get to refurbish old houses which is my first love. It also helps me to meet the nicest people!
I highly recommend an automatic accept if you are lucky enough to have Judith interested in your property.
This apartment was perfect for our stay during USEF Pony Finals at the Kentucky Horse Park. The location was great and the apartment had everything we needed. It was a great place to relax after our long days at the Horse Park.
We had a wonderful stay in this lovely upstairs apartment in Lexington. We would have loved to stay several more days. The apartment was so sweet and just the amount of space we needed. You are never sure in an older home exactly what you will find, but everything had been updated and the space was very clean and cozy!! Thanks so much for the hospitality!!
This was a great property. Very clean and had everything we needed for a great getaway. It is really close to many cool local attractions. Many great restaurants and Distilleries. Terri was great to suggest local places that made the visit so much more interesting. We will keep this on our list to come back to again. Thanks for the great stay!
Great location. Several good restaurants and bars within a couple of blocks. Convenient to downtown. Stayed for a week and made day trips on a motorcycle to surrounding towns. A couple of days were spent exploring Lexington. Needed another week. Would stay here again.
Stayed here while visiting daughter at UK. It was a convenient location and nicely appointed. Fit our needs for a long weekend
My friend and I really enjoyed staying at this cute Lexington apartment. The neighborhood is charming and the rooms were really quaint and comfortable. We live in the country and suburbs in AZ, so it was nice to have a change of pace.
The property is conveniently located within walking distance of all of Lexington's downtown attractions including Rupp Arena, restaurants, shopping and the Explorium of Lexington (Lexington Children's Museum). An easy two block walk gets you to Jefferson Street, a renovated entertainment district of bars, breweries and restaurants. Or, visitors could make a quick 7-10 minute drive to the up-and-coming Distillery District, Lexington's newest entertainment district.
If you're headed to the Kentucky Horse Park, it's only 9 miles and 15-20 minute drive.
