About Mary and Frank Middleton

We met while attending Guilford College in North Carolina. After many years in Charleston, South Carolina, we were ready to make Maine our home. Each year we would drive up the coast to visit friends in Maine and get a taste of fall and a reprieve from the heat. After 7+ annual visits we were ready to take the plunge and relocate our family. In 2012, we bought our Mountain Street home and have enjoyed every season since.

Mary and Frank Middleton purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Mary and Frank Middleton chose Camden

When we saw the house it was perfect: there was no barn (so a clean slate for us to build something to make our own) and the house was close to town AND hiking and running trails. Frank has spent the last year and a half building the barn and finishing out the apartment above. We are working to improve the house as well, breathing new life into a 150 year old farm house.

What makes this apartment unique

After living on a rural island in South Carolina, Mary was ready to live closer to town, but not in town. Mountain Street is the perfect combination of proximity to town, yet with enough yard to feel like we live in the country. We can walk across the street and climb to the top of Mt. Battie or the Tablelands. We can walk an easy mile into town (even the kids can do it!) to visit the library, get coffee or a great meal and sit by the waterfront. It has been a fantastic location for our family.

A spacious and comfortable apartment!

  • 4 of 5

A very spacious, well equipped and comfortable apartment. If you wanted to cook, you had everything you needed but there are some great places to eat in town. Mary was a welcoming and helpful host. Location was good, just a short drive into the town centre where parking was easy and right next to the Camden Hills State park where there were some excellent hikes and walks with great views over the harbour. Having a washing machine and dryer in the apartment was fantastic. We really appreciated being able to spread out in comfort after being on the road and in hotel rooms for some weeks.

Bright upstairs apartment

  • 5 of 5

The second floor apartment was bright and well equipped; everything in the kitchen that could be required was present, comfortable places to sit, separate sleeping areas...

Mary was pleasant and helpful throughout the process.

The location was a longish walk or quick drive to Camden.

The only problem we had was that our first night there was quite hot so we opened the bedroom window which is at the front of the apartment -unfortunately that particular night there seemed to be a lot of traffic noise! With the window closed the following cooler night there was no noise problem; and this possibility should soon be alleviated as a cooling unit was in the room but not yet vented for use.

Fully recommend this homestay.

Practically perfect in every way

  • 5 of 5

We were in town for a wedding so we spent most of our time doing wedding related activities, but we both wished we could have been at the apartment more. We actually jogged into town on Saturday morning and ate breakfast at the cutest little spot on the waterfall.

We have stayed in our fair share of homes and it's always evident when the owners really care. Everything was spotless. The apartment is big, bright and airy. The new elements combined with the rustic charm are so lovely. Everything you could need is there. They even had paper products and some snacks in the fridge/freezer in case you can't get to supermarket right away when you arrive. So thoughtful and appreciated.

If we ever find ourselves in Camden again- we will be staying here (for half the price of the hotels 1 mile away).

Thank you for the lovely stay!

Great Space and Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

This apartment was the perfect space for my husband, daughter and I to spend the weekend visiting a friend. The apartment was spacious, clean, bright, modern and fully equipped. Mary and Frank were wonderful and available if we needed anything. The location is fantastic -- we were able to walk downtown to explore the shops and restaurants in one direction and then if we went the other direction we could explore the trails and sights of Mt. Battie. Wish we had been able to stay longer; hope to return in a few months and will definitely try to stay in this adorable apartment again!

Very happy with apartment!

  • 5 of 5

Mary and Frank are very nice. We enjoyed our stay in their apartment. The hike up Mount Battie was easy and also easy to get to, just a short walk down the street, and was beautiful at the top. Camden downtown is only a mile away, enjoyed going there a lot.

Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this great apartment for two weeks. It was new, bright, roomy, and well-appointed. it is in a convenient location-only a few minutes by car to downtown Camden. The owners live next door and are a delightful couple. They were extremely helpful regarding restaurants and places to visit during our stay. We can highly recommend this rental.
