About Bob Hill - Owner
My wife and I are outdoor enthusiasts and active hikers, bikers, and skiers. We enjoy spending time with friends and family and plan to organize some great vacations in Tahoe. Our 10 year plan is to retire and live in the home.
Bob Hill - Owner purchased this House in 2014
Why Bob Hill - Owner chose North Upper Truckee
South Lake Tahoe is one of our favorite places, besides being the place we got engaged it also offers an incredible variety of area attractions, from the natural beauty of Emerald Bay to the nightlife and shows at the casinos, all within a 15 minute drive. We bought this home as a future place to retire, so a quiet setting in a great neighborhood was very important to us. The home itself is located towards the end of a cul-de-sac on a lightly traveled street, with many of the lots under protection from the California conservancy (basically undeveloped/natural areas). The home also backs directly to the national forest and is a short 5 minute walk through the trees to the Upper Truckee river, which is absolutely beautiful and has great hiking/biking trails just alongside. The neighborhood is on virtually flat land, which becomes more important after a heavy snowfall , and both front and back yards are only slightly sloped and offer a great place for relaxing and outdoor entertainment. We love this place and we hope you will too.
What makes this House unique
We saw a lot of very nice properties during our search but there were probably 3 or 4 things that really made this one stand out. Probably the biggest single factor was the location. Having a home that backed to national forest where we could walk out the back door, through the back yard and forest to the river in just a few minutes was really amazing. We know it's not our land..but it sure feels like it when we're back there hiking around. Privacy was another important factor. We like having neighbors, but don't want to stand on the back deck and look into their back yard, or worse. This home sits back from the street further than the home to our right, to our left is a conservancy lot, and behind is the forest, so when you're out on the deck or in the hot tub, the view is forest and sky. Very relaxing. And finally the home itself, we wanted an open style home with lots of windows and second floor living. This quality home was built by an excellent area builder and has a master bedroom/bath, 2nd bedroom, laundry room and guest bath (w/shower) all on the main floor in addition to a large and inviting living/dining/kitchen great room with a beautiful river rock fireplace, a back wall full of windows, and a huge upper deck.

A very nice place. I would highly recommend. The owner is amazing.
This is our second Thanksgiving here with our family. I would highly recommend it. It is very roomy and comfortable for our 6 adults and 3 teenagers.
The house is the best stocked home as far as things you might have forgotten for the pantry. It also has a well- equipped kitchen; except for an electric mixer.
Thanks for the great review! We're glad you guys had a nice stay. Good suggestion on the mixer...you're the first to mention it. We'll grab one and bring it up next visit. Thanks again and hope to see you back again soon!
We come back every year
This is the fourth year we've stayed here which is the highest praise I can give (we plan on coming back again). Beautiful home in an amazing location. Very comfortable for 2 families. Bob and Jun are amazing hosts.
Thanks, Chuck, for the great review. Glad to have you guys back again and look forward to next year!
Well kept and managed home.
Quiet and away from traffic but close enough to enjoy all of Tahoe’s amenities. Clean and quiet. Bed set-up favors two couples and kids.
Thanks, Brian, for the great review. We're glad you enjoyed your stay and we hope to welcome you back again soon.
Beautiful home and neighborhood. Spent the day at the river which is just a few minutes walk. Attention to detail from property owner made for an easy weekend.
Thanks, Tisha, for the nice review. Glad you guys enjoyed the weekend and we hope to see you back again soon.
Awesome Home in an Awesome Setting
We have used Home Away for numerous vacations in a lot of areas. Without any reservation I can say that this home was so well stocked with all the things we have in our own home that there was literally nothing but our food to purchase. There were instructions for use of everything conveniently located where you could find them. The house is well laid out, big screen TV wth cable , wi fi, DVD , phone....everything youd need for entertainment. Great hot tub overlooking a beautiful pine forest right near the Trukee river. We did numerous hikes back to the river an well a many road trips to nearby majestic forests and mountains. Bob was incredible and answered texts in less than an hour. Our coffee maker quit working and a new replacement was at the front door the next day. He helped us plan excursions and was SO caring and responsive. Thanks Bob for sharing your home and giving us memories we will never forget. GREAT house and GREAT location. We'll be back!!
Thanks, Tom, for the great review. We do our best to make sure our guests have a great stay. We look forward to welcoming you guys back soon!
We had a great time at the house and the surrounding area! Bbq on the deck with relaxing outside furniture was a great time. I highly recommend this property!
Thanks, Mark, for the great review! We're glad you guys enjoyed your stay and hope you'll visit again soon.
Skiing and fishing. Bike trails and baccarat. Ice skating and fine dining. Whatever your passion South Lake Tahoe is a great place to vacation.
Welcome to a place with enough around-the-clock awesomeness to keep you playing all day and partying all night, all on the shore of the largest alpine lake in North America - Lake Tahoe. With its clear water surrounded by the majestic Sierra Nevada, jaw-dropping vistas, stately groves of pines, and gorgeous sunsets, Lake Tahoe is an alpine paradise.
Home Proximity to area attractions:
Heavenly Ski Resort (California Base) 8 miles
Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Resort 7 miles
Lake Tahoe 8 miles
Stateline Casinos 10 miles
The property itself is conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood away from the crowds but within a 10-15 minute drive of area attractions (skiing, lake, golf, casinos, shopping + restaurants). The home backs directly to the national forest and one of the first things we'd recommend is a short 5 minute hike down to the river. It's absolutely beautiful and the trails alongside stretch for miles and miles into Washoe State Park. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as martens, coyotes and the occasional black bear (no grizzlies in the area).
We'd also recommend checking out Emerald Bay and D.L. Bliss State Parks. Eagle Falls at Emerald Bay is a great easy hike and offers the opportunity to continue hiking up to Eagle Lake and even beyond into Desolation Wilderness for the more adventurous. Keep an eye out for soaring Ospreys and Bald Eagles during winter months at Emerald Bay. For those that like fly fishing, the Truckee river offers some fun practice but the really good fishing is nearby on the Carson river.
