Centrally located one block off of Hwy 12 and just 8 blocks from downtown and the beach, The Surf House is walking distance to everything! Leading edge technology with nostalgic charm, The Surf House is ideal for everyone, this home is decorated in hues of blues, greens and tans reminiscent of the shores of Lake Michigan. Three spacious bedrooms, a charming loft with two twin beds, and two large bathrooms are filled with plush linens, pillows, rugs and towels. This house offers a beautiful blend of character and modern amenities from the cozy swing on the peaceful front porch to the fully equipped kitchen. Fourth bedroom loft offers two twin beds that may be converted to an additional king bed upon request and the living room has a queen-size sleeper sofa.

Located next door to Lookout Landing shops (with Song Asian Cuisine👍🏻) and Oink’s Ice cream, we are in the heart of Southwestern Michigan’s many water and land activities.

The Surf House is a casual stroll to all the quaint shops and eateries along Whittaker Street, the main road to New Buffalo Beach. A few blocks more takes you past the river harbor filled with the hustle and bustle of boating enthusiasts to the sandy beach on magnificent Lake Michigan. Beach towels, a children's wagon with two seats and a stroller are all available for your convenience.

The Surf House offers information on an abundance of local activities for adults as well as children of all ages. There are outdoor events like concerts, movies, a splash pad, basketball, skate boarding, organized Frisbee games, playgrounds, nature walks, hiking etc. Some folks are drawn to other local attractions like the several golf courses in the area, wine tastings and festivals at nearby wineries, live theater, the excitement of the Four Winds Casino or the Blue Chip Casino, or perhaps the sporting events at Notre Dame stadium (only 36 miles away).

In order to be your best home away from home, The Surf House has central heat and air conditioning, Comcast high speed internet and large flat screen TVs with DVD +/- Blue Ray players in every room (the loft does not have a dvd player).

Whatever your interest, or whatever the season, New Buffalo and The Surf House welcome you warmly and are ready to be your vacation destination.

Fall break in New Buffalo

We had a great time although the weather was rainy and windy. The home was clean and well stocked. I recommend running the dishwasher during the day because it is rather loud. Also more lamps in the living room would give the place a more homey feel. The bright lights were harsh. Oinks across the street was fun to visit.

Easy and as advertised

Our kids loved the loft (and the fact that the ice cream shop was a 1 minute walk). The adults loved the character of this house (and proximity to the sushi restaurant)! Bring only what is necessary - this house is close to dining, shopping (great grocery store - Barney's), and beach. We really enjoyed our time together at this house!

Long weekend getaway

We enjoyed our stay. House had everything we needed. It is a short drive or walk to restaurants, shops and ice cream shop is across the street!

Enjoyable weekend visit

We liked staying here short walk to get dinner or coffee. Ice cream was right across the street. Mostly clean - only complaint was trash outside was very full so it was difficult to throw what little we had. I know it was an old house w old plumbing but downstairs shower drain was very slow to drain. Enjoyed playing the games they had on hand.

Highly recommend

Great place in a great location. All the little touches really make a big difference. Toys for the kids, fully stocked kitchen to cook and BBQ, great porch to hang out on. We’ll definitely be back.

The Pokorny Family came to New Buffalo from Chicago in 1932. Gramp's blacksmith shop evolved over the years into a plumbing business. His son, Charles, eventually added a hardware store that grandson, Richard, later converted into The Lookout Landing shops. The Surf House is part of our family history and for many years was home to the "3rd Coast Surf Shop" , hence the name:)

Why they chose this property

In 1954, when the Village of New Buffalo Chamber of Commerce first began to improve the harbor, Charles Pokorny proposed the simultaneous development of the beach and park areas. In 1955, an official Park and Recreation Department was established and Charlie was asked to serve as New Buffalo's first Park Commissioner. His team built playground equipment from plumbing pipe, build picnic tables, initiated fireworks at the lake front, and brought about the return of concerts in the park. We love New Buffalo and want to share the joy and beauty with others.
