About Cynthia

My husband and I are flatlanders from Nebraska, but have always loved to ski--mostly in Colorado. When we retired we set out to find the perfect ski mountain. We visited different slopes in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.

Cynthia purchased this chalet in 2005

Why Cynthia chose Montana

Big Mountain caught our attention as we experienced excellent skiing with no lift lines, friendly folks, and the perfect chalet duplex right on the mountain.

We stay in the upstairs unit with our two hunting dogs, Stilton and Storm several weeks each season, renting it out when we are elsewhere along with the lower unit year-round.

What makes this chalet unique

We love sharing the experience of living in a private home on the mountain in walking distance to the village, the slopes and all the winter and summer activities. Come stay--you'll love it too!

Beautiful scenery and nice duplex with plenty of space.

We stayed here for a week and got to see a lot of the area. The house was comfortable and spacious. All in all a very good stay here.

Review would have been a 5 if not for a few things.

  • 3 of 5

My vacation to Glacier National Park would have been slightly better had I not had to keep inquiring to the owner via email about issues at this Chalet.

There is no air conditioning or fans. We were there at the hottest time of the year. The windows had no screens and there was a hornet nest under the upper deck.

I will say that Cynthia did respond to any concern we had within a day. On the third day of our 5 day stay, we had two new big floor fans waiting for us at the front door.

The gas grill was full of charcoal the first day we arrived, so we did not even use it. It is old and should be replaced. (You don't use Charcoal in a Gas grill). They probably should have both types or no grill at all. I would think having no grill would be better for a rental. Less liability. They should invest in a George Foreman for grilling. Those things work fine and fast for indoor grilling.

I would suggest the owner get more plates and bowls. Only 4 bowls and 8 big plates. For a family of 4 that is not enough, even with a dishwasher.

The beds were fine.

The master bedroom bathroom fan is extremely noisy. I saw a previous review about this and it is obviously not getting fixed.

The pictures I see now do not seem to reflect everything correctly. There is no TV in the Master Bedroom. There is a leather couch in the living room instead of the sectional.

The living room TV should be replaced. It is not digital, but an old tube tv. The DVD player is outdated too. For 40 bucks they could put one in that has HDMI. You cannot hook up a laptop to either the TV or DVD player because of no HDMI.

The Kitchen could use a liquid measuring cup. Otherwise it suited our needs.

Overall it was a nice place to stay. Just a little far from Glacier National Park. About 40 miles from the West Entrance.

Parking is steep.

Very convenient and met our needs! I would stay there again.

  • 4 of 5

Very convenient to area activities. 30 minutes from West Glacier. Whitefish is a charming resort area and only 10 minutes away. There was space for my 2 teenagers to "spread out", much better than a hotel room with 2 queen beds where there is no place for anyone to have some alone time. Owners were responsive, friendly and made sure we didn't have any questions before we arrived. I had no reason to contact them further during our stay. The house could use a bit of updating and TLC but we didn't spend much time there because we were on vacation and when you're on vacation, you don't sweat the small stuff.

The following items are simply my own personal preferences and should not discourage anyone from renting.

I prefer a flat screen TV instead of the older picture tube model, but it has DISH service. It would have been nice if each bedroom had it's own TV, there is only one unit in the main living area.

I prefer all sheets to be white so you know immediately if they are clean.

I prefer a Kurig coffee maker, not the drip pot.

I prefer tile over carpet. Much easier to clean tile, and you know it's clean. (bit of a musty smell when we first arrived that I think may have been due to the older carpet that is in the house.)

Toaster oven was a bit of a challenge, but then I'm not a toaster oven expert and for someone else it may work just fine.

I have renting several VRBO/HomeAway houses in the past, and this one was represented correctly on the website and I have no complaints. If you're looking for 3 bedroom place to stay and spread out, this works just fine. Happy vacationing!!

Great space!

While the mountain is pretty crowded, the rental itself was lovely - very comfortable, clean and roomy. We would stay again without question

Ski Chalet Whitefish Mountain

  • 4 of 5

We had an AWESOME vacation. The snow was epic in the mountains! We were so lucky to be here during this winter snow storm! This condo was everything we needed. Perfect location, all you have to do is walk up a hill and you are at a chairlift! Easy snow bus access if you don't want to drive or have a car to go into town. The owner was super helpful and responsive through the whole process! It is an older ski chalet, nothing fancy but has what you need. (although the grill was very dirty on the deck & it would have been nice to grill outside) We would love to come back - very affordable to be on the mountain! We come every year for 2 weeks. The house was clean, we had our quiet private relaxing time in the living room over fires, (when asked for more fire wood we were replenished) could cook meals in the fully stocked kitchen, enjoy a hot sauna (which we didn't even realize was there so a nice surprise) walk down the street to the village shops, the Stube bar, and could bring our 2 dogs along, etc. The neighbor of the condo was super friendly too. There are for sure things that could be done to fix the place up but we were there to ski and visit with friends, and to do so in an affordable pet friendly place. If you want a more modern place this isn't the one, but you will for sure not pay the same rates either! If you just want a place of comfort to visit and sleep in when you are done from all the fabulous outdoor activities Whitefish Mountain has to offer, then give it a try! The only negative feedback our group had was the beds - they are old and they could all use upgrading. It would be great to get more comfortable nights sleep...

Cost Effective Ski Trip in Cozy Chalet

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this cozy chalet on Whitefish Mountain. The Chair 3 lift is a short walk away and there are some really nice views of Whitefish Mountain from the dinning room window. We also took advantage of the fireplace and fully furnished kitchen.

This is not a fancy or modern ski lodge but it was clean and comfortable. The price made for a very cost effective ski trip and the Owner was very responsive to our questions. If you are looking for luxury this isn't the place, but if functional and cost effective are words you live by, search no further.

Our group had 4 adults an infant and two dogs and we had more than enough space. The TV is outdated and the grill needed cleaning would be two drawbacks to this chalet but otherwise it was perfect for our trip.
