About this property

Escape to the French countryside, an hour to Bordeaux, 20 minutes to St Emilion

For your holiday totally relax and unwind by choosing our beautifully appointed traditional character gite with home comforts, set within a secluded, yet wide open countryside setting, totally private and not overlooked. There is also a large pool with covered abri which you will have to yourselves (we do use it, but not when you are!)
Remember you do not have to book Saturday to Saturday which enables you to find the best value flights and ferries.
We are only forty minutes easy scenic drive from Bergerac airport, or, of course, an hour from Bordeaux's merignac airport. We are a stunning twenty minute drive from beautiful St Emilion.
We do not have multiple rental units!
We also try our very best to provide a comfortable, relaxing feel to make our guests immediately at home, having come from the city ourselves we know how wonderful it is is to be able to switch off straight away and breathe a sigh of relief!
You will have a triple aspect living room with a fully equipped kitchen, corner sofa, two sets of full sized patio doors and further window, television receiving English TV and a small dining table.
Each set of patio doors leads onto its own arbour covered patio with table and sun loungers with open and uninterrupted country views all around (the first thing you feel when you arrive is the wide open space around you and you are not overlooked by any other dwelling).
A hall lobby then leads to your generously sized bathroom with a large shower, WC and vanity basin unit. This is also where you will find the automatic washing machine.
Then to a lovely double aspect cottaged bedroom where the ceilings slope up high giving loads of character and where people say they sleep so well in the king sized bed with soft smooth bed linens. Obviously a wardrobe, chest of drawers bed side tables, lamps and blanket chest. Two sets of windows. Hair drier, bedside fans and room fan. You only have to ask if here is anything else you want, do not hesitate.
The pool is available to you at all times and you will swim looking out onto the tranquil country scene, hearing the buzzards, kites and kestrels wheeling overhead.
We can help you source pretty much any services or activities you would like, from golf at the stunning St Emmilionais golf course just eight miles away (rated 7th best course in the whole of France) through to massage or pedicures come to you, wine tours and gourmet experiences, we have no less than seven Michelin starred restaurants within half an hours drive, as well as many many more wonderful and amazingly well priced restaurants we can recommend if you would like. We can lend you bikes and some golf equipment can be made available.
All in all we have tried to create the kind of place we would love to stay, to get away from it all, to feel the space around us, to enjoy the unique French quality of life, but yet to be easily accessible from two airports which offer budget flights and to be able to strike out in any direction and explore this amazing, romantic, traditional and wonderful part of France. We would love you to come. You will, we hope, love it as much as we do and go back feeling you are more relaxed than you have ever been before!
If you are thinking of coming for two weeks or more make sure to ask us for a little discount!
Also, if you wanted me to do a shop for you and put it away in the cupboards and fridge ready for your arrival I can do so ( it will be a little bit extra depending upon how much shopping you want).
Many kitchen incidentals are provided for you so you dont have to worry about bringing those boring things you have to think a over for self catering stays, like salt and pepper, vinegars, oils, herbs, sugar, tee towels, washing up liquids, cling film, foil, loo rolls, etc etc etc. You have several different ways to make coffee just how you like it and we leave you coffee beans and electric coffee grinder too.
Please remember, we prefer any day but Saturday for you to arrive and depart, but of course we can usually accommodate Saturdays if that is your preferred day,

Great property, fabulous host.
Our only regret about Gite Eleanor is that we only stayed for a week. The property itself is extremely comfortable, has everything and more you could ever need, and Carolyn is the perfect host. Her recommendations on places to eat at and to visit were perfect. Very quiet with easy access to interesting places in the Dordogne. Thank you Carolyn for a wonderful week.

A Lovely Week
We were looking for a week's rest in the Perigord Dordogne area after over 7 weeks of travelling. We were lucky enough to find Carolyn & Steve's lovely gite which proved to be exactly what we wanted. From the moment we enquired (which was last minute) to the moment we left, Carolyn and Steve were the perfect hosts; there to help when needed but discrete when not . The gite itself is very comfortable and more than spacious enough for a couple. The bed is super comfortable and everything is sparkling clean and beautifully presented. It is well equipped with all that is needed for cooking or just lazing around with added touches such as coffee, tea, milk and so forth to get one started. Although mid October, we were blessed with delightful weather so after forraying locally, afar or not at all, sitting at the end of the day under the pergola overlooking the field and into the sunset with a little cheese and a glass of wine was just perfect. A great end to our trip and thanks again to Carolyn and Steve who helped make it so.

Tranquility but close to interesting towns and villages
If you are looking for something extra special then you have found it here. Warm and unobtrusive hosts, who have created a special holiday give which has everything you will need for your stay. It has to be one of the cleanest places we have stayed in. Exceptionally peaceful location but close enough to towns and villages in the region. You most definitely need a car. Wonderful and we both felt totally recharged after our stay.

Steve and I moved to France to live full time in January 2013. We had lived in Kingston, south west London for over 30 years and had our holiday home at Lacanau ocean for ten years before finally taking the plunge to move here permanently. Needless to say we have not regretted it and love the peace, the space around us, the clear bright sparkling air, the climate, the lovely people, the fascinating culture and history, the reverence for wine and respect for good healthy food, the sense of community and rhythm of life, the seasonal round of special events, i could go on and on!

Why they chose this property

We chose this spot because we found a house which had the open spacious feel around it, the wide open country all round. We also specially wanted to be between Bordeaux and Bergerac because the two airports give such easy access with such affordable rates to fly to and from the UK.

What makes this property unique

The seclusion and privacy, away from it all!
The space and open natural country views all around you,
The easy access, two airports to choose from and good road and transport links.
Walks and cycling straight from the house,
Surrounded by prestigious wine lands of Bordeaux, St Emilion, Bergerac.
Walking, cycling or gentle country tours by car
Walk or ride to our nearby leisure lakes with bar restaurants open in season.
Great climate with sunshine (not absolutely guaranteed of course)
Big pool pretty much to yourselves
Adults only
No multiple rental units
