About the property

This exclusive property provides you with the availability of unlimited activities & adventures that few people are privileged enough to experience. Located on the south end of Broadkill Beach, this spacious four bedroom property faces the sandy beach just a few steps from your front door & your private pathway to the beach. To the back of the property is your own private dock & boat ramp giving you access to the Broadkill River, Delaware Bay & the Atlantic Ocean.

Instead of parking problems, heavy traffic & crowded beaches, a typical day could look something like this:

In the early morning, from your master bedroom’s private sundeck; view the eastern sky & large ships that appear small, moving effortlessly through a vast body of water while you are enjoying your first cup of coffee. Walk over your small dune that reveals the shoreline of the Delaware Bay; sooth your soul by feeling the calmness of a new day. As you watch the pink, orange, & gold sunrise over the water, the calm changes, you feel a breeze coming from the salty sea, you see & hear the waves begin to lap onto the beach, birds appear, start chirping, & move toward the one foot surf; you now know why Broadkill Beach is the best kept secret in all of Delaware.

Linger & watch the Cape May/Lewes Ferry travel across the mouth of the Delaware Bay to its destination. Watch dolphins playing, splashing & catching fish just in front of you. Walk north toward the Broadkill Store, turn over stranded horseshoe crabs & stop to investigate the life on & around the rock jetty. At low tide look for hermit crabs, starfish, conchs & other sea life in the shallow water around these rocks. Read, relax, swim & take a nap at the water’s edge & refresh yourself with lunch in the cool air conditioning of your retreat just behind the small dune you crossed over earlier in the day.

Walk south from your private beach path toward Beach Plum Island State Park, & ask the fishermen if they are catching anything today. Look south & identify the Roosevelt Inlet, historic Lewes, Henlopen Point & the breakwater lighthouse.

Return to your resting place, take an outdoor shower & plan your evening by making sure you are back home to sit on the bench seats of your private dock to watch a spectacular sunset over a Wildlife Refuge & waterway adjoining your own backyard.

Imagine the convenience of having your own private boat launch & dock, giving you access to limitless activities & adventures that few people would be fortunate enough to discover or experience. Spend the day fishing & crabbing from the dock, exploring winding tributaries in the backwaters, drifting on the Broadkill River, charging through the Roosevelt Inlet into the open expanse of the Delaware Bay & Atlantic Ocean waiting for you to experience all it has to offer.

Bring your toys, if you don’t you’ll wish you had. Launch your own boat, jet skis, canoes, kayaks & other flotation vessels into the backwaters. Navigate south on the Broadkill River to Lewes for a cocktail & meal at the waterside restaurants. Go out Roosevelt Inlet for bay fishing or jet skiing. Come around on the bay to your home at Broadkill & take the family for a ride on the jet skis, go tubing & wakeboarding, take the speed boat for a sightseeing tour, or load everyone up on the pontoon boat for a day trip & picnic lunch. Head back in the Inlet & get a gasoline fill-up on the water at the north end of Lewes.

Your dock is long enough to hold a 24 foot pontoon boat in the water for the week & still have plenty of room to crab, fish, catch minnows, sunbathe, put up a baby pool, fill with water, sit, & relax. Replenish your mind & soul with the serenity of the environment, meditate, read, & experience the sunset from the dock of your private oasis.

This open concept home, built in the perfect location, was designed for comfort, convenience, & enjoyment to be shared with family, friends, & now with you. It consists of two separate living quarters that are included in the weekly rental fee; a three bedroom house & a one room efficiency apartment which sleeps 3. The two areas are connected by an enclosed staircase & access an outdoor shower, changing area, & private space.

On the top level of your home, there are two bedrooms: a Master (21' x 12') and a 14' x 14' bedroom. The Master has a King size bed, single & a pop-up trundle. The second room has a Queen & single bed with pop-up trundle. The master bedroom has a mini refrigerator to store chilled items needed throughout the day/evening/night. The west balcony of this room provides breathtaking views of the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge being described as scenes from the movie, “Out of Africa”. The peaceful Broadkill River is easily seen from this location. Sunsets with a glass of wine (or fresh Strawberry Daiquiri) seen from this private location are always amazing! A private 10'x12' sun deck on the east side of this same room is accessible only through the Master & includes two lounge chairs. From this location, one can see the “Ice Breakers”, Cape May/Lewes Ferry, the Broadkill River, beautiful sunrises, & dolphins jumping in the Delaware Bay.

A complete bathroom between the two rooms that is accessed by pocket doors has a hair dryer located in the vanity drawer. In the closet of this bathroom is a coffee maker, blender, coffee cups, dessert plates, bar glasses & a wine bucket. A plastic bin provided, aids in transferring used glasses & dishes to the dishwasher in the kitchen. We thought of everything! Plan on bringing your own bath & beach towels.

The second bedroom has a portable ironing board & iron for your convenience. There is also a queen size air mattress in this closet for additional sleeping area. The Wildlife Refuge, Broadkill River, boat dock & ramp, fire pit, & tidal waterways are seen from this room.

The third bedroom (12' x 14'), adjacent to the bathroom on the main floor, has a Queen Size bed & a single bed with a pop-up trundle that matches the height of the single bed. The two single beds side by side provide as much room as a king size bed. Mirrored doors on the closet hide a built in dresser & hanging closet space. Its view is the same as the second bedroom, just one floor lower.

The main floor bathroom has a toilet, bathtub/shower combination & double sinks.

The main floor has a fully equipped kitchen (11' x 8') including bar area with two swivel back stools, dishwasher, space saver microwave, halogen electric stove, self-cleaning oven, refrigerator, & ice maker. All pots & pans, utensils, dinnerware, glasses, dish cloths & towels, hot pads & small appliances including electric mixer, toaster, griddle, waffle iron, blender, & coffee maker are provided. A gas grill is at the east entrance of the house on ground level hidden in the (12'x16') privacy area.

On the main floor is a dining area (13' x 10') with a wet bar. This area seats 6 people comfortably. This room has a slider door that accesses a screened in porch with plastic table & chairs, also seating six. Views of the Delaware Bay & all of its activities are seen through these glass slider doors & porch.

Sunken living room (14' x 16') is 4 steps down from the main floor. The 56” LG LED Flat Screen High Definition 1080 p TV, Blu-ray/DVD player is located beside the corner fireplace & can also be seen from the dining area. The white pine cathedral ceiling with oak accents is quite impressive from this room. There is one long (10' x 25') deck off the triple panel glass slider door in the living room, viewing the Delaware Bay. This deck spans the entire front of the house on the east side & gets sun from sunrise until 4:00 p.m. There are four to six lounge chairs on this deck for relaxation & sun bathing.

The efficiency (15' x 23') sleeps four (futon, single & pop-up trundle). It has shower/dressing area, toilet & vanity. Amenities include double capacity washer/dryer, double sided stainless kitchen sink, microwave, refrigerator/ice-maker, 2 tables, 8 chairs, toaster, coffeemaker, blender & 49" Flat Screen TV. Dishes, dishcloths, dishtowels & cooking utensils are provided. This living space might be especially attractive for young couples, individuals having difficulty climbing stairs, a family with small children or teenagers who stay up late and sleep in.

Our home is pet-free & smoke-free. Bed linens & kitchen towels are provided & cleaned by the owners. Please place used bed linens & kitchen towels beside the washing machine prior to departure. We will be performing the touch-up cleaning & maintenance duties ourselves between rentals so you can be assured you will arrive to a clean, welcoming retreat with attention to every detail.

About Bob and Wendy Wulffleff

We are north of Lewes, DE, USA.

Our names are Bob and Wendy. We purchased this lot in 1986 and built the shell of the house in the same year. We completed the efficiency on our own and in 1995, with the help of friends and family, we completed the entire home. When the house needed new siding and a new roof, we enclosed the staircase to join the main part of the house with the efficiency so there was protection from the weather when accessing the efficiency and garage. This is our second home and we would love for your family to come enjoy it as much as we do.

The true reason we purchased the property at the southernmost end of this beach is because Bob LOVES to fish. I was allowed to buy an empty lot as long as it was the furthest one down (South) with a sloping sandy shoreline onto the tidal water of the back yard so he could access his favorite fishing spots directly from his second home on Broadkill Beach. We had a boat ramp and dock before “finished plumbing” in the house! It became the best investment we could ever make and enjoy!

Access to the Delaware Bay in the front and tidal waters in the back yard of our property allowed us to have all the adventures anyone could hope for in a vacation home. The amazing bonus is that the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge adjoins our back yard. No one will ever be able to build on this property and it is ours to enjoy as far as the eye can see.

Lasting memories created by our children playing, swimming, drifting to their grandma’s dock ¼ mile downstream with the tidal water, catching crabs, minnows and snails and inspecting all of their parts and learning how to operate canoes, boats, kayaks, and jet skis from the ramp and dock of our property will always be cherished memories for us.

Bob and Wendy Wulffleff purchased this house in 1986

Why Bob and Wendy Wulffleff chose Broadkill Beach

This property has become one of the greatest blessings Bob and I have ever received because of the wonderful experiences we were able to share with our family and closest friends. Fond memories of breathtaking sunsets over the Wildlife Refuge while sitting on the rustic bench seats constructed by my father, who is with us in spirit, and then watching the stars appear in the sky; finding the north star, big dipper and identifying other constellations. Turning to the moon, we would determine its phase and discuss the way to remember “Waxing” and “Waning” crescent. The children would search for shooting stars and make a wish before heading off to bed in the efficiency apartment. I hope you and your family can create these same or similar memories here at our home at the beach.

This southern section of Broadkill Beach is amazing in that it gives you the true feeling of peace and serenity. When you walk the beach with your morning cup of coffee, you might not see another person anywhere! Privacy, tranquility and serenity are what you experience while walking and meditating on the sandy shore of the mouth of the Delaware Bay. Although individuals do not own the beach front, this is a very private area, possibly because there is no legal place to park your vehicles unless you own the property in this section. There is no public parking. This is a beach experience you have never had before. It is perfect for families. It is located on the Delaware Bay and great for smaller children to swim and play, older ones to fish, swim and operate water toys and for parents to let their guard down a little because your family is easily seen at all times due to the fact that there are few or no people within 100 yards of your beach chair. You will not ever find this beach too crowded and will be able to create your own fond memories to carry you into the future. Discover why the southernmost part of Broadkill Beach is the best kept secret in Delaware by booking at vrbo.602695.

What makes this house unique

This privately owned property has the Delaware Bay and sandy beach a few steps from the front door. In the back is a dock with extended deck and bench seats for relaxing and sunbathing, private cement ramp, fish cleaning table, Wildlife Refuge adjoining the property and private access to the Broadkill River, Roosevelt Inlet, Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean. It’s a beach, fisherman, crabber and sea lover’s dream!

There are water views from every window with decks and porches to enjoy. One can remain on the lounge chairs for hours and enjoy the sound of the bay without stepping in the sand.

There is off street parking on the north side and rear of the property. Boat trailers and other equipment can be parked off street and still have plenty of room for vehicles.

Comcast cable and WiFi is included. The HD channels begin at 800. There is a 56” flat screen TV in the living room and TV/Cable in all bedrooms and efficiency. Bring your gaming systems.

We have a bar refrigerator in the master bedroom & double kitchens due to the bonus efficiency apartment. A double capacity washer and dryer are on site as well. Clothes lines are located in the garage and outdoors for your towels and bathing suits.

There is a full bathroom, on each level of the house, including a tub/shower on the main and top floor and a shower in the efficiency. The outdoor shower is awesome with a large changing area and hot and cold running water.

The house is expected to be as clean as you find it upon departure and is maintained by the owners during the turn-around time. There is a central vacuum available for your use, a Bissel “3 in 1” on each level, and cleaning supplies on main floor and in garage.

This property is well maintained and local contact information and support is provided in case any issues arise.

The water in the back of the property is tidal waters. Check Roosevelt Inlet and add an hour for Broadkill River tides. Bed linens will be done by the home owner. Please place used linens at the washing machine in the efficiency to be washed and dried by owner. If you need more linen, extra bed linen is found in the bottom drawers of dressers in each bedroom closet. The efficiency’s linen is just inside the garage door in the lower dresser drawers. We all had a great time!

  • 5 of 5

Our entire family including grandparents. adult children, grandsons, aunt and uncle had a great time at this lovely Boadkill Beach home. Nicely appointed and with all the comforts, the home provided plenty of room to relax and unwind. The big hit of the week was the pier. Everyone enjoyed crabbing and fishing and then steaming the crabs! My daughter and son in law even harvested muscles by kayak and steamed them to perfection. The beach was nice and we even had it to ourselves during the week. The grandsons loved the water and hunting for sand crabs. The location is amazing and you are far from the maddening crowds but close enough to enjoy Lewes and Rhehobeth being only minutes away. Rain one evening provided for a movie night with popcorn included! With televisions in each bedroom, those who wanted to watch a favorite show, could retreat to the bedrooms for some down time. All in all, everyone had a wonderful time. Great place!

Owner's Response: It is great to know you had a wonderful time. We knew we left our home in good hands when we met your family! I understand your two year old grandson was disappointed when you had to tell him this was not your new house and that you were just borrowing it. It is awesome to make family memories and to know that our beach house on south Broadkill will be a part of your memories for a lifetime. Thanks so much for the great review and come back again! Sincerely, Wendy and Bob Wulffleff p.s. Get uncle to bring his boat next time!

Dream Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

I really can't say enough about what a great vacation we had! The property's access to both beach and river really make this a unique place to stay. The beach is very clean and the minimal people make it so appealing! The house was immaculate inside and the beds were SO comfortable! I long to be back sleeping in that bed! Great house for families--my husband and I stayed there with our 4 young children and my parents and we had plenty of space and the sleeping arrangements were perfect for us. We would spend our days at the beach and our evenings at the river. So relaxing & peaceful. Thank you, Wendy & Bob! We will definitely be back!

Summer of 2017-extended family beach week

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property for an extended family beach vacation and had a great time. Wendy couldn't have been nicer. The location is great with the wetlands out behind with kayak/canoe/boat access and the beach a short walk across a very quiet street. Plenty of beds in each room-good if there are young children. The fourth bedroom is a separate one-room apartment on the ground level. It has it's own kitchen area. This room contains the washer/dryer.

Beautiful spot, perfectly positioned between the river and the beach!

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful beach - perfect for small children with gentle waves and soft sand that encourage independence and grow confidence in the water. Our littles, ages 6, 5, 3 and 1 were able to play independently and the older one swam independently. The beach is so remarkably uncrowded and clean! No sea of umbrellas and tangle of legs to navigate here! The Wulfleffs are very good landlords, responsive, solicitous and accommodating. Our extended family of six adults, 4 children and 2 additional friends lived very comfortably in this home for the week. While we would ideally like a bigger kitchen and dining area, and a separate bedroom for the littles to bunk together, this worked so well for us - much better than we initially thought it would. The extra refrigerator in the efficiency was a godsend. Food for 12 people takes up a lot of space!! The house was well stocked with all the dishes, pans and utensils you could want. The provided bed linens made packing so much easier - again - bedding for 12 people takes up a lot of space!! The fishing dock on the river was so much fun for fishing and crabbing, and the views are breathtaking. We were warned that it could be buggy - but we really didn't have an issue. There were some bugs, and we got a few bites, but nothing unbearable and bug spray alone worked great. You MUST visit the Broadkill Store at the end of the road - the people are so gracious, the stock is great and reasonably priced, and the DONUTS!!! OMG - the donuts are amazing!! Thanks, Bob & Wendy, for sharing your home with us.

We had a wonderful time, The house was beautiful and location was amazing !!

The boat dock was great ! we caught a striper, flounders, crabs, sea trout. We had a very hot week 90's plus, but no rain. The fire pit is great , we are long time tenters , so having a beautiful home to stay in and have AC was great !

Owner's Response: I am happy to hear you did so well with your fishing! This is a great area for everyone to enjoy their favorite activities! While others travel all over the bay in search of the big catch, you are busy hooking them right in your back yard or just a cast away in the Broadkill River! Tent camping is great, but this week was too hot to enjoy all of the activities of the day without the air conditioning (AC) to come home to. Resting and a good night sleep in the AC helps one to rejuvenate and be prepared for the next day of vacation! I hope you will consider vacationing at our home on south Broadkill in the future. Until then, may the peace and replenishment you found during this week revive you and your family for months to come. Respectfully, Wendy and Bob Wulffleff p.s. Thank you for the five star report!

Perfect Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Overall the house, location, and beach were awesome. We were very satisfied and would definitely rent it again. We had three families meet at this property for the week of 4th of July. There were six adults and seven little children (all under the age of seven) in our group. The three bedrooms on the main level of the house (2nd and 3rd floor) were able to accommodate all of us, so nobody slept in the 1st floor efficiency, although the efficiency and the extra refrigerator were very useful for storing some of our excess stuff. We really loved the location of the house, away from all the hustle and bustle. We caught blue crabs off the dock behind the house, enjoyed a campfire in the fire pit, and spent several days at the beach. The beach is a very short walk, right across the street. The beach is extremely private, no beach passes needed, no designated swimming areas, no lifeguards, all of which we really enjoyed. We pretty much had the beach to ourselves every day, so the children were able to run all over the place. It says the beach isn't "maintained", but we found the sand to be just as good as most other beaches we have been to. Since the beach was so private (and visible from the master bedroom on the 3rd floor of the house), we left our beach chairs, tents, towels, etc out on the beach all day, even when we would go back to the house for lunch or naps. Because the beach is on the bay, the waves were much smaller than what you normally get at the ocean, which was perfect for us and little children in our group. One of the guys in our group also had some success surf fishing from the beach. We saw some people having campfires on the beach at night, which was really cool, but never had one. Because it was 4th of July week, we were also able to see lots of fireworks from the house and from the beach at night. My only bit of advice is to make sure you bring or buy some bug spray, to protect against the horseflies and "no see ums". Overall, the bugs weren't too bad, but having some bug spray on hand is definitely a good idea. Thank you very much to the Wulffleff's for renting their house to us. We had such a great trip and will definitely come back to Broadkill Beach someday!

Your details of the beach, its privacy, location, size of waves, freedom to let the kids play, cleanliness, and feeling of security will help others to know we are not just telling "Fish Stories"!
