We had been meaning to visit Bruges for many years but what a wonderful surprise when we eventually got there this year (April 2008). Bruges is an absolute delight to visit and you never get tired of exploring the different parts of the city and admiring the wonderful buildings. But what made our break even more special was the accommodation at the Green Apple Cottage on a small farm just a few minutes drive from Bruges. The cottage is very spacious and everything you need for a holiday is included, even free use of computers in a very large separate games and computer room. Marc and his wife made us feel very welcome. There are lovely views of the countryside from the lounge and you are greeted by three sheep, three donkeys and a deer whenever you are in the cottage.
We liked this cottage so much that we went back for two more short breaks in June 2008 and in Sept. 2008.
We would certainly recommend the Green Apple Cottage to anyone who is looking for quality accommodation on a small farm where you are made really welcome. It is the ideal base to explore the surroundings and to come back to at the end of the day or to just relax if you don't feel like going out.
We are certainly looking forward to more visits to this place in 2009.

When we first arrived we were made to feel very welcome and immediately this felt like home. We have 2 very young children, and everything we could possibly want was provided, from high chairs, baby baths to umbrellas and complete freedom of the farm.
We were allowed to feed the animals with feed provided, had donkeys right next to our patio and fresh chicken eggs in the morning.
The owners were a wealth of local knowledge and took the time to make sure we had what we wanted, but kept their distance thus allowing us our own family time.
Everything was safe and child friendly and there is more than enough toys to share around between both cottages.
The location is perfect and within easy reach of mainland europe and the UK. This is a perfect base for anyone wanting to explore the local area or just get some peace and quiet.
This was everything we wanted and more.
We just experienced a wonderful long weekend in the Green Apple cottage. We truly enjoyed our stay. We have 3 boys, and this farm was IDEAL for their active lifestyles!! The game room, trampoline and bicycles were used. The boys (and my husband and I ) enjoyed the farm fresh eggs we gathered for breakfast, feeding the animals, and the general atmosphere of the farm without all the hard work. Only a 15 minute drive into the city, and a nice biking trail into the city were it a bit warmer. It was great to deal with Marc and his wife and we truly enjoyed our weekend. Wish we could have stayed longer and noticed it is already booked for the summer. A weekend this fall, maybe? It would be really fun for another family to go with us and enjoy together.
We'll definitely go back.
Only regret is we stayed for three nights.
Kids loved the facilities and donkey rides.
After reading other reviews I had high expectations, and the cottage/farm far exceeded my expectations.
The owners are fabulous. They came out and greeted us the moment we stepped out of the car, provided helpful information including where to buy fresh milk (different from buttermilk), and gave us a tour of the beautiful farm and cottage. We have a 5 year old and 1.5 year old and the property is clean, safe and has everything one might need for both ages (and all other ages too). The animals are friendly and our kids loved feeding them, our son rode a donkey many times, the playground is in good condition, there are riding toys for all ages, and the toy/game room has a lot of great toys too. Our children did not want to leave!
We stayed in the cottage in the big picture above and it has two large sofas (not in the photo) and they are very comfortable. The beds are good and the views from the windows and porch are gorgeous. The bathroom is in good condition and has plenty of hot water and towel hooks and there are face washcloths!
We enjoyed daytrips to Brugge, Antwerp and Blankenberge on the coast (to see the sandcastle sculpture exhibit). Reasonable grocery stores are nearby. Had the weather been nicer, biking in the countryside or to towns would have been fun - they have 2 bike seats for small children.
I would return to this cottage in a heartbeat!
We've stayed twice now at the Farm Cottages and are booked to return next year. If you enjoy time with your family and enjoy peace and quiet, it's perfect.
Marc and his wife are incredibly kind and will show / help you how to saddle the donkeys and give you advise on what to do / where to go .
The cottages are clean and welcoming and there is a washing machine you can use, all the bedding and towels are provided.
There is lots to do at the Farm so you don't need to do expensive day trips; trampoline with a net, playground, sandpit, swimming pool (which is heated and clean and locked from children), go karts and bikes to ride on the empty lane, explore the mini wood with playhouse and then the animals as well; a horse, 3 donkeys and chickens that you can feed and get eggs from. On a rainy day or evening you can use the barn with ping pong, a snooker type game and lots of toys for the children.
Bruge is an easy 15 mins drive away and Ghent 30 mins; the Chocolate musuem in Bruge is a must as it's chld friendly but also interesting for adults.
The photos don't do the Farm Cottages justice, it's so peaceful and relaxing!
The Bruges Farm Cottage, 8km from medieval Bruges, 15 minute by car, is one of those which are best described in terms of triumphant superlatives. Its special neighbours, the Flemish Coast and the world-famous Bruges are but one of the reasons why the Bruges Farm Cottage merits the hallmark of exclusivity.
The farm is also an ideal spring-board for rewarding excursions to the Belgian seaside (Ostend), the Flemish Hills, the 14-18 front area, Ypres and Diksmuide or Zeeland, the Dutch frontier is 5 miles away.
The Flemish art cities of Antwerp, Ghent, and Brussels only a 45 minute drive away.
