Perfect Getaway for R&R!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted a week away from the hectic pace of life and we found it in this lovely camp at the shore of tranquil St. Albans Bay in Lake Champlain. The camp has all you need for sleeping and eating, with a full-sized bed on the first floor and other beds upstairs (which we did not use, but they have a spectacular view of the lake from the loft). Windows across the lakeside made us feel like we were aboard a ship on our own private cruise. We felt so relaxed and comfortable. It wasn't too fancy and you could feel the sense of family history all around you in the camp. The setting is private but there's not a feeling of isolation, since the town of St. Albans is a short (10 min.) drive away and Burlington is easily accessible-- around 30 minutes by highway. St. Albans is such a charming village-- surpassed our expecations-- with a few shops, restaurants, and a park where we saw a local band play one evening. They have a farmers market on Saturdays and we were there during a sidewalk sale. We really felt a part of the friendly community. Lori was very accessible and available to answer any questions. Highly recommend!

Great Rental!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing week. The cottage was clean, quiet and cozy. Loved the location, just a short drive to stores, Camp Kilcare, or St. Albans park. There is so much to do in this area. Lori and her family were so personable and easy to work with. We can't wait to return!

Perfect Lake Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had 2 adults and 2 15 year old girls. We fit perfectly in the cottage - parents downstairs, girls in the two single rooms up the spiral staircase. The kitchen had everything we needed and the Food City is just 10 minutes away. We loved eating at the table in the sun room. The cottage had lots of windows from which to see spectacular views of the lake. The weather changed a lot so we got many different views and even a rainbow one day. The girls swam in the lake everyday - the water wasn't too cold since it is a bay. We rented the kayak ($75) and kayaked every day. We particularly enjoyed the turtles in the lake, on the rocks, and a few times on the shore by the house (we think they were laying eggs). There were lots of frogs by the road and we also saw a bald eagle.

There were a few houses next to the cottage that were occupied but other than that, it was pretty private and quiet. Beware that the road down to the cottage is gravel and had some holes so drive slowly (about a quarter mile).

We had a couple days in St Albans where we did local things. We hiked in the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge which was tranquil and beautiful. I did a 15 mile bike ride on the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail which starts from a small parking lot in St Albans behind the Maple City Diner. Very uncrowded and peaceful. We sampled CreeMees at Hoss's Dogg House and at the Bay Store. We liked the Bay Store ice cream the best.

We went to Burlington a couple of times (45 minutes). We toured University of Vermont, went to the ECHO aquarium, walked up and down Church street, and had great food at the Skinny Pancake and the Burlington Market and Cafe. We went to Shelburne Farms and the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory (60 minutes) away. We loved the farm - we got a tour of the dairy facilities, pet some farm animals, and bought some delicious cheese. We went to Underhill State Park (60 minutes) to hike Mt Mansfield, but only made it to Cantilever Rock due to rain.

In summary, the cottage is great and there is tons to do locally and within an hour. I would be happy to return.

Nice cottage and great location

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is right on the lake which made it very easy for my family to enjoy the lake all day. We went swimming, fishing, snorkeling, strolled around the bay in the paddle boat and sometimes just floated on rafts. Plenty of wildlife to observe and enjoy. We saw a bald eagle. The cottage had everything we needed. We also enjoyed a few of the different restaurants in town (Jeff's Seafood, Twiggs, Mimmo's and Tim's Place for breakfast). They were all very good. Everyone was really friendly. We also enjoyed some VT attractions (Ben & Jerry's, VT Teddy Bear Factory, Cabot's, Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Church Street Market Place, Echo Aquarium, enjoyed 25 cent hot dog night when seeing the Lake Monsters and a night at the Drive-In Movies in Colchester.

I would recommend this property to my friends and relatives. Our 8 year old boy loved his vacation on the lake as did mom & dad.

Cute out of the way cottage

  • 4 of 5

This little cottage was just right for a family gathering for my grandson's graduation. A few of us came from out of town 7 hrs away. We enjoyed fishing, the paddle boat and row boat, walking the beach, seeing the turtles, and the sunsets. It was a little cold and rainy the last 2 days but no worries the electric heaters did the trick to keep us warm and cozy. It was close to St Albans where my son lives and close to so my other attractions. I loved seeing the mountains across the water. We will be back I am sure.
