Peaceful and Relaxing Staycation for Two
We were looking for a private place to celebrate our 1st year anniversary and we came access Highfield Manor from VRBO. The online pics seemed to be a little older, but everything looks better in person. The owner (John Kardos) was very nice and gave us a detailed tour of the property. He answered all our question during booking within 24 hours, and all concerns we had during our stay were answered promptly as well.
The property is situated in a very private wooded area, and even though the caretaker’s place was nearby, we never saw them. We loved the decor all throughout the house and the amenities were great. The swimming pool was separate from the main house, and we had to walk outside, but not far. It was smaller than we were expecting, but it worked for us as an indoor pool for two people. WiFi didn’t work well on the 2nd and 3rd floor but that forces you to do things together without any devices. We were not able to use the WiFi on the living room and basement smart TVs, but the other TV by the jacuzzi had a Roku that we were able to use.
Overall, our stay was great, and we definitely had a memorable anniversary.
Thanks again, John, for the sweet anniversary gift!
It was amazing, we loved it. John was so nice and very helpful. Thank you so much
What a beautiful house and property! Exactly what we wanted for the weekend!
We had a mini family reunion with 7 of us staying at Highfield Manor. The house is gorgeous and very well appointed. From the bathrobes in each room to the very well stocked kitchen, there was nothing lacking about the place. Every detail made for a wonderful weekend!
What a Great Getaway
My friends and I enjoyed every minute of our stay at Highfield. It is a very lovely property. Very clean, spacious and charming. Thank you John for all of your assistance!
Chestertown Wedding / Family weekend
This house was perfect for 8 adults in my family to stay the weekend near Chestertown for a wedding near by. The convenient location to the wedding and town was perfect. The house is clean and beautiful with lots of thoughtful details - plenty of dishes, robes and slippers for guests, comfortable beds, lots of beach towels and flips flops to use at the pool and hot tub, kitchen had everything we needed, plenty of towels and linens.
We had a great dinner in town one night at Luisa's, cooked at the house and spent time together in the morning and evening in the hot tub. The property is beautiful and peaceful. John was easy to communicate with and quick to respond. The check in and out process was simple and deposit was refunded quickly. We would recommend this home and hope to make it back.
Charming historic Chestertown MD houses Washington College as well as Emmanuel Church, which was the site of the first Episcopal Church in America. Many significant sites from America's Colonial Period, the Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and the Civil War are in the area.
Chestertown also hosts lively entertainment at The Garfield Theatre, and many festivals along the riverfront and at the town's Fountain Park. A replica of the 1768 schooner Sultana holds proud watch over the marina, and also offers educational tours.
The award-winning Lemon Leaf Cafe has the 'best cream of crab soup' on the Eastern shore, but don't leave town without trying their famous crab cakes and lemon meringue pie. Evening entertainment is often offered at the adjoining JR's Pub. One can spend the day shopping, antiquing or just strolling along the cobblestone sidewalks of this Eastern Shore gem.
Shopping in Chestertown can take you from the gorgeous antiques at Poor Richard's to the chic styles at Mimi's Closet. Don't miss the local flavor of gift shops Twigs and Teacups, Gabriela's or Dockside. Art galleries, coffee shops and quaint restaurants will entice you, and the weary can have a day of beauty at Flow salon. Also, the Queenstown Outlets are only 25 minutes away.
Just down the road is a boater's paradise. Rock Hall, Maryland is a waterfront town offering gorgeous views of America's treasure, the Chesapeake Bay. Swim, sail or kayak to your heart's content. Crabs, clams and rockfish are the prime catch for the local watermen, and their bounty can become your entree within just a few moments.
