Why John A Wright chose Vicksburg
The history of the American South is one of the most important to the development of American Culture, from slavery to Civil Rights. As such, this historically and architecturally significant property provides a perfect means by which to experience the Deep South from a base in Vicksburg, Mississippi, a city whose geographical location along the Mississippi River put it at the center of the cotton industry, the Mississippi Waterway Trade, the economic development of the South, the removal of Native Americans, French and Spanish Colonialism, the Civil War, the Klu Klux Klan, and the Civil Rights struggle for African Americans as well as the birth place of America's music, the Blues.
What makes this Estate unique
The sweeping staircase and grand parlors, as well as the decorative architectural elements have made this National Historic Register home a rare survivor of time. The rafters still are charred from a roof fire in the Civil War, but the building remains intact and updated. There is a marble fireplace in every room.

This house is amazing -- and the photos don't do it justice. A perfect spot to appreciate the history of Vicksburg. The decor is perfect - lovely antiques. The pool is private and lovely. Our favorite part? Sitting on the front porch and looking at the Mississippi River! Thank you!
Thank you for the kind review. It was so nice to be able to host you. We agree with you, the porch is the spot! Come back. We would love to see you again. John
Extraordinary Historic and Comfortable Home
A Christmas visit with family in Vicksburg was made all the more special and memorable by this extraordinary home! While filled with all of the modern amenities (the master bath is incredible!), the house’s history and decor make you feel you’re taking a step back in time. It is meticulously clean and very comfortable.
The house owner and managers were very responsive to inquiries and made the check-in/out process very easy. They even decorated the house for Christmas with a tree, wreathes and ‘stockings hung by the chimney with care’!
The weather cooperated on our trip, giving us the opportunity to enjoy a happy hour, rocking on the front porch and watching the sun set on a very special vacation.
Dear Terry. It was our immense pleasure to have you and your family at the Featherston McGruder House for the Christmas holiday. I’m so glad you were able to be with your family and hope you will come back again. Thank you for such a beautiful review. All the best in 2019!

Just as great our second time around !
This is our second time to stay at this beautiful home. The house managers are quick to respond if needed, and the house has everything you need. We enjoyed being within walking distance to great food and shopping. The best part is morning coffee on the front porch. We definitely plan on coming back.
Lerissa, it's so good to have you all there as repeat customers. I hope you will come back!

This beautiful home has everything you need, centrally located in Vicksburg. The owner was very kind and helpful as well as the house managers. We will definitely book this house again.
David and Cindy, it was our immense pleasure to have you stay with us and look forward to meeting you one day soon. best regards, J
We met our extended family in Vicksburg and some of us stayed in the house. It’s a beautiful home full of period pieces. We loved the history. John was very responsive and very helpful. He connected us to a local park ranger who gave us a tour of the National Park and that was well worth it. We really enjoyed the house and the ability it gave us for having our family being able to be together. Would highly recommend!
