Overview

About the property

Bright and sunny, private backyard and gardens

This converted Model-A barn is located in the backyard (private yard, alley entrance, and alley parking - please do not disturb the front house residents). It has been fully remodeled to include vaulted ceilings with skylights, a full kitchen, gas fireplace and clawfoot bathtub.

With the kitchen, living area, and bedroom in one space with high ceilings with skylight, the space feels spacious. There is a traditional bathroom with clawfoot tub and shower, and a closet for storage.

A cast iron gas fireplace easily heats the well-insulated studio. There is a small tv with digital antennae and a dvd player, and of course full-fledged internet service.

There is a new large deck entrance with sitting table and a bbq grill, facing the wild gardens maintained by the owners. From the entrance gate in the alley, the foot path meanders past the flower gardens, under a huge shade tree, and to a world record size rhubarb plant welcoming you to the door!

Garden Cottage is a licensed tourist home facility through the MT Dept of Health and Human Services, license # H-301554 County 16 Gallatin. Bozeman Cottage is owned and operated by Paul House, a licensed property manager in the state of Montana, license # RRE-RPM-LIC-45468.

Note: Wallace Ave will be under construction until mid August. Since the cottage is in the back yard, it is less of an issue than if it was on the street, but we want you to be aware of some additional construction noise.

About Paul House

I am a painter and teach art to home bound children. I purchased this property when I moved here from Reno, Nevada in 1976 when I came here to study art at MSU.

Paul House purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Paul House chose Montana

I had three little children and I bought this property because it was the least expensive house on the market in Bozeman at that time. I loved it because it had character, was near downtown, my kids could walk to school, and it was just as near the foothills. The cottage was just an old garage that was first inhabited by my friends, Greg and Bucky for a year or so to help them save and get started in their married life. When they moved to Dillon my son put a lot of work into making it a nice place and we called it Harold's Ski Palace until he bought his own house. I like small, efficient, cozy spaces and it's fun to share it!

What makes this cottage unique

The Garden Cottage is a wonderful free-standing one-room suite with no noises from the room next door because there is no room next door. Settle into this historic neighborhood and you'll be just 3 blocks from downtown Bozeman.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Paul, just wanted to thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful cottage.  It was exactly what we needed for our stay in Bozeman.  We thoroughly enjoyed The place and will definitely keep you in mind the next time we visit Montana.

Garden Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Generally as described/advertised.

Conveniently located very near downtown and located within a nice older neighborhood. Very much appreciated that a well behaved dog was accommodated.

The premises could use a bit of extra cleaning from time to time and a bit of routine light maintenance, e.g., sink drain, oscillating floor fam, tree branches heavily rubbed against side of house and rooftop when winds were present one night. Alley parking area small but adequate for mid to small vehicles. Again some trimming of tree branches would be beneficial.

Paul was very responsive regarding a couple of questions. Enjoyed staying at the Garden Cottage.

Garden Hide-Away

  • 4 of 5

Cute little cottage tucked back into a quiet garden. One floor, nice kitchen area, comfy bed and a great claw foot tub in the bathroom. Nice deck to sit outside and enjoy a drink. Walking distance to downtown. Cons - limited TV channels (may be a +!), nice skylights add light to the inside, but make sleeping in very difficult. It was unseasonably warm while we were there, but cottage cooled down nicely with fans.

Good Bed, poor Bathroom

  • 2 of 5

When traveling, you want a nice bed and a nice bathroom. Unfortunately, this rental only has one of those. The bed and room was comfortable but the bathroom left a lot to be desired. A rounded bottom claw foot tub/shower with curtain all around and not even a soap dish inside with very touchy water adjustments was unpleasant. The sink is tiny with a small unfinished wood shelf above it and a small mirror to the side. This is a very substandard bathroom and not easy to use.

Bozeman is a great place and the location is convenient, although the walkway in to the cottage has low hanging branches. It was nice to have a small kitchen to prepare coffee and snacks in and the place was clean.

Cozy and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This is a sweet little studio on a quiet alleyway. It has everything you need with a fully functioning kitchen, and a comfortable bed. On cold days it heats up quickly.

Adorable Cottage

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the garden cottage in Bozeman, MT. Very conveniently located only mn from Main street this adorable little house was the perfect place for me to discover the area. It has its own parking spot. The gas furnace provides an excellent heat source. Not to mention the miniature tree in the lost/storage area which gives this place an even greener feel. Last but not least it is steps away from my 2 fave eating spots: wild crumb & Ale Works. I felt atvhome right away & will definitely be staying there again.

Quiet and central area

  • 4 of 5

Had a little trouble locating the cottage with the written direction we were given, but found the cottage easily once we got on the correct alley. Enjoyed both the quite and central location for our mini vacation. The parking space was a little tight for our Trailblazer, so don't bring a long bed pickup and try to park in there. Enjoyed the glass fronted propane stove, just gave the cottage a homey feel. Also appreciated the complete kitchen as we made breakfast each day and usually packed a lunch for our exploring. Great place, and we'll be telling our family and friends about the cottage.

Owner's Response: Thanks Judy, I'm glad you had a good stay. I realized the directions were off so they are now updated, including directions from the airport now that we have our new interstate on-ramp finished! We hope to have you back on your next visit for more adventures.
