We came to Montignac with our 2 children on a family holiday in 2001. The kids loved the area-there was so much to see and do and always there was something new to experience and discover. We did this for 7 years , then we found Le Four a Sel fell in love with it and decided to make it our home
We love the peaceful rural setting, the wonderful sense of freedom this large expanse of space our property gives us and being beside the river is just so relaxing . And we are still in awe of the stunning scenery of this part of the Dordogne. We still get pleasantly surprised when we drive around and stumble upon a quaint village , a hidden castle.
**Excellent Location- peaceful and secluded but not isolated, walking distance to a bakery /bar/restaurant . Charming Montignac is close enough for one to walk in across the fields or along the back roads, with its cafes& restaurants, Wednesday and saturday market where you can buy local produce. And we are just 30 minutes away from many attractions, you won't need to drive too far to get back to your house. There is so much to see & do, 2 weeks won't be enough
**Lots of Space! You will never feel cramped here.15 acres of land for the children to run around in & expel all their excess energy. And still so much left for anyone to find their own private corner and get away from it all .
**The riverside setting is simply stunning, and oh sooo peaceful! Set beside the river Vezere, the riverbank is lined with poplar trees a 100 feet high .Watch the trees swaying gracefully in the wind ,listen to the nightingale break into song, or catch a glimpse of a kingfisher .
**Fabulous views . Wake up in the morning to views of lush cornfields from your bedroom window, or watch the early morning mist rise above the Vezere river at 7am
Though we are by the river, both the swimming pool and the river are protected by a fence and gate to keep children safe.
**Private Fishing on your doorstep- Half a kilometre of river frontage for fishing from dawn to dusk
**Onsite facilities below provide sufficient amusement for everyone- no need to go sight seeing everyday.

Really enjoyed our stay with Brenda and David. They have a fantastic place on the banks of the river Vezere. It is a quiet 3km bike ride to Montignac which is a lovely smallish town with plenty of shops and cafes right on the river. Down stream from Montignac are all the prehistoric sites for which this area is famed. Le Four a Sel provides spacious accommodation for an extended group - we were a large family group ranging in age between 3 and 80. The teenagers loved the pool and the table tennis table and the space near the river to play football and we all enjoyed communal meals in the covered seating area in the courtyard. There is a farm nearby selling fresh milk and during the summer months there is a "night market" one evening a week in the local village, Aubas, a short walk away across the bridge over the river, with a small restaurant/bar/grocers shop and acts as the local bread depot where you can order bread. The facilities were great We were there for one week but there is plenty to do for longer. We took our own canoe and you can launch from the riverbank at the property - there is a little landing stage. You can canoe up river from the property towards Chateau Sauve Boeuf . Altogether a great spot - we would love to go back.
You know when you dream of the perfect day, well this was it.The location was fantastic as we needed to accommodate 22 people from 3 continents. This is an ideal place for large groups as there are plenty of rooms, kitchens and bathrooms and loads of outside space should you need some downtime from the group. There is so much to see in the surrounding area and you never have to venture very far for a day out.The town Montignac is close with a good supermarket, bakery, cafes and places to eat. David and Brenda are the ideal hosts. They helped find a chef for the lunch, were there when we needed help and information, always with a smile.
The property is very well maintained, clean and comfortable, great for large groups of friends or large family, big outside seating area to sit and chill and have a few beers to relax, river on site if you fancy a fishing holiday, Dave and Brenda could not do enough for us. Great place to stay and plenty to see within easy drive.
A lovely collection of Gites, nicely furnished next to the river. Well sited for most attractions in the area. The hosts were fantastic, very accommodating and friendly. They were full of fantastic and honest information about the locality.
Gites were neat clean and convenient. It was great to have an enclosed courtyard for the children.
Fabulous setting with lots of space for a big family group to enjoy time together or apart when needed. Pool was very very clean. Plenty of activities nearby including kayaking and horse riding. Sarlat a lovely medieval town to visit. Also very relaxing if you don't want to be active. So something for everyone here.
The photos on the website don't sell this place enough!! beautiful property and grounds.
the owners Brenda and David were fantastic hosts, there for us when we needed it but not over bearing. The pool was a good size especially for new swimmers like me. The property is in walking distance to a lovely town of Montignac and far enough to enjoy the beautiful countryside. the accommodation was perfect really can not fault our stay at all, the only downfall was having to go home at the end.
We decided with friends of mine to discover Perigord as whe want. I'm french coming from Alsace and to my mind this holidays were perfect. Guests are always ready to take care of you. Property was perfectly located, quiet along the Vezere, where you can fish. The region is beautiful, our stay was partitioned between relaxing at the pool, fishing, visiting the area and eat barbecue in the evening. Everything is within reach, it remains only to enjoy and relax.
The villa was perfect for all private bathroom for each bedroom, large living room, very comfortable.
The perfect holiday, thank you to our hosts for this sweet stay in Périgord
