Beautiful Mountain Home w/ Incredible Views - 106 Acres, Hot Tub, Total Privacy

Bedrooms 7
Space 4,200 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 - 5 nights

About the property

Main House (6 Bedrooms 4 Bath Sleeps 16) + Guest Cabin (1 Bed 1 Bath Sleeps 2)

The Great Escape is a spectacular, newly renovated mountain property that was built for privacy, relaxation and the enjoyment of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The spacious three level cabin with 6 bedrooms and two master bedrooms is located at 3,900 feet at the center/top of a private mountain spanning 106 acres which boasts spectacular westward views of meadows, mountains, and valleys. There is a guest cabin 100 yards from the main house that can be rented for $100 per night. The guest cabin includes the 7th bedroom and 5th bathroom. We can host larger events such as weddings, but charge additional fees and need to discuss on a case by case basis.

30 minutes north of Boone, 20 minutes from Mountain City. Last half mile uphill on a private gravel driveway. FOUR WHEEL DRIVE REQUIRED IN WINTER AND EARLY SPRING (always check the weather). We have had guests attempt the driveway after a snow in two wheel drive and we end up having to ask our neighbors with 4WD for help :) We have had guests bring trailers with bikes/motorcycles up the driveway without any issues, however less experienced/skilled motorcycle riders might not be comfortable with the gravel/pitch of drive. There are gas stations/convenience stores 5-10 minutes away, but the closest full service grocery stores are in Boone and Mountain City which are 30 and 20 mins, away respectively.

Key Amenities:

Main House: Six bedrooms/four baths in main house. This includes two master bedrooms. The primary master has a fireplace and a private deck with view.

There are two upstairs bedrooms with queens that share a bathroom.

In addition there are two "kids" rooms on the lower level that share a bathroom. These bedrooms have two bunk beds in each, however there is a full size bottom bunk in each room if you need more room for adults.

Sonos music in the dining room, living room, upstairs master, downstairs rec room and deck. Makes it easy to stream your favorite music.

Two large TV areas with L-shaped couches. The one on the lower level is perfect for kids.

Large dining room table seats 14.

Guest Cabin: 1 bedroom, w bath, kitchenette and sitting room (rents for an additional $85-$100 per night). The guest cabin is approximately 100 yards from the main house. Great for grandparents, adult children who appreciate a little quiet. We never rent the guest separately, so you will have complete privacy if you don't end up renting the guest cabin also.

About Gordie

We're a family of six with four kids who love the Great Escape - ages 11, 7, 5 and 1. We've always enjoyed the outdoors and the mountains. We rented the property in early 2014 and after a great weekend, decided to try to purchase it.

We renovated the main house and are adding three bedrooms and substantial living space in the spring of 2017.

As former military members, my wife and i are happy to offer an 5% discount to Active Duty Military personnel. We also offer returning guests an 5% discount off of list price.

Gordie purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Gordie chose Zionville

Spectacular views and chance to escape the city. It's very private and quiet with no other houses in sight. We wanted to have a place where our tfour children could tramp around and explore while we could relax with extraordinary views.

What makes this cabin unique

Very, very quiet, and very very private. Our recent upgrades have transformed a great piece of mountain property into a premium mountain escape.

Plenty of room for several families. Two master bedrooms and four additional guest rooms. Huge dining room table that seats 14. Plenty of seating areas on first two floors.

Gorgeous views in a perfect house!

  • 5 of 5

We had three families and stayed at the house 4 days. We never felt crowded because there was so much space and different areas to relax. Enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit as well as the expansive decks. We also rented the extra cabin which was so cozy and well stocked. The owner was very easy to work with and the house and grounds were well maintained. We have stayed at many different places and this is at the top of our list. Highly recommend.

Amazing views... large house with plenty of space for 4 families/couples

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here, we had plenty of room for 8 adults + 4 kids. The view was incredible. There was plenty to do on the property (hot tub, fire pit, shooting range, old cemetery and 5 of us completed the “mountain challenge” run). Plus we found some great local hikes to do with the kids within 20 minutes of the property (Summit Trail at Elk Knob State Park and Laurel Creek Falls). We’ll be back!

Beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

Recently enjoyed a 5-day trip here with my extended family. Everything about the property was great - from the long range views to the countless acres available for exploring. The large basement, open fields, and wood fort were especially enjoyed by the younger kids. Looking forward to making a stay at The Great Escape an annual tradition!

Beautiful Mountain Oasis

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful family vacation with 3 generations!!! Everyone had an absolutely fabulous time. The grandkids thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit as well the adults. Had multiple fossball tournaments throughout the week. Plenty of space for all 13 of us to stretch out and not be on top of each other. Enjoyed morning coffee and gorgeous sunsets on the deck. Kitchen ample size for cooking. Large dining room table so we all could sit down to eat together. Kids enjoyed hiking along the property especially up the big hill. The Mountain Fitness challenge was extremely difficult but it was completed. Only draw back was the upstairs master bedroom has no window treatments so put the early risers in that room. Had a gas grill with extra tanks. Unfortunately the guests before us left the bedroom door open and mattress got soaked. It was being dried out with fans when we arrived. Sonos music system was awesome for playing music in different zones. Very easy to use. Met the caretaker, Shane who gave us his number if we needed anything.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the review Barbara. We'd love to host you again. We are getting custom window treatments for the upstairs master, so future guests won't be woken up too early.

Secluded, quiet and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The Great Escape was the solitude my family needed at a critical time. Just before our vacation, we had a family emergency. Gordie worked with us in a very fair and compassionate way. While we were unable to use the entire week, as we had planned, we WERE able to get up to the beautiful house for a couple of nights for a much needed respite. The house is far more amazing than the pictures show. Immediately upon entering, it feels warm and homey. It is nicely decorated with some wonderful artwork by Tumbleston, one of my favorite local artists. It is clean and the kitchen is well stocked. They offered books that included local history which is very fascinating! We were able to do a little hiking around the property and it was beautiful! Sitting in the hot tub at night was revitalizing and looking out through Turkey Gap towards Mountain City, it appeared that there were only 2 lights way off in the distance. The stars were amazing!! We will definitely be back, hopefully for a full week next time!! Thank you Gordie and family for sharing your awesome house with us!!

The property is stunning and perfect for a family trip!

The views are incredible!! We went from sitting on the porch, to the fire pit overlooking the mountains! The kids loved playing in the large field, going to the fort on the property and walking down to the pond for fishing! The place was clean and gordie was amazing answering any questions we had!!!
