About Alice Martin

We were weekenders for many years, but finally decided to build our dream home on the property in 2008. Mark is a Washington University professor, and Alice is a substitute teacher in the local area. We love it here!

Alice Martin purchased this house in 1996

Why Alice Martin chose Owensville

This property was purchased because of the natural beauty of the area. The area is covered with oaks, hickories and cedar trees, as well as many native wildflowers. The convenience of I-44 close by was an added benefit.

Best weekend getaway imaginable!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect "get-away" for an extended Memorial Day weekend celebration. It was an ideal cabin for two couples and their dogs. We didn't leave the property once... there was so much to do and all the accommodations were perfect. We spent 90% of every day in the lake, swimming and boating. We enjoyed multiple barbecues throughout the weekend, and the kitchen ended up having everything we accidentally forgot to pack :) Every evening we had a beautiful bonfire, right by the lake, and watched the sunset. We loved that the grass was cut short on the entire walk from the cabin to the dock. We couldn't have asked for anything better. We definitely plan on coming back next year... hopefully for even longer next time!

Quiet, private, relaxing, and very dog friendly.

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to get away for a long weekend. My kids and I decided to take a long weekend and get away for a bit over spring break. It was too cold for swimming but we did kayak and hike and make a fire outside in the evening. The next day it rained but the house itself is very clean and comfortable and we kept busy with games and puzzles. Our dog probably had the best time of all of us. She ran and ran and ran - something she can’t do where we live. There was no traffic to worry about or concern that she would bother anyone. And the owners even provide dog dishes and towels for wiping off paws. It’s not that far from the town if you need to run out but it is super quiet and feels like you are really out there - which we thoroughly enjoyed since we live in the city. It probably would have been nice to have a TV for the rainy day so we could watch a movie, but we managed fine.

Owner's Response: I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay!! I hope that you will be able to return, my husband would love to meet Sophie (yes, we are dog crazy!). Thank you for the recommendation to get more utensils, I made a Target run yesterday.

A little slice of heaven

  • 5 of 5

We spent my birthday weekend at Post Oak Chase and it was everything that we had hoped for. The house is spacious and is well equipped with kitchen essentials, extra blankets and pillows and room to spread out. Our two dogs loved swimming in the pond and exploring the property with us. We ate out Friday night at the White Mule Winery and enjoyed a good meal, good wine and friendly people. I have never seen so many stars in the night sky as we could see from the porch when we got back to the cabin. We cooked hot dogs over an open fire Saturday night and listened to the coyotes serenade us. It was a perfect weekend.

We were a little too early for the WiFi to be functioning and cell phone reception was spotty, but that was a good thing. We relaxed, unplugged and enjoyed everything nature had to share. I highly recommend staying at Post Oak Chase.
