Nestled in the picturesque Cuyamaca Mountains, just one hour east of downtown San Diego, Julian is a premier year-round getaway destination for those seeking an escape to the natural beauty of the countryside. Born during a one-year gold rush in 1869, Julian, California is a small town cradled in the mountains, surrounded by apple orchards and vineyards. Unlike other gold rush towns, Julian never became a ghost town. Maybe it's just too pretty to leave. Whatever the reason, today's Julian exudes small-town charm and country friendliness. Unlike San Diego’s coastal communities, with Julian’s 4,200 ft. elevation, it is unique due to its four distinct seasons, from the changing color of fall leaves and the fresh spring blooms of lilacs and daffodils, to a warm summer breeze and even a majestic snowfall.
People enjoy visiting Julian for its laid-back charm and beautiful surroundings, but recommending the best time to visit is hard. This historic mountain hideaway offers a multitude of options in each season. Whether you are coming to sample its famous warm apple pie, visit some local wineries, spend time at the gold mine with the family, or escape for a romantic weekend in the tranquility of the great outdoors, Julian is a wonderful, close-to-home weekend getaway that leaves you feeling you have left the world behind for a few days.
The Owl’s Nest is a very private, charming home on nearly 3 acres, located within the “Historic District” of Julian. Just 1.3 miles from town gives you the opportunity to be close to this quaint little town, yet lets you retreat to your mountain “nest” when you are ready for some relaxation. Our home was completely renovated in November 2014. The spacious 1200 sq ft 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom place will make you feel very at home with all of the creature comforts.
The house is our family home that has been in the family for several generations. It is a very large 3-story house, and we rent out the entire first floor. We are not on the property when the house is rented, so as to give our guests the utmost privacy and feeling of tranquility. All of our guests have loved their stays at The Owl’s Nest, and many plan to return in the future.
Why the name, “The Owl’s Nest”? It is a name given with faith…we just installed an Owl Box on the property in July 2018, and we very much hope to have a resident owl, or if we're lucky, an owl family living on the property soon!
