About Joanne Korsmo
Both my husband Mike and I came to Alaska in 1984, I am originally from CT, I am a station manager for a small commuter airlines Alaska Seaplanes, we fly to many communities in Southeast Alaska. My husband Mike is from WA State, and he is a tugboat captain running boats all over Alaska. We met here in Skagway and immediately fell in love with this beautiful country. Anyone who has spent anytime in Alaska will agree that in just gets under your skin and becomes home. We raised our 2 daughters here and have enjoyed this peaceful safe little town for over 30 years.
Joanne Korsmo purchased this House in 2000
Why Joanne Korsmo chose Skagway
We bought our beautiful house in 2000, there are large windows on all 3 sides of the house capturing all the breathtaking views Skagway has to offer. You can look to the north and see the White Pass Mountain range in the Yukon and also look to the south and see the Lynn Canal all from one room. The location was a draw as well, only 10 minutes from town by car, it definitely gives you the feeling of getting away from it all.
What makes this House unique
One unique benefit of the house is during the tourist season you have a the bird's eye view of the ships coming into port every morning and leaving every night. You can enjoy watching from the upstairs bedroom, or off the balcony or the downstairs living room, and lower deck.

The home was amazing! It provided us with warmth, comfort, and a place for us all the reconnect and laugh from the bottom of our tummy’s. This home base was perfect, you can’t help but smile when you look over the ocean, hear the sounds of the trains, planes and ships and just aborb all the beauty around you. Thank you Jo!
This was an awesome group of ladies enjoying our home and they are welcome back anytime!!
Best place to stay in Skagway!
Cant say enough about this home! The view is amazing! The home has everything you need and is so cozy! Joanne is very accommodating and such a gracious host. We spent a week here with 8 friends and family. The memories made are priceless.
Tammy, it’s a pleasure to share our house with you and family
Best work trip EVER!
We stayed at this beautiful home for a work trip and it was AWESOME! We could not wait to get back there at the end of the day and even snuck out there for our lunch once for a quick sunning on the deck. It has all the comforts of home. There is an amazing view, beautiful flowers, and more. We cooked dinners in the spacious kitchen and sipped wine on the deck and lets not forget hammock time! We hope to get another opportunity to stay here. Kudos Korsmos, you have a gorgeous home. Thank you for sharing it!
Perfect stay for family of 6!
This is a wonderful place to stay in Skagway. My husband and I, my mother, and our three daughters were very happy with the accommodations and Joanne went out of her way to make sure all our needs were met. I did not realize when I booked the house that the master is on the main level, which was perfect for my mom not having to deal with going up and down a ton of stairs. As long as you have a car, you can reach all that Skagway and surrounding areas have to offer from this location, and the views are incredible for when you are having a relaxing day at the house. If you are looking for a house to rent in Skagway, we highly recommend this one!
I can’t begin to think of enough superlatives to describe this home and it’s property owners. Thank you for enhancing our time in Skagway in the very way possible.
Great view great hostess
Property had one of the best views of the port, fjord, townsite and airport. House and amenities were awesome. We utilized the bbq and expansive deck to its potential. Joanne is an awesome hostess and took great pride and care of the property. Highly recommend
These folks were great guests, so glad they enjoyed the house.
Skagway is a National Park, there is a Park Service museum and City museum offering lots of wonderful history dating back to the 1898 Goldrush. Beautiful hikes and lots of activities such as White Pass Railroad, Packer Expeditions hiking to glaciers and kayak trips to Fraser B.C. Temsco Helicopters, Alaska Excursions Zipline, Horseback riding and dog sled tours. There is something for everyone.
