About Dessie Sandoval & Jacqueline Jaramillo

We are semi retired, currently managing properties in San Francisco, and are owners-managers for agriculture development in Ecuador. We live 6 months in Cuenca, 6 months in the North Bay area of California, near San Francisco, and we travel extensively to other parts of the world to visit our many relatives. I am a native San Franciscan, born and raised there, and my wife, Jacqueline, was born and raised in Quito, Ecuador.

Dessie Sandoval & Jacqueline Jaramillo purchased this condo in 2011

Why Dessie Sandoval & Jacqueline Jaramillo chose San Sebastian

We fell in love with Cuenca, then this building and location. We bought before the building was completed, and have enjoyed living here immensely. Because we are absent for 3 month periods twice a year, we would like to share this terrific place with responsible people, who could make this their home while we are gone.

What makes this condo unique

We love the leafy green views with the red brick buildings and red tile roofs, that shimmer in the light. The river view and sound of the water are relaxing. There is a path along the river for a 2 mile round trip that I take daily. We are close to restaurants, supermarkets, the largest mercado in Cuenca, lots of public transportation, and ammenities. We have a secure underground parking space, but a car isn´t really needed here.

Great Get Away

  • 4 of 5

The condo was clean, spacious and provided a great view of the mountains and city. The wireless internet signal was strong and reliable. The condo has a well equipped kitchen, great showers and a full sized washer and dryer. Our favourite part was the terrace view. My husband and I spent several mornings just sitting out on the terrace drinking coffee and taking in the view. We enjoyed hiking the nearby mountains, strolling by the river and walking downtown. We made use of the local buses and taxis and ventured out to the nearby towns to explore the culture, history and enjoy the local people. Cuenca allowed us to enjoy the Spring like temperatures and escape the Canadian cold winter. The owners were kind and helpful and answered any questions. We had a wonderful stay in Cuenca at this property.

Exceptional condo wig great location and amenities

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough positive things about this property and the owners. The owner was very prompt in responding to reservation request and any and all questions. The condo is absolutely beautiful and comfortable. Kitchen (thank you for the sharp knives) was exceptionally well stocked for cooking. Beds are very very comfortable. Roomy bathrooms with lots of hot water. The location of the condo is great. I originally didn't think I wanted to be on that side of Avenida las Americas but it was spectacular. Across from the Tomebamba River, 6th floor with nothing above you but a gorgeous unused terrace where we spent lots of time enjoying views of mountains, town etc. We enjoy walking and had no problems getting anywhere. Buses are nearby and the taxi is also readily available and inexpensive. Grocery stores close by as well as good restaurants - do try Poe which is a short distance away on Ordoñez Lasso. We will definitely be returning to this property. Thank you to the owners for sharing!

Cuenca is surrounded by mountains, and transversed by 4 rivers. The largest river runs through the city separating the elevated old town from the newer part of town on the other side. On the steep banks of the river, houses are built on several levels. The Barranco, as it is called, is dramatic and historic. Large shady sidewalks line the river. Cuenca is a large enough city to entertain you, but with a small town feel. The historical area is large, still undergoing restoration. There are many museums, ruins, concerts, artists and artisans and most of it is free. The Caja National Park is a must see as well. There are many day trips you can take and numerous tour companies offer services.
