Unique artist's retreat with magnificent views of the bay & La Ropa Beach

Bedrooms 1
Space 700 sq ft
Property type bungalow
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

A palapa structure located on a large private hillside lot bay view.

Welcome to Alma de artista (soul of the artist)! Located on the hillside overlooking Playa La Ropa beach and the Zihuatanejo Bay, Alma de Artista is a delight for the senses. Surrounded by fragrant gardens, my home is a unique al fresco palapa structure encouraging harmony with nature. Neighbors are local hummingbirds and butterflies.

Nestled in the upper half of a large lot with only two neighboring houses the compound is secure and fenced for privacy. A turquoise infinity edge swimming pool is located steps from your bed and is shared with only one other unit.

The home is the summertime retreat of an ex-pat artist who draws inspiration from being with nature. Alma de Artista is perfect for artists and those looking to refresh their soul.

The space is constructed on two levels. The bedroom suite with king size bed faces the bay and the sky. Breakfast in bed will never be the same again. A tropical hardwood desk space and WiFi are available to connect with your friends and family.

Hidden under a pergola is an open air rain shower with river rock flooring. Adjacent is a private enclosed toilet. The vanity features a re-purposed African bowl used for the sink.

The lower level incorporates a large al fresco living area with guest nest perched over a natural rock. Kitchen amenities include a full size refrigerator, microwave, counter-top convection oven and hammered copper sink. All utensils, cookware and dishes are provided. Drinking water is delivered as needed. Daily housekeeping is included.

Ceiling fans, 20' ceilings and ocean breezes provide a comfortable environment. A washer and dryer are available for guests use. Linens and towels are included.

The owner lives at the far end of the land and is available for any questions you might have. No pets as the owner has a dog and cat on the property. Street parking is available. The entry stairway descends through tropical forest to arrive at my home. As you walk through the gate one first encounters an enclosed Zen garden leading down to the pool area and house. My home is not handicapped accessible as there are stairs.

One can walk to the beach which is about a 15 minute walk. Or via taxi which is available 24 hours a day.

Come experience the sensuous, romantic atmosphere of Alma de Artista. It will be an experience you won't soon forget.

About Michael Hackett

I am originally from the Midwest of the United States however lived many years in Melbourne, Australia where my family had moved to in the 1960's. My education has been in art and architecture, school at RMIT in Melbourne. I returned to the USA in the 70's moving to Boston and then to Philadelphia, eventually settling in Los Angeles, California. Through the years I have traveled through out Europe and the Middle East yet found my place of heart in Zihuatanejo.

Michael Hackett purchased this bungalow in 2008

Why Michael Hackett chose Cerro del Vigia

My heart responded to Zihuatanejo while traveling here with friends, staying at the Hotel Amuleto, which is a few steps away from my present house.

I was searching for a gentler simpler lifestyle away from corporate chaos and found the property in 2007. I designed the house as to my needs wanting nature and a tropical environment. Never have I regretted the decision to leave Los Angeles for this region of the world.

What makes this bungalow unique

The property located on a hillside above the beach was a great find for me. A friend and myself decided to purchase the land and design and build our homes. Essentially leaving most the land to the trees and natural rock formations.

I planned my house to incorporate as much of nature as could be done. It is a spectacular location overlooking the bay and beach and out to sea. I love watching ships and boats come and go. Local sea birds fly at eye level, hummingbirds, butterflies are generally in the garden every morning. The sounds of the tropics at night fascinate the senses and puts me at peace.

I have always fantasized of having healing place for others to come to and find peace as I have and this is why I am offering my home to you.

Risk of Falling Flower Petals

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a wonderful 12 nights! The "open to the ocean" concept is fabulous with its million dollar view. The ambiance is story book like. There was no issue with critters of any sort and the surroundings were quiet and peaceful. Butterflies, humming birds and Mexican Jays flitted amongst the surrounding trees and flowers as we relaxed in the adjoining infinity pool. The owner, Michael, welcomed us when we arrived and checked regularly to see if we needed anything. He lives a short ways down the hill. Ramon cleaned the pool every day and helped keep the surrounding grounds tidy. His cheerful demeanour was like having an extra hummingbird in the mix. Mary Lou provided cleaning and laundry services with a smile every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This accommodation is magical! However, be aware, there was always a risk of falling flower petals!

Open-air accommodation that was comfortable and unique. Extravagant camping. Lovely netted sleeping in the open air bedroom, perfectly adequate kitchen arrangement , several living areas and, of course the adjacent pool made for a magical extended week:

A lovely place with a stunning view.

  • 3 of 5

A unique open air experience for sure. The view is amazing and the flowers surrounding the suite are beautiful.

Michael is a great host - very accommodating and easy going.

The location however is not as quiet as we had expected. Loud music and noise comes up the hill throughout the day and night. It can be a bit challenging with the open concept and no way to shut the noise out. Otherwise a beautiful spot. A & G

Owner's Response: I am surprised at the comment regarding noise as nothing was said to me while you were here. The houses below in the area are not under my control and often at times are rented to people who come to party during the holidays. Generally it is quiet here.

Host Michael designed and created this retreat with all you will need and nothing more you will want. Vistas of harbour and ocean from open air spaces. Short walk to beaches and cheap cabs available as well. Y
