Welcome to our Kailua Beach House!

May 2017 NOTE: We have replaced the thin, slated windows ("jalosy" type) in the bedroom with a double-paned, insulated window (see photo). This has dramatically reduced "road noise" for the bedroom! Most of our guests have said that they had no concerns at night, but a few have commented on the noise from the street. We wanted to address this concern and make sure that the evenings are quiet for all of our sleepers!

Large 1-bedroom stand-alone “cottage”: This 600 sq ft unit has its own separate entrance (we live in a house behind the rental). There are no shared walls, and there is a fence between the rental and our house – you will have more privacy here that in other “attached” rentals. The bedroom is large (160 sq ft), and the living room, kitchen, & eating areas are super roomy. The roomy trade-off is that the bathroom is small (no tub – shower only).

Excellent Location! We are located less than 2 blocks down the road from Kailua Beach, and also just a few blocks to the main ‘Kailua Town’ with restaurants, shops, & stores – there is no need to drive to the beach, or to dinner. For those of you who know about Kailua and want to rent here, you will love our location! For those of you who have not stayed in Kailua before: Kailua is a small town (40,000 population) right across the island from Honolulu. The beach here is amazing – Google it! – it is about 2.5 miles long, with year-round gentle, warm, clear waters, and soft white sandy beaches. This is the town and beach where President Obama and his family stay over Christmas. It is an awesome tourist town for people who prefer to have a more relaxing, quieter Hawaiian vacation. But, if you want to hit the shopping and nightlife of Waikiki, it is only a 20-30 minute drive over to Honolulu.

Full kitchen! We have a full kitchen, including a dishwasher, Keurig coffee maker, microwave, place settings for 8, and all the usual kitchen utensils and tools. There is also a nice stainless steel propane BBQ outside for burgers, grilled fish, kabobs, or whatever you’d like. Most 1-bedroom rentals have only a hot plate and a sink, so this is a nice addition.

Parking: The unit has 1 off-street parking spot in front of the rental, so your car will not have to be on the side of the road.

Sleeping for 2-4: Very comfortable, new, pillow-top King Serta Perfect-Sleeper bed in the bedroom, with additional sleeping for 2 on the 2 fold-up portable twin mattresses (which are more appropriate for school-aged children than adults).

Bathroom with shower only (no bathtub), but freshly painted & updated. Includes hairdryer, and comfy plush towels.

Beach Stuff! We have 3 boogie boards, folding beach chairs, a small cooler, & several beach towels for our renters to use. If you want to try paddle boarding or kayaking (a must for Kailua vacationers!), then the best beachside rental place in town is right nearby.

WiFi and Cable TV: Yep, we have both at the unit.

Ambiance & General Info: Our rental is in a neighborhood, and we live on the property as well. THIS IS A NO-SMOKING PROPERTY. The nights are quiet, and since this is a residential neighborhood, it is not a place for loud gatherings or late parties.

Convenient and close to beaches and downtown. All conveniences were afforded.

Bonny was a great hostess. We stayed for 4 weeks and we were very comfortable throughout our stay. It was a perfect place for my daughter and me along with invited guests during our stay. Having a washer and dryer available is absolute bonus. Kitchen well stocked for cooking and large comfortable bedroom for sleeping. Bonny was very accommodating with favors asked as well. I will miss Kailua!

Perfect location for our visit with family

This home is as listed and reviewed by many. Clean, spacious for two people and with all of the amenities one could hope for. Keep in mind that the location is on a major road in Kailua. If you are super sensitive to street noise this may not be the best fit for you. HOWEVER the street noise does lessen after 8pm and doesn't begin again until 7-8 AM. We were quite content during our 7 night stay. We chose this home based on reviews but primarily due to the location: close to Kailua beach, Lanikai and our family in Kailua.

If you have any mobility issues please note that there is a step going towards the bathroom and the bedroom (which by the way is spacious). The king mattress wasn't too soft nor too firm and this review is by someone who has back issues.

Our hosts were prompt to repair a toilet within a few hours. Received a text message to let us know it had been repaired! Our welcome packet of coffee, nuts, and sweets was appreciated! Bonny and Rob gave us all of the privacy we desired and stepped in when requested. Perfect hosts in our books!

Perfect place with everything you need!

We loved our stay at Bonny and Rob's place in Kailua & cannot recommend it enough! The home has everything that you need for cooking, plenty of towels & supplies! It's in the perfect location in Kailua...about 2.5 blocks from Kailua beach, a short drive to Lanikai, and close to many places for food, groceries, and shopping.

Upon hearing that we were traveling with our 7mo old, Bonny and Rob supplied a pack n play for us for our daughter to sleep in which was awesome and so helpful to not have to bring one with us!

The laundry & BBQ were such a bonus for us!

Highly recommend & will be back again for sure!

Perfect apartment for vacation

We just returned from staying in this great apartment. We were visiting Oahu with our adult nephew for a family reunion so having a bedroom that was separate from the main living space was just what we needed. Our nephew opted to sleep on the couch, though the owners also offered us an air mattress. This was a good sized space: with a full kitchen and breakfast bar, a separate dining table and living room area. We were able to spread out when we were all there together. The location is walking distance from the beach and the main area of town, though we usually drove the few minutes into Kailua if we were buying groceries or going to the farmer's market. The owners have beach mats, boogie boards, a beach chair and cooler available - awesome for spending the day on the nearby Kailua beach. The bedroom has a/c which was appreciated as it was really humid during this visit, we turned it on at night which made for a comfortable sleep. The main space has louvered windows on 3 sides so you can get a good breeze going if you leave them open and it cools down markedly at night. The owners were immediately responsive when we called our first day and requested a second fan for the living room, which made all the difference cooling it off after we arrived. The windows had been shut and the interior temps were high, but once the windows were open and floor fan turned on all cooled off quickly. We also loved that there is a washer/dryer. We went on a few hikes and got more muddy than expected. While there is street noise in the morning as people go to work, during the day and at night it's pretty quiet. We would return and stay at this property again!
