Why Laura E Watrous chose Burnsville

Plenty of space...
Had a great stay with 5 kids and 4 adults. plenty of room for everyone.
Would stay again
Lovely stay. We had all we needed. This was VERY close to where our family reunion was, so very, very convenient. We were very happy to have Wi-Fi as cell phone coverage was spotty in the area.
Looks like there were some parts of the shower in the main bathroom that needed fixed. Bath worked, but shower did not. That did not hurt our stay though as there were other bathrooms. We would definitely go back!
Fantastic Historic Home
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this home. It is one of the most cozy and authentic homes we have ever stayed in. The history was on full display and you could imagine yourself back in time while sitting in the downstairs living room by the fire or upstairs in the bedrooms. The neighborhood is good for walking and convenient to downtown Burnsville (which was small but charming). If you are looking for a peaceful place to get away for a few days, check this out!
Nice spot very quiet
Enjoyed the different hiking paths and the over all story line of the property its self was interesting
Thanks for posting a review and especially for noting that you hiked around the property. With 37 acres, that's a highlight future potential guests might be interested in knowing. Thanks for having chosen Mountain Country Farmhouse! Laura
It was great
We enjoyed our stay immensely.
Liked the home!
Had lot of fun with our family members. House is filled with all cooking utensil and spices. Lot of books, play items for kids and hardwood for camp fire. Wasn't getting hot water when 3 persons take bath at same time..
While visiting the mountains of Western North Carolina you can stay as busy as you’d like…or not be busy at all. Either can be quite enjoyable Below, I note a few places and activities you may like to explore. All are an hour or less from your vacation home.
If you are coming to the mountains to SEE the mountains, then you MUST make a point to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway! Once on the Parkway, visiting Mt. Mitchell would be a must. Mt. Mitchell has the highest elevation (over 6000 ft) in the eastern half of the United States and simply a fun place to explore. http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/momi/main.php
If you visit Mt Mitchell, you may also enjoy a side trip to the Altapass Apple Orchard www.altapassorchard.org/ since it’s located off the Blue Ridge Parkway as well and not too far from Mt Mitchell. Peek at their website events calendar for daily special activities and entertainment (their ice cream is yummy).
This region of the country also has a long history of gem mining and there are a few places where guests can sift for gems on their own. Emerald Village includes a small museum, what’s left of a real mine and the opportunity to sift for gems
Burnsville is proud to be home to the Parkway Playhouse, true “Home Grown Theater”. The Parkway Playhouse has been entertaining Western North Carolina residents and visitors with live theater for over a century! Be sure to mention your interest in seeing a performance in your vacation home inquiry and we will likely be able to get you special ticket pricing with your booking!
Burnsville, and the immediate surrounding communities, is home to hundreds of talented and world renowned artist. Stop by TRAC (Toe River Arts Council) on Main Street in Downtown Burnsville to learn more about the artist OF this community, the type of art IN this community and the tours offered during the year to preview artist in their personal working studios. If art IS of interest to you, you might also be interested in visiting Penland School http://penland.org/about/description.html
RIVER RAFTING AND RIVER TUBING:
(2) Carolina Hemlocks - 6000 Hwy 80S, Burnsville, NC 28714
Carolina Hemlocks is a fun place to just go and hang out for the day too. It's a local / public destination so it can get crowded but they're on a piece of the South Toe River that is great for swimming (jumping off big rocks) and tubing. Tubes are available for rent there. Call 828-675-5509 for the pickup location. Cost is: $5/9am-6pm or $3/2pm-6pm.
(I've personally rafted with this company twice).
A hiking guide specific to this area is kept in this vacation homes which lists a number of hikes indicated by type (walking/biking/equestrian) as well as comfort level (easy/moderate/difficult). Each page provides easy, step by step driving directions from Burnsville. There are also a number of trails along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Crab Tree Falls is a favorite of locals as well as visiting guests. It’s a relatively easy hike and the water fall (once you reach it) is absolutely spectacular.
If you enjoy a good micro-brew, then you’ll be happy to know Western North Carolina is rapidly moving up the ranks in number of microbreweries here. There are microbrewery tours on foot and by trolley for the daring.
(2) The Biltmore Estate:
Asheville is home to the infamous Biltmore Estate, the largest private residence in America. I’m amazed at how far people travel to visit this architectural masterpiece and estate Touring the Biltmore house is only part of the adventure…check out their website for what else the Biltmore has to offer
Offers many unique shops and galleries (a visit to Woolworth Walk or Kress is worth it if shopping for artsy crafts in of any interest to you). Lots of great restaurants in Downtown Asheville as well.
