About the property

Sleeps 9+. 5 Bedrooms. 3 Baths.

Escape from the city and step back in time in this very tastefully redone, turn of the century mountain country farmhouse. Still owned by the original family, this home is surrounded by nearly 40 acres of private woods and pasture. Explore the woods or gather the family in the pasture for a ball game.

Mountain Country Farmhouse has been specifically designed to cater to and small. 3 bedrooms on the first floor comfortably accommodate 6 persons. Upstairs bedrooms has two more bedrooms for larger groups with an additional 2 bedrooms (2 beds per bedroom) plus a large bathroom.

This home is tastefully furnished with a blend of old and new. Most of the old has been in the home for years adding to it's homey character and charm. The new ties in nicely with the old and with all the modern renovations recently made to the home.

If we can't accommodate you here, we might be able to in one of the other vacation homes we manage. We'd love to assist you!

About Laura Watrous, Property Manager

Hello, my name is Laura Watrous. I am a real estate broker with Green Cove Properties in Burnsville, NC and manage a number of homes in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain region of Western North Carolina. At Green Cove Properties, we pride ourselves in providing the most dedicated and professional service available to owners, full time residential tenants and, most especially, vacationing guests. If this particular home does not meet your vacationing needs, please contact me as I may very likely have another rental that will.

Why Laura Watrous, Property Manager chose Burnsville

Mountain Country Farm caters to single families as well as multiple family gatherings. The layout of this home is comfy cozy for anywhere from 6 to 10 guests. Mountain Country Farm has been owned by the same family for over 100 years. This home has been fully renovated, decorated and equipped to offer guests the sense that they are favorite personal guests of the owners.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Sit it one of the rockers or on the porch swing of the front porch to simply sit back to enjoy the fresh country air and the quiet of the mountains or get out and explore the near 40 acres surrounding this old family farm. If your're looking to get out and 'take in' what this area has to offer, Mountain Country Farm is just 15 to 45 minutes from just about every activity Western North Carolina has to offer from Mount Mitchell and the Blue Ridge Parkway to the infamous Biltmore Estate in Asheville

Had lot of fun with our family members. House is filled with all cooking utensil and spices. Lot of books, play items for kids and hardwood for camp fire. Wasn't getting hot water when 3 persons take bath at same time..

Peaceful escape!

  • 5 of 5

The farmhouse is situated in the middle of Pisgah National Forest and perfect for anyone into hiking. It has plenty of room for a large family and was nicely remodeled from top to bottom. The modern updates did not take away at all from the old school charm. We evacuated due to Hurricane Irma and while other properties were raising their prices to take advantage of the situation, this one remained the same and even waived a fee for us. Overall the property was very clean and the beds were better than expected. Would stay again!

Isolated, quiet and restful

  • 5 of 5

We were blessed by our time at the Mountain Country Farmhouse. It was quite a ways out of town at the end of the "trail" but we loved the old farmhouse. We arrived during a thunderstorm and had an interesting "start" with an "anxious" 8 year old and couldn't find a flashlight or candles, but thankfully the power returned just as it got really dark. Otherwise, it was great. (You might want to make a good flashlight available!) The history of the old house is so interesting. Beds and bathrooms are much more comfortable than pictures show. Kitchen is well equipped. We even made a pie! Had to improvise a rolling pin and we bought a tin pan, but otherwise we had all we needed. There were eight of us and it was very comfortable. Saw deer and turkeys. Had good visit with friends on the porch. Just lovely. Thankful for our good time in NC mountains!

Really impressive family history within the walls of this home, congratulations to the family who decided to keep alive the legacy. Really inspiring, thanks you for allowing us in your home . Also great communication with Laura from the management company, a really helpful lady.

While visiting the mountains of Western North Carolina you can stay as busy as you’d like…or not be busy at all. Either can be quite enjoyable  Below, I note a few places and activities you may like to explore. All are an hour or less from your vacation home.

If you are coming to the mountains to SEE the mountains, then you MUST make a point to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway! Once on the Parkway, visiting Mt. Mitchell would be a must. Mt. Mitchell has the highest elevation (over 6000 ft) in the eastern half of the United States and simply a fun place to explore.

If you visit Mt Mitchell, you may also enjoy a side trip to the Altapass Apple Orchard since it’s located off the Blue Ridge Parkway as well and not too far from Mt Mitchell. Peek at their website events calendar for daily special activities and entertainment (their ice cream is yummy).

This region of the country also has a long history of gem mining and there are a few places where guests can sift for gems on their own. Emerald Village includes a small museum, what’s left of a real mine and the opportunity to sift for gems

Burnsville is proud to be home to the Parkway Playhouse, true “Home Grown Theater”. The Parkway Playhouse has been entertaining Western North Carolina residents and visitors with live theater for over a century! Be sure to mention your interest in seeing a performance in your vacation home inquiry and we will likely be able to get you special ticket pricing with your booking!

Burnsville, and the immediate surrounding communities, is home to hundreds of talented and world renowned artist. Stop by TRAC (Toe River Arts Council) on Main Street in Downtown Burnsville to learn more about the artist OF this community, the type of art IN this community and the tours offered during the year to preview artist in their personal working studios. If art IS of interest to you, you might also be interested in visiting Penland School

(2) Carolina Hemlocks - 6000 Hwy 80S, Burnsville, NC 28714

Carolina Hemlocks is a fun place to just go and hang out for the day too. It's a local / public destination so it can get crowded but they're on a piece of the South Toe River that is great for swimming (jumping off big rocks) and tubing. Tubes are available for rent there. Call 828-675-5509 for the pickup location. Cost is: $5/9am-6pm or $3/2pm-6pm.

(I've personally rafted with this company twice).

A hiking guide specific to this area is kept in this vacation homes which lists a number of hikes indicated by type (walking/biking/equestrian) as well as comfort level (easy/moderate/difficult). Each page provides easy, step by step driving directions from Burnsville. There are also a number of trails along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Crab Tree Falls is a favorite of locals as well as visiting guests. It’s a relatively easy hike and the water fall (once you reach it) is absolutely spectacular.

(1) Beer

If you enjoy a good micro-brew, then you’ll be happy to know Western North Carolina is rapidly moving up the ranks in number of microbreweries here. There are microbrewery tours on foot and by trolley for the daring.

(2) The Biltmore Estate:

Asheville is home to the infamous Biltmore Estate, the largest private residence in America. I’m amazed at how far people travel to visit this architectural masterpiece and estate  Touring the Biltmore house is only part of the adventure…check out their website for what else the Biltmore has to offer

Downtown Asheville:

Offers many unique shops and galleries (a visit to Woolworth Walk or Kress is worth it if shopping for artsy crafts in of any interest to you). Lots of great restaurants in Downtown Asheville as well.
