About the property

Charming 3 Bedroom, 3 Full Bath Home With Panoramic Lakefront Views

Welcome to Hobo Haven! Hobo Haven, our family-built home named after our beloved dog Hobo, is a charming log cabin located on two acres on Lake Gaston in Bracey, Virginia. Our three story, three bedroom, three bath home is a classic log cabin, featuring plank hard wood floors, wood beam ceilings, and, of course, beautiful hand-hewn log walls.

Our home boasts three covered and one uncovered decks, all with beautiful views of the lake. It also features a large screened-in porch, perfect for eating lunch on a warm summer day. These covered outside spaces allow you to enjoy the outdoors even in the case of bad weather. The fully equipped, open concept kitchen is ideal for preparing any meal, and features a dining room table with seating for ten, perfect for a lovely family dinner. Even on a cool autumn or winter day, cozy up next to one of two beautiful stone fireplaces, one located in the kitchen, the other in the second story family room area. Despite being a rustic log cabin, Hobo Haven still has standard modern luxuries we’ve come to expect, including three 32-inch and two 50-inch flat screen TVs, cable, telephone, air conditioning, and heat.

Bedroom/sleeping Details:

* Bedroom One- Master (Second Floor)—1 Queen bed, with access to outside covered deck and bathroom.

* Bedroom Two—(Third Floor Loft)—1 Queen bed, one twin bed

* Bedroom Three—(Third Floor)—1 Queen bed and 1 toddler bed with direct access to bathroom

* One queen pull out on second floor living space

* One high quality, queen, blowup mattress is included. There is plenty of floor space available, if you’d like to bring additional air mattresses.

* Convertible couch on bottom level that can be used as additional sleeping space for 2 adults

* Full couch on second floor living space

Public boat launch is minutes away, both driving and by water, at the Holly Grove Marina. With one boat and two Jet Ski lifts there is more than enough room for your boats to be secured and protected from the elements. A huge sun deck above the lifts provides amazing, panoramic water views and great sunning opportunities. Water depth off the dock is about 14 feet, plenty deep for diving, swimming, floating and fishing. Water depth at the steps going into the water is between 3-4 feet deep, making it easy for children and pets to get in and out of the water. Please keep in mind, this rental does not include a boat. Boat rentals are available on the lake.

About Gail Cox or Jennifer Thomas

I'm new to VRBO, but I'm excited for the opportunity to share the home that brings my family and me so much joy with you! I'm from Richmond, Virginia where I still live today. I have two adult daughters and am currently fostering a 5 year old child, which keeps me very busy!

Why Gail Cox or Jennifer Thomas chose Bracey

This home was built by my father who was in construction. My ex-husband and I, as well as other family members, also helped in building the home. My daughter also just had her wedding at our home, which was very special and fun for all of us. For these reasons, the home has a very special place in my heart. It's been a place where my family and I have made many happy memories, and where we'll continue to in years to come. It's a very relaxing retreat from my busy life, and I hope it will be for you as well.

What makes this house unique

What I love most about this home, aside from the sentimental aspects of it, is the unique log cabin style. It's not every day that you see a true log cabin, but this is it. I love the way the sun glistens off the wood and tin roof on a bright day. I love the vaulted, wood beam ceilings. I love the decks surrounding the house providing panoramic views of the water. I love the brick walkways that contribute to the rustic feel of the home. There's nothing that I enjoy more than sitting on the porch swing, drinking a cup of hot tea while looking out onto the peaceful lake.

Highly recommended

We had a great stay at this cabin. The lakefront is huge and jumping off the top of the dock was a highlight. We also enjoyed the very large screened porch for cards and puzzles. We will definitely be returning next year.

A charming, rustic, cabin well-suited for family time on the lake.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our much needed family vacation. The three bedrooms and two bunk beds worked well. The large screened-in porch was a great place for board games, darts and reading. The back porch had two great gliders and hammock chairs. The dock was a wonderful place for swimming, fishing and sitting. We will long treasure a special time in this special place.

Perfect getaway to getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We spent the weekend at Hobo and it was the perfect setting to turn off electronics and sit on one of the many decks and talk with family and friends. My dog was able to run around freely since the yard is fenced in. The boys went fishing for large mouth bass in the evenings. Hobo is nothing fancy, but comfortable and quiet. Do bring your own linens, wood for the fire pit, and food. There is a marina just down the street that you can purchase a few items if needed and to get some Hersey's hand dipped ice cream. We rented a boat from Poplar Marina for $265 a day which was great. We hope to come back again and stay a week!

A once in a lifetime home getaway

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful and an unforgettable stay. It was a short trip for all of us, but we couldn’t have had enough of it. The log cabin was cozy with the amount of space for our friends and their dogs. Most mornings we appreciated the view from the lake, although it was cold, but never hurts to bundle up for such a scenery. I was impressed with the variety of utensils, pots and pans the kitchen offered, since every meal we had someone was ready to cook. The owner offers linens for everyone to use, but we all brought our own to use which made it very easy to put away after leaving and not have to use their laundry or their linens. If it wasn’t for their fire pit outside, the swings/chairs, the corn hole game and the cute lighting, we would’ve never given it a chance to enjoy nature, this was our go to most evenings. Thank you again for allowing us to stay in your home. Hope to book again next year!

Beautiful in the Fall ~

  • 4 of 5

We loved meeting at the Hobo Haven for our family reunion--what a stunning setting! One of the best moments was waking up early and watching the fog drift from the lake, as geese flew into pink clouds of the sunrise...

Even if you rent in the fall or winter, still be sure to bring bug spray and arrive early to get your "lay of the land" by turning on lamps and gathering supplies for dinner. I would also not plan on a cook-out (as we did) because the grill is un-serviceable. Thankfully, we could still prepare our picnic meal inside.

Please note that windows cannot be opened (which does prevent spider-visitors) but as a result, folks with asthma might be a little uncomfortable, as the house can be a bit musty.

I suggest that you go ahead and pay the $50 for laundry fee--it's a lot to try and get all of the housekeeping details done on the morning of departure...

Rosemont Winery is just a short drive away, and this lakeside setting is truly beautiful~!
