Lots of Character to this place!

  • 4 of 5

The chalet is in a beautiful area near Boone, NC. The community is gated and very nice, with a lovely, scenic ride to the property. The roads are single lane in some areas, and a bit confusing to navigate, but not so bad once you figure out where you're going! The chalet itself is very interesting and quirky. I love the fact that it is built right next to a large boulder/rock wall and has a porch that wraps most of the way around the house. We did not stay in the property after arriving, however, because the housekeeper did not come before our arrival and the house was in need of some vacuuming, dusting and change of linens. We were very disappointed that we could not stay, but we contacted the homeowners concerning the cleanliness of the home. The owners were very kind and apologetic and refunded our payment, minus the service fee. VRBO refunded the service fee, so we were very satisfied with the customer service as well. We were sad not to get to stay here, again, the property is very "fun" and I know we would have enjoyed our stay had things worked out!

Beautiful, Newly Finished Cottage in a Gorgeous Setting!

  • 5 of 5

If you're considering staying in this cottage, I would highly recommend it! The cottage was recently upgraded with everything new and is so cozy. It is situated next to a massive rock formation, so it feels very private. After you pass the manned gate (which makes you feel safe), the drive is beautiful as it winds around a golf course and through nature. If it's a clear day, and you're feeling adventurous, take a drive up the mountain in Hound Ears for some beautiful long range views. It's a great place... you won't be disappointed!

Beautiful chalet in a charming community.

  • 4 of 5

We had a great experience spending the weekend at the chalet. We had everything we needed, and Carla was quick to respond to any issues we had, which were only minor. The chalet is very comfortable and feels like a home away from home. Beautiful surroundings, and so much to do only a short drive away. I would caution parents with very young children about the spiral staircase. We had no issues with a 4 year old, but with a toddler it could be dangerous. Overall this was a wonderful place to stay. I'm only rating it 4 stars instead of 5 because the washing machine didn't work (which Carla was not aware of but is now). Everything else worked great and the place is well-stocked. Can't wait to return sometime!

Great get away!

  • 4 of 5

This is a great house for a couple or small family. It's in a great location, close to Boone, Valle Crucis and Blowing Rock. Hound Ears is a wonderful gated neighborhood that is very quiet and lots of good walking streets and views of Grandfather Mountain. The house was just perfect for my husband, dog and I.

Christmas Vacation 2016

  • 3 of 5

As an older couple with a small dog, we were not excited about entering the property by way of the spiral staircase. Once inside, we found the washing machine and the dryer full with damp & smelly bedding and towels. The towels in the master bedroom smelled like they had also sat in the washer and/or dryer for a long period of time. The bed in the master bedroom needs to be replaced - woke up each morning with a sore back. Upon arriving we also found a foul odor coming from the kitchen sink and there was water backed up inside the empty dishwasher. The fireplace is positioned strangely in its' location. After several days we finally figured out how to use the additional heating (no instructions on the refrigerator). There were no steak knives nor was there any aluminum foil, plastic wrap or leftover containers. I guess we've been spoiled in the past at other vacation rentals in the Boone area. It always felt like you were either walking uphill or downhill inside. We were interrupted the day before our departure by the cleaning man as his instructions showed that we were to be leaving that morning! We assured him we had one more day. We were never informed that there was construction going on at the entrance to Hounds Ear which meant there was a Detour in and out of the community (which takes you about 20 minutes out of your way, just to get anywhere). The Guards were wonderful:-)
