Artfully Unique Marfa Adobe

Bedrooms 2
Space 102 m²
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

Fun adobe house located at the edge of town for up to 4 guests.

Located on the western edge of Marfa this fun place has everything you need for a comfy stay in Marfa. This nice, air conditioned and heated adobe house, with wifi, belongs to a private chef & art collector who carefully restored the adobe himself.

The house is wonderful for 2 -3 guests and sleeps up to 4 people.

1 Bedroom downstairs - Queen bed, sleeps two.

The bathroom is downstairs.

1 Loft bedroom upstairs - Full size bed, sleeps two.

There is a small sofa in the living room, but not best for sleeping unless you just have to escape that snoring husband/wife/friend/alien who happened into your bed!

Davis Mountain views from some parts of the property.

Courtyard with a unique, handmade, fun soaking tub. (This is a cowboy handmade tub, not a white shiny porcelain bath tub. It is located outdoors and will require you to dust it out, fill and drain the tub. It is an "ofuro" style tub with both hot and cold water. It is not a community hotel hot tub with seating for 20 people. Small, intimate tub, best for one calm, sane person.)

Concrete floors and fun art.

You’ll have the best of both Marfa’s: the town's events, restaurants, & music plus the magic of the high desert. While just a short distance from the center of downtown, you’ll be able to escape to spend the evenings stargazing in the back yard or courtyard, or ) On cool nights the back patio provides nice sunset views.

The train is an integral part of the town of Marfa. There would be no town of Marfa without it and you wouldn't have the privilege of visiting. You may hear it, you may not. This house is far quieter than most others in downtown Marfa and quieter than two of the four hotels in town.

The house is in a real, very safe Marfa neighborhood that has older and less manicured adobe homes, a cemetery at the end of the street and is "rustically" West Texas - not Beverly Hills.

Inside you’ll find:

WIFI, fully air conditioned for the hottest desert days, fully heated for those cold Marfa nights. Remote control air conditioning at your fingertips, one system upstairs, one system downstairs.

Full kitchen with gas convection range, microwave, concrete countertops, wooden butcher block and plenty of kitchen equipment.

Rain head shower inside full bath.

Lofty ceilings

1 bedroom downstairs with queen bed with comfy sheets and choice of down or fiber filled pillows.

1 Loft bedroom upstairs with a full sized bed with memory foam topper offering fun mountain views over the tops of the studios to the north. If there are extra guests for the upstairs, please take a look at the stair pics.

Dining room with hand-made dining table also doubles as a great artist space, studio with fine indirect morning light.

Well behaved pet and children owners may be discussed for approval.

Due to the recent city wide "burn ban", outdoor fires in the fireplace are prohibited at this time.

WIFI - There is wifi at the house.

About Terry Nowell

I bought an adobe ruin in Marfa in 1997 after locating the run-down shell of a house with the help of some friends. I've worked on it for quite a few years attempting to make it into a super comfy retreat at the edge of town in Marfa.

Terry Nowell purchased this house in 1997

Why Terry Nowell chose Marfa

This rustic adobe artist's space allows you to experience the real feel of West Texas in an extremely comfortable dwelling.

What makes this house unique

Nicely equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, very unique handmade house. We try to keep Big Bend coffee in the house for your use unless you are there for an extended stay.

The house is in a real, very safe Marfa neighborhood that has older and less manicured adobe homes, a cemetery at the end of the street and is "rustically" West Texas - not Beverly Hills.

Clean, beautiful, lots of character

  • 5 of 5

An amazing art filled home great for a Marfa visit. We especially loved discovering all of the little surprises that decorate the place. It is on the edge of town a short distance from the main drag. Getting around Marfa is quick as you are never far from anything so this worked fine for us. Great communication and instructions from the owner/manager to top everything off.

Owner's Response: Having Mason stay in Marfa, from an owner's perspective, was both trouble free and a pleasure. He responded to email communications without delay, he was kindly observant of the house guidelines during his visit and he left the house in great shape when departing. It would be a pleasure to have him visit again at any time.

This house is now our go-to place to stay in Marfa. We've stayed twice now, and will look for it first whenever we visit.

Lovely Marfa Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The owner, Terry, was responsive and wonderful to communicate with. The house has a rustic Marfa feel and lots of character - it's clearly been a labor of love and is in a great location on the edge of town. We especially enjoyed the very well-appointed kitchen since we were there for Thanksgiving. This is a cozy house with little privacy (no master bedroom door, etc.), so it's better for a couple, or 3 - 4 if privacy isn't important.
