Located at the apex of Hinton Ave in the vibrant and sought after neighborhood of Belmont, HighGround is the perfect landing place from which to take in all that Charlottesville has to offer. Highground has been thoughtfully renovated offering 2 spacious bedrooms; a comfortable living room with 51' plasma television, sound-bar, and available sleeper sofa; tranquil bathroom with great storage and rain shower; fully appointed, brand new kitchen with quartz counters, stainless appliances including gas range, and great light; and a generous dining room for those nights when you want to dine in. HighGround sits high on the hill on one of Belmont's flagship streets and is within sight of some of Charlottesville's most renowned local restaurants, including Mas Tapas, Tavola, and Lampo, The Local, and Junction (modern Mexican) among others. We are also just a short walk to the famous Downtown Pedestrian Mall with wonderful local boutiques; live music at The Jefferson Theater or Sprint Pavilion (Downtown Amphitheatre); theater, comedy, or opera at The Paramount Theater and live arts; Violet Crown Cinema, delicious dining options, gelato, and the Charlottesville Visitor Center. Many of Charlottesville's most popular attractions (Monticello/Ashlawn) are no more than 5 miles away. The wine culture here has gained national acclaim and tasting rooms at local wineries such as Veritas, Barboursville, Pollack, White Hall, Keswick, Jefferson, Glass House along with the burgeoning brewery tours of places like Blue Mountain Brewery, Three Notch'd, Devils Backbone, Champion, and Wild Wolf are within a 10-30 minutes drive and make for memorable day-trips. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, the Rivanna Trail (located in Belmont, about 5 minutes away) and the Blue Ridge Mountains are right down the road as well and are easily visited to take in the stunning vistas.

HighGround offers off-street parking for 2 cars and a level, fenced yard for backyard entertaining. A charcoal grill is available upon request. Air conditioning and wireless internet are included in your nightly rate as are local coffee, bottled water, and light refreshments. No pets, No smoking.

If you are traveling with children, we have many accessories available such as a highchair, pack and play, toys, books, etc. Feel free to leave yours at home and let us know what may make your visit more comfortable. A hair dryer, iron/ironing board, basic toiletries, and plenty of towels are all available for your stay. While several small, local markets (Market Street Market and Keevil & Keevil Grocery/Kitchen) are close by for basic kitchen essentials, we are happy to supply some basic grocery needs if desired for a small fee.

About Grier & Kevin Murphy

Having both attended the University of Virginia in the early 90's and after receiving degrees in English/French (Grier) and Architecture (Kevin), they decided to make Charlottesville their home and have lived in the Belmont neighborhood since 1999. Kevin (mostly) grew up in California and Northern Virginia and Grier in New Hampshire. Following college, Kevin took his architecture skills and put them to use working with a high-end builder at Wintergreen to be able to learn the building trade first hand. In 2004 he opened his own design-build firm and put the best of both worlds together creating a one-stop-shop for his clients where his designs then became his next building project. Clean, simple lines and a bend toward Danish-influenced style with an emphasis on unique applications using natural wood make up much of what Kevin is drawn to. Grier took a different path post-college and opened a small cafe on the Uva 'Corner' which she successfully grew to eventually include a second location on the Downtown Mall and a mobile food truck. After nearly 8 years, in 2004 she sold her restaurant and refocused her interests toward a career which focused on her love of houses: real estate. 13 years later, Grier is an Associate Broker at the local Charlottesville firm Nest helping buyers and sellers alike. Grier and Kevin live nearby and personally renovated the entire home prior to listing on VRBO. They also act as the property managers and oversee the booking, cleaning, and guest's unique needs.

What makes this bungalow unique

Some of the things that the owners love about HighGround include the gleaming natural light that filters throughout the house and the fact that while this home is only 1000 sq ft, it lives much larger. The spaces feel both intimate and separate from one another. As indicated by its name, HighGround has a wonderful presence at the high point on the street. The front porch is the perfect vantage point from which to take in the evening sunset and they love that in less than 10 minutes they can walk to some of the finest dining, best local parks, coffee shops, small food markets, great shopping, UVa, and some of Charlottesville's oldest landmarks.

Great location and wonderful home

Our cottage stay was characterized by really thoughtful touches--regional artwork, welcome treats including local coffee, and a spotless home. The location of this property is ideal--a short walk down a hill to Belmont restaurants and a brief jaunt to the historic downtown. The owner graciously "fixed" a problem that was our foolishness--we didn't realize our daughter unplugged the modem, and we couldn't figure out why the Internet wasn't working. Within 30 minutes, our "problem" was solved by the owner, and we were not made to feel like the idiots we are. I could go on and on, but one final joy--the church bells that ring out the time in the neighborhood. Great place to stay!

Cute cottage close to UVA and Monticello

Stayed here for few days with family. Great location to UVA, downtown area, and historical sites. Looks like an up and coming area with some nice restaurants in walking distance a block or two away. Also, able to walk to the downtown area (about 1.5 miles) here will find great shops and restaurants. Can walk to UVA but it is a bit longer (2+ miles). House itself was spacious and clean, nice kitchen if you like to cook (don't cook when I am on vacation!). Would recommend to a friend, and would stay again. Great first VRBO experience.

This was a perfect place to stay for a few days while we were enjoying the sights of Charlottesville. Griers instructions for the house were very clear and easy to follow. The house was nice and clean and comfortable. I would recommend this place to any one. Thanks for a great stay!

Bright, Beautiful, Comfortable, and Charming

We stayed at this house while touring Charlottesville wineries with college friends. It was perfect! It was indeed spotless, but so much more. The decor was charming. The furniture, beds, and linens were clean and comfortable. The location was a big reason for staying here, within easy walking distance of restaurants, coffee shops, and the downtown mall. We even walked to UVA one day. We'd certainly stay here again and would definitely recommend this property. Thank you!

Very clean and lovely home!

We had such a great time here. The location was perfect and very close to great restaurants and we even walked down to the pedestrian mall a couple times. I highly recommend this house. We will definitely stay here again next time we are in the area.

HighGround is located in the heart of Charlottesville's sought after and vibrant neighborhood of Belmont.
