Built in 1916, this fantastic house was owned by the Reed family. Sitting front and center on Beulah Reed Road -- named after the wife in the family -- you'll find the Reed family mentioned throughout Oregon. After deeding a sizable land grant which would become part of Oswald West State Park, the Hwy 101 bridge connecting the park to the highway on Neahkahnie mountain is named after the Reed family. Cousins were founding members of Reed College. The family was very involved with work involving the Portland Art Museum and were part of a thriving arts community in the Neahkahnie community.

This wonderful gem of a house was updated in 2014 to it's original glory with modern conveniences to take advantage of the stellar location -- wide swaths of windows to frame unparelled views; restorations of original finishes, new updated kitchen honoring the gracefulness of the house yet with all the modern conveniences you would want in a big cooks kitchen includig an island seating 4, a big great room with original stone fireplace, 180º views and dining area for 14, entertainment and media room, pool table room, ping pong area, beds and bathrooms galore, a third HD TV area and small library, Last but not least, enjoy the huge deck spanning the front of the house and along the side of the house covering a full lot. Nestled into the side yard is your own private fire pit to gather round and roast S'mores or quiet conversation around a fire with a glass of your favorite beverage.

Your master suite awaits with luxurious king bed, a private sitting room area overlooking the ocean and private cozy bathroom with high end Pratt & Larson tile and Waterworks fixtures, encased in marble floors featuring in floor heating.

Bedroom 2 on the second floor is also a king bedroom with generous walk-in closet. Bathroom 2 on the second floor features marble tile with in-floor heating, vintage tub and fixtures, and spacious storage.

Bedrooms 3 and 4 on the third floor are nestled under a high peaked celing, queen beds and ocean views. Bedroom 5 on the third floor features two built in queen beds tucked under the dormer eves and a big dormer ocean view window and window seat.

Bathrooms 3 and 4 are also on the third floor. Each tucked under the eves with high, sloping ceilings, these quaint bathrooms house a claw foot tub and big shower, respectively, and vintage fixtures. Heated marble floors round off the experience.

Bedrooms 6 and 7 are on the first floor and each house two sets of twin bunk beds suited for youth or adults, in addition to lots of storage. Bathroom 5 is also on the first floor with double sinks, luxurious Hansgrohe Rainshower, and heated floors.

Charm, comfort, modern conveniences, not to mention huge views and wonderful location. This house is perfect for large groups of up to 20 guests, or smallr, more intimate getaways. Check with us for more details regarding your woderful, relaxing coast vacation.

Wonderful Week
Our entire extended family (15) stayed at the Reed home this last week. House was well located next to the beach. Also, in easy driving distance to Tillamook (Ice Cream), Seaside, Cannon Beach and Astoria. Experienced multiple great hikes. Had some southern California hikers and they were impressed. Would recommend this property. Two of our group were architects and they were very interested in the redo of this historic home.

wonderful place for a big group
The house was fantastic - plenty of room for a big family group and all very comfortable. Pool, ping pong table, big room and screen for video watching, fire pit - all fantastic. Beach access amazing and star gazing on the big deck was excellent. Comfie areas to hang out and big dining table that fit everyone. My only issue was that after reading all the information and then signing a multi-page rental agreement, it was not until the day before our arrival that I received notice that we could only have 1 dog stay at the house. It was just lucky that the two other dogs that I thought were going to be with us stayed at home that weekend. Kind of late notice to impart that kind of information for a house advertised as "dog friendly." But other than the potential dog issue, it was a great weekend.

The photos don't do it justice!
This house pretty much has it all! Great layout and amenities- the open concept kitchen was so fun to cook in. The mix of vintage and modern is really fun. It was fantastic for a larger group and would even be good for corporate gatherings. The bunk rooms look perfect for kids but less so for an all adult crew (which we were). The neighborhood is lovely but it's a bit of a walk to town. And a hot tub would make it perfect! Highly recommend! But be on the look out for undisclosed fees from VRBO!

About the host

I'm Kim Bergstrom. My husband, Eric Bergstrom, have built on my father's dream of owning a beachfront house on the Oregon Coast. We now own three, and much to my husband's dismay we continue to grow. We purchased our family beach house from my father in 1996, and have thrived through sweat equity - most people think of us as rather crazy, but we've taken something we love to do and are making it our second chapter in life.

We enjoy taking properties with potential and great location, adding a facelift without removing the character, and introducing them to our expanding group of guests. Our latest endeavor is a turn of the century three story house which will sleep 20. We put a lot of thought and work into each house, and luckily have found guests who love the results. Like many of our guests we've come to know over the years, we hope you also come to think of this special house as your very own vacation home - without all the work!

Why they chose this property

This house was a true labor of love. Our regular construction guys gave us the side-eye and the big thumbs down. The work required was immense. Well, you'd be sagging too if you were 100 years old! Face lifts (lifting saggy beams), new plumbing and wiring, insulating where there once was none, saving all the old wood features from construction guys used to ripping out and throwing away.

The reward comes when the finish is buffed, polished, and ready for our guests. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience! We hope you enjoy - we've already had great feedback from our regular guests who have stopped by to take a look, and long time guests of the original owners, who have already booked their vacation. We hope you enjoy it, too!

What makes this property unique

Savor this rare opportunity to experience your next vacation at the Historic Reed House, one of the original turn-of-the-century cottages on Manzantia Beach. While the original charm remains, the Reed House has been updated with 21st century comforta
