Exciting modernist house
We had a great time staying in this amazing house. The lintel over the front door indicates it was built in 1776, but step inside and it’s uncompromisingly modernist – the glass staircase is particularly exciting, and it’s fun to shower in the middle of a big room. The house is very spacious, so the 6 of us were able to spread out. It is situated on the edge of the village, so very quiet, and with great views over the countryside. The “swimming pool” is 2 metres wide and 0.5 metres deep – so more of a paddling pool really – but it’s lovely cooling your feet in it in the shade of a fig tree. The house is not entirely practical – eg the late-afternoon sun reflects blindingly off the shiny floor – and not everything works (part of the fun was locating which light switches are functional, and resetting the fuses when cooking with more than one ring caused the electricity to off), but these were minor issues, easily rectified, and added to the sense of occasion. David was lovely, and immediately responded to all queries; he even went out and bought extra glasses and mugs when he realised there weren’t enough for all of us. We loved living here and would come again.
