About Tim and Carolyn Godfrey

I grew up in this area and my husband spent his high school years on his Grandmother's property in up state New York.

Tim and Carolyn Godfrey purchased this cabin in 1998

Why Tim and Carolyn Godfrey chose Oklahoma

When we saw this property we fell in love with it. I grew up in this area and all the woods and river reminded my husband of his Grandmother's place in New York

What makes this cabin unique

When we first viewed this property it was all grown up with brush, trees, no road, electricity, water, etc. but we knew it had great potential. After a lot of hard work and Gods blessings we have a beautiful home and a couple cabins to share with others. It's so beautiful here and private a great place to get away from every thing and enjoy the quiet and beauty of the woods and river.

The cabin was perfect! So private with an amazing porch and fire pit. Very comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

We are from Moore, OK. I was looking for something that was secluded, woodsy and by the water. Godfeys Rustic Cabins hit the nail on the head AND had wifi and close to town. The journey down the cliff to the rivers edge was a little more adventurous that i thought it was going to be but it was worth it. We had do much fun fishing and swimming. The river is much larger than we had anticipated but was very nice! The property was beautiful and Carolyn is so sweet! She stopped by to check on us the morning after we arrived and so graciously cleaned our cabin a little early for us. The cabin had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable. The bridge on highway 10 has a perfect little boat ramp to get our kayaks into Spring River and made a great starting point to kayak down the river back to the cabin. There is so much to do and see nearby. We will definitely be going back! It got our kids outside and off the electronics but we were able to watch a netflix movie one rainy morning. All the little touches made it a perfect stay, a wagon at the beginning of the trail to carry all of our stuff to the cabin, a roku with tv, wifi, outdoor lighting, lighted paths, dry wood after it rained for the fire pit, nice towels, dish soap, large gas grill with backup gas and cell phone reception...but we felt like we were on the middle of the deep woods! THIS IS THE BEST KEPT SECRET IN OKLAHOMA!! I am a nurse and my husband work for the post office, we have two boys that are growing up way to fast!! Thank You Godfreys for such a wonderful place to slow down and re-connect as family. I was able to completely relax here and that's saying a lot for the hectic day to day real life I have. We were really bummed to have to leave. Thanks for Everything!!

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for a few days. The cabin was better than described, comfortable, cozy and so welcoming. Everything was so clean and well furnished. The bed was pure heaven, haven't rested that well in forever. Wanted to stash it in my suit case and take it home. The grounds are well maintained. Just beautiful. Nice walking trail. The river was breathtaking. Explored Miami and the surrounding area, everyone was very friendly. Made the short drive to Joplin, nice town with pleanty of places to eat and do some shopping. Even the rain couldn't dampen my spirits...so peaceful and relaxing sitting on the covered front porch enjoying the beauty. Definitely loved my stay here, if you get a chance to spend some time here...Do It! Thank you for sharing your property, will be back.

Owner's Response: Paula, thank you so much for your outstanding review. I was concerned about the rain spoiling your visit but happy you discovered that Joplin is just a short drive from our cabins with lots of restaurants and shopping sites. Thank you for all the nice comments about our cabins and the grounds. Keeping things looking good for our guests is a full-time job but really is rewarding when we get great reviews such as yours and we appreciate it. Tim and Carolyn

Great place to hang out

  • 4 of 5

Very clean, great little place, the Hosts we're so kind and you can tell they care about your stay. We had no problems so we didn't need to contact them during our stay.

Not easy fishing at the resort. You have a steep walk to the water. We put our boat in at a nearby boat ramp. Not easy to get a boat parked at the resort so I recommend parking it somewhere else. We went to near by casino and theater, so there are other things than fishing.

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxing experience at the cabin. We had everything we needed when we arrived. We had a great fishing experience as well. We caught 6 mississippi whites that were 2-3 lbs each. Everything was perfect!

Owner's Response: Thank you Cynthia and Daniel for taking the time to give us a review. Tim and I are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at our cabins and glad that you caught some fish while you were here. We apologize that the path to the covered deck was messed up somewhat because of the large amount of rain we have had this spring. We've been able to cover the path with a new layer of mulch and it's in good shape now. Thank you again and hope you come back to see us soon. We are one day away from completing our 3rd cabin and we are so elated to be finished!!!!!! Tim and Carolyn

Friendly and beautiful country getaway

  • 5 of 5

Carolyn was able to fit us in on a weekday visit after Christmas but before New Years and she responded back very quickly to our questions and request. The owners gave very good directions and the place was easy to find even though it is off the beaten path (just the way we like it). We really appreciate the owners (who live on site) giving us privacy so we could enjoy our couple time together.

The property has a lot of nice well thought out touches by the owners. For instance, a pull wagon to take your items to the cabin from the drive up the well maintained path; the side table next to the grill so you can prep your meals; a large fire ring with lots of seating and a well supplied kitchen. Especially liked the deck size and the glider furniture on the deck and if it hadn't been so chilly we would have done a fire too.

The Queen bed was very comfy and the linens very fresh and clean. The entire cabin was very clean which really is hard to do when the country means leaves, dirt and bugs. The interior of the cabin is very large and roomy so if you plan on sleeping 4, I think that would be easy to do. The heater worked well and was relatively quiet.

The path down to the water view is a bit steep but is well maintained. Anyone in reasonable health should be able to make it down there to the viewing platform which gives a great view of the river. We heard the owls hooting on the other side and the place is overall very peaceful and quiet.

BTW be sure to pack groceries, especially good stuff for their gas grill! The kitchen is well stocked with equipment but you will need actual food especially if you don't want to go back into town. However, pots, pans, silverware, glassware and even marshmallow toasting forks are provided!

Grand Lake is near by. Miami has some antiquing and the Casino. We personally headed up to Joplin (about 30 minutes away) to go antiquing and spend the day. It would be a good stopover if you are headed further up to Springfield MO or down to Tulsa OK.
