Up North Oasis for Families and Fishermen, Trader's Bay, Leech Lake

Bedrooms 4
Space 2,364 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

4 bedrooms, 2 Bath with Expansive Level Lakefront and large wooded lot

Our lake home is an open-living concept home that was completely remodeled in 2007 with quality in mind. The open concept area features beautiful cathedral ceilings, a massive real stone fireplace, a large dining area with an 8 foot log table , and a fully stocked gourmet kitchen with granite counter tops. The living room area seats a large group comfortably with a sectional, oversized chair, and a log futon sofa. This area can be used for additional sleeping space, if needed. There is a large flat-screen tv in this room also.

The rest of the house contains the four bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a laundry room, and a second living room.

Up a short carpeted flight of stairs are three bedrooms. They all have Wildlife themes and hand-crafted log furniture.. Two bedrooms have French doors that open up to a large lakeside screen porch. The third bedroom looks out over the heavily wooded backyard.

The three upstairs bedrooms share a bathroom that has a large vanity with two sinks and many drawers and cupboards to stash your toiletries. It also has a deep, jetted tub/shower.

The downstairs bedroom has a large, 3/4 bath across the hall.

The laundry room is fully equipped with a new HE washer/dryer, utility sink, and all the supplies you will need for your stay.

The downstairs family room has two sofas, with one being a double hide-a-bed, providing additional sleeping spaces, if needed. This room has a flat screen television, gaming station , a children's play area, and a work station with an all-in-one printer. (Yes, some people have to work even when they are on vacation!) This room has a no-step exit out to the lakefront.

We have patios on both sides of the house and ample furniture to accommodate large groups. We provide a gas grill with propane for your use also. And, down by the lake, we have a fire pit for the daytime hot dog roast or the evening campfires.

We also have a Boathouse that has been converted to a rec room. It has a ping pong table, foosball table, music system, sandbox toys for the little ones, and lawn games. The boathouse is a great place for the guests who like to burn off a little energy or just want some separate space.

Our property has a 60 foot long dock and a 3000 pound capacity boat lift with electric assist to make getting out on the lake a breeze. The dock has electricity available for charging boat batteries. The swimming area is accessed from the dock, because the shoreline is rocky. The water level where the sand bottom begins is about a foot and a half. At the end of the dock, it is 4 feet deep. We have put in a small beach area in front of the boat house for little ones to have fun in the sand. We have a canoe, paddle boat, and two 10 foot kayaks available for guest use. The kayaks are stored in the boat house along with a number of life jackets. (Infant, children, and adult sizes)

On the west side of the property, we have a screened, lighted fish-cleaning building with a large stainless steel table to make fish cleaning convenient and bug-free. There are outlets for electric filet knives and a garden hose attachment for easy clean up. A bundle of wood for campfires will be found in here. There are also two bikes for use by our guests.

Also, our long circular driveway gives the property lots of space for parking cars and boat trailers. Our property is quite spacious so everyone can have privacy to getaway and relax.

About Terry Gardner

We have lived in southern Minnesota, farm country, for most of our married life. We have four children, all grown, with whom we shared our love of the great outdoors on many summer vacations. It seems we gravitated a lot to the north woods to hike, bike, and fish over the years.

Terry Gardner purchased this house in 2014

Why Terry Gardner chose Walker

We bought our lake place on Leech to continue enjoying the great outdoors without roughing it. We like having all the amenities of a year round home. It makes relaxing and having an Up North getaway really easy. Also, we chose this property because it lends itself well to multi-generational groups and is located perfectly to access the best fishing spots on Leech Lake. And, with Walker being such an active vacation spot, their is always lots of things to do when the weather or fishing doesn't cooperate.

What makes this house unique

This property has all the comforts of home with untouched nature just outside the door. The two-acre, heavily-wooded lot lets you have lots of privacy too. It is truly an oak wood retreat, hence the name we gave it,

Owner's Response: We are happy to hear that your stay went well and you would come back again. Winter is a great time at the Lake for outdoor sports. And some indoor entertainment like X-boxes, movies, and games can help keep people happy indoors too. We like to think we have something for everyone to have fun.

Wonderful Lakeside home and Great R&R !

  • 5 of 5

My two fishing buddies and I pick a spot to go for an annual R&R for relaxing, fishing and sampling craft breweries. Terry and John's house is a beautiful home with the log cabin theme throughout. The backyard is lakefront with only a large lawn between the back door and their dock. Each evening we spent time out on the back patio for dinner and then moved down to the open fire pit to enjoy the sunset, listen to the wind in the trees and the waves lapping on the shore... very therapeutic indeed. The two bedrooms upstairs open up to a screened in porch which allowed me to sleep with the bedroom door open and again enjoy the wonderful sounds of nature without having any bugs. The house has all the modern conveniences and was very clean. They really made you feel like you are going into your own home as there were small things like a full cabinet of spices, all the utensils that you'd need and the showers all had bottles of shampoos and conditioners. They also made available to us their kayaks which I took out onto the lake and a bicycle that I wrote around the neighborhood once. They had plenty of board games, bean bag toss and ping-pong available, but I couldn't get my two amigos to put down their beers and fishing poles out on the dock long enough to play any of those games. All in all it was a delightful experience, very homey, and relaxing. We were very pleased with our stay and would recommend it to anyone. Cheers Steve

The property was clean and equipped with all your needs. Very spacious and the view was amazing.

We had such an amazing time with our whole family. All our needs were above and beyond met, and then some. They really thought of everything. Terry and John were so wonderful to work with and you could tell they wanted us to have a great experience . And we did!!! The cabin was beautiful , the view was amazing . The kids were catching fish like crazy off the dock and it was so easy for the kids to swim right there. There was always something to do with the games they supplied and the amenities they had for us. We wish we could stay there more often. We just loved the place and hope to go back next year. Thanks so much for everything!!

Ben and Carrie and all the family :)

Perfect for families of all ages, relaxing & quiet

  • 5 of 5

We had a fun & relaxing week, and this house is set up with everything we needed to be very comfortable for our 2 week vacation. We had twin infants and a 5 year old, and there was lots for them to all do, and everything we needed for kids (2 pack & plays, hi chairs, toys, books, movies, sandbox toys, and life jackets for everyone). Family with kids 5yo to 12yo visited & enjoyed the fire pit, game room & cornhole. The baby/kid items are all stored in 2 closets, so would not be obnoxious for an adult vacation. Terry was immediately available by phone to answer a question, and local/house info was posted in ideal spots at the house and made use of their appliances easy. The screened in deck off 2 of the upstairs bedrooms was a favorite relaxing spot for everyone in our group, and it was lovely to hear the wind through the big oak trees and waves on the beach while relaxing in the comfortable chairs. The kitchen was well stocked and layed out, and we really enjoyed having 2 separate living room spaces. The table was large enough to fit 6 adults & 4 kids around for a family meal. It's hard to imagine anything that would make this home more ideal for a vacation getaway, and we'd love to come back! Thank you, Gardners, for sharing your lake house with us!

Our lake home sits on one of the prime fishing bays of Leech Lake, Trader's Bay. We are conveniently located near many resorts which carry groceries, bait, and gas. They also have boats available to rent.

For those who don't fish, or are looking for other entertainment options, the town of Walker has much to offer. There are lots of fun specialty gift stores, boutiques, coffee shops, and artists malls. They have many good restaurant choices for budget minded people to those looking for fine dining. Most of the area towns have a full schedule of activities throughout the summer.
