Overview

About the property

4 bedrooms, 2 Bath with Expansive Level Lakefront and large wooded lot

Our lake home is an open-living concept home that was completely remodeled in 2007 with quality in mind. The open concept area features beautiful cathedral ceilings, a massive real stone fireplace, a large dining area with an 8 foot log table , and a fully stocked gourmet kitchen with granite counter tops. The living room area seats a large group comfortably with a sectional, oversized chair, and a log futon sofa. This area can be used for additional sleeping space, if needed. There is a large flat-screen tv in this room also.

The rest of the house contains the four bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a laundry room, and a second living room.

Up a short carpeted flight of stairs are three bedrooms. They all have Wildlife themes and hand-crafted log furniture.. Two bedrooms have French doors that open up to a large lakeside screen porch. The third bedroom looks out over the heavily wooded backyard.

The three upstairs bedrooms share a bathroom that has a large vanity with two sinks and many drawers and cupboards to stash your toiletries. It also has a deep, jetted tub/shower.

The downstairs bedroom has a large, 3/4 bath across the hall.

The laundry room is fully equipped with a new HE washer/dryer, utility sink, and all the supplies you will need for your stay.

The downstairs family room has two sofas, with one being a double hide-a-bed, providing additional sleeping spaces, if needed. This room has a flat screen television, gaming station , a children's play area, and a work station with an all-in-one printer. (Yes, some people have to work even when they are on vacation!) This room has a no-step exit out to the lakefront.

We have patios on both sides of the house and ample furniture to accommodate large groups. We provide a gas grill with propane for your use also. And, down by the lake, we have a fire pit for the daytime hot dog roast or the evening campfires.

We also have a Boathouse that has been converted to a rec room. It has a ping pong table, foosball table, music system, sandbox toys for the little ones, and lawn games. The boathouse is a great place for the guests who like to burn off a little energy or just want some separate space.

Our property has a 60 foot long dock and a 3000 pound capacity boat lift with electric assist to make getting out on the lake a breeze. The dock has electricity available for charging boat batteries. The swimming area is accessed from the dock, because the shoreline is rocky. The water level where the sand bottom begins is about a foot and a half. At the end of the dock, it is 4 feet deep. We have put in a small beach area in front of the boat house for little ones to have fun in the sand. We have a canoe, paddle boat, and two 10 foot kayaks available for guest use. The kayaks are stored in the boat house along with a number of life jackets. (Infant, children, and adult sizes)

On the west side of the property, we have a screened, lighted fish-cleaning building with a large stainless steel table to make fish cleaning convenient and bug-free. There are outlets for electric filet knives and a garden hose attachment for easy clean up. A bundle of wood for campfires will be found in here. There are also two bikes for use by our guests.

Also, our long circular driveway gives the property lots of space for parking cars and boat trailers. Our property is quite spacious so everyone can have privacy to getaway and relax.

About Terry Gardner

We have lived in southern Minnesota, farm country, for most of our married life. We have four children, all grown, with whom we shared our love of the great outdoors on many summer vacations. It seems we gravitated a lot to the north woods to hike, bike, and fish over the years.

Terry Gardner purchased this house in 2014

Why Terry Gardner chose Walker

We bought our lake place on Leech to continue enjoying the great outdoors without roughing it. We like having all the amenities of a year round home. It makes relaxing and having an Up North getaway really easy. Also, we chose this property because it lends itself well to multi-generational groups and is located perfectly to access the best fishing spots on Leech Lake. And, with Walker being such an active vacation spot, their is always lots of things to do when the weather or fishing doesn't cooperate.

What makes this house unique

This property has all the comforts of home with untouched nature just outside the door. The two-acre, heavily-wooded lot lets you have lots of privacy too. It is truly an oak wood retreat, hence the name we gave it,

This cabin is so beautiful. We had 4 adulta and 6 Kids and we had more then enough space for us all. The boys were excited to see an Xbox there! Would go back again.

Owner's Response: We are happy to hear that your stay went well and you would come back again. Winter is a great time at the Lake for outdoor sports. And some indoor entertainment like X-boxes, movies, and games can help keep people happy indoors too. We like to think we have something for everyone to have fun.

Would go back in a heartbeat. Had everything we needed for 2 families of 4. Kids had plenty to do to stay busy and active.

Owner's Response: Thanks Deb! We'd love to have you back anytime. Since you left, we added some comfy Adirondack chairs around the fire pit and are working on plans to give the fire pit a major upgrade. We want a better space for family time around the campfire,

Great Memories Made

  • 5 of 5

You really should spend the entire summer up here so you could enjoy all the great amenities this place has to offer.

My family and I have stayed at multiple places up in this northern region and this place by far has surpassed all that we have required. We liked it so much we have decided to stay here next year.

All the things you would expect from an upper class rental, as this, are definitely here, but here are some things that we found so enjoyable. Beautiful trees, ample places to park, space for a trailer, electric boat lift, awesome fish cleaning house, many comfortable outside chairs with cushions, a solidly built house that is very quiet when a lot of noise is going on, beautiful views from the large windows facing the lake and flat grass areas between the house and water to enjoy all the activities.

We have stayed on many parts of Leech Lake, but Traders Bay where the house is located is an ideal location. It is protected by the north winds, it has great sunrises, neighbors to help out with ice, bait or fuel, short boat rides to walleye hot spots, and a nice boat ride that includes cruising Agency Bay, Walker Bay the Narrows and back into Traders Bay. Terry and John have really done a super job in making this place a wonderful place for their guests. I would suspect that this would be awesome in the winter also.

You Can definitely relax and unwind in this Up North Oasis.

Owner's Response: Thank you for all the great details you put on this review. We agree with you that our location on Leech Lake is a real plus. And we too love that the house can accommodate a lot of commotion and still have quiet places for naps, book reading, and early to bed people. We are excited you are coming back again next summer. And, since you mentioned it, winter at Oakwood Retreat is wonderful!!

The property was everything we expected and more!

  • 4 of 5

There were a lot of things for everyone to do and especially for the kids they loved the game room! The house was furnished with everything we needed. Would have liked to have had some recycling bins available, but besides that everything was amazing we had a great time!

Owner's Response: So glad you had a great time and our property worked well for your family. We have wrestled with what to do about recycling options for our guests because City Sanitary does not provide a recycling service. Recyclables need to be taken in to town to the county recycling site. We give that information to our guests and encourage them to recycle if they can.

Beautiful lake front home.

  • 4 of 5

Absolutely loved our week here with family and friends. We enjoyed all the water sports provided and the big back yard was always being utilized by games, fun and laughter. Evenings were spent around the campfire and indoors playing board games. Even sampled the crawfish boil! We went into Walker for some crazy days shopping and BBQ. ALL OF IT FABULOUS!! Oh, except for losing $$ at the casino.

Owner's Response: Your crayfish boil was a new one for us. We usually have a walleye and northern fish fry. We will have to give that a try. So glad your stay was an enjoyable one.

Everything We Hoped for and More!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for a better property for our 4 families to share time together over the 4th of July! In all, we had 8 adults and 5 kids under the age of six and we had more than enough room to each have our own private spaces while also enjoying one another's company in the large family room in the evening or the huge dining table to share our meals. This property is beautiful both inside and out. John and Terry have truly thought of everything to make for an awesome/relaxing vacation. Not only was the property itself great, but John and Terry were always prompt with their responses to any questions we had. Would highly recommend for any family or families big or small!

Our lake home sits on one of the prime fishing bays of Leech Lake, Trader's Bay. We are conveniently located near many resorts which carry groceries, bait, and gas. They also have boats available to rent.

For those who don't fish, or are looking for other entertainment options, the town of Walker has much to offer. There are lots of fun specialty gift stores, boutiques, coffee shops, and artists malls. They have many good restaurant choices for budget minded people to those looking for fine dining. Most of the area towns have a full schedule of activities throughout the summer.
